polgara
My Oscar always seems hungry, so I am always giving him something to eat, well four to five times a day. He has a nice round tummy, and has grown heaps since we have had him. How much is to much???
Matthew
i was always taught that you can't overfeed fish, but you can overfeed aquariums. if there is no waste from each of the feedings, apart from the obvious oscar eating habits, and you keep your water changes up i see no limit to the amount of feedings. obviously budget plays a part, so base your decision on what is best for the both of you, if five feedings doesn't hurt your pocket then go for it. Ira
You know, if you stop feeding them every time you walk past the tank they eventually stop begging to be fed every time you walk past the tank. Mine usually only start begging about half an hour before dinner time.
TerminalAddict
mine start begging at 10pm ish
Warren
Mine beg all the time even though they only get fed once a day. Obviously some fish just don't or won't learn. Is it possible fish can actually hope?

Joze
mine are only really hungry when they start trying to jump to the dry food can sitting on, otherwise they are like a cat and a fridge, ie try to look hungry everytime you go near their tank. I hand feed all the big fish once a day, it allows several things, lets me inspect each one individually, lets the smaller fish, (yup I keep small cichlids in with the oscars)get a feed in peace. I keep adult firemouths and severums in the tank from time to time to stop them from breeding. It also seems to to stop the female gold severums from getting beaten up by the single female green as they are so busy schooling to think about pairing up. The oscars are reasonably peaceful and I add freshwater shrimp in the tank every now and then for some extra interest.
Doc Holiday
One good feed once a day should be plenty. It depends on the others cleaning up behind the oscar. I feed my oscars an extra feed the other day and he had eaten too much that he ended up sinking to the bottom for a couple of hours. But if they are happy and youv'e got the time to feed them that often then I don't see why not
herefishiefishie
just remember in the wild they can only eat when they catch something, so sometimes they dont eat for a few days. 1 or 2 feeds a day is heaps. Cichlids will eat all day if you let them, just like cats,humans...... You will find feeding them that often will polute your water alot quicker, and like over feeding any animal , health problems could occur.
