smidey
Hi all, is it possible to over filtrate the water? I have added a Aqua One canister CF1000 which is rated at 1000L/Hr & am still running the factory hood filter which is rated at 900L/Hr. So a total of 1900L/Hr in a 200L tank, almost 10 times an hour! I guess this is good, anyone had bad experiences with this? Smidey
fishy_t
I think it is if you want to grow plants as they like to absorb some of the nitrogen before the filter converts it all - but as far as fish are concerned - the cleaner the water the better! (not 100% on the plants thing though - just something I herd a few years ago!)
Caryl
No such thing as too much filtration but there can be too much water movement and current depending on the type of fish.
smidey
Thanks Fishy t & Caryl, i have mainly caboomba plants which are flimsey so I did have to reduce the current so they could stand up right.
sharn
ive seen tanks running nearly 20x per hour with no problems. as long as your fish and plants arent straining to swim or stay rooted then it shouldnt be a prob.
Freakyfish
I think you will find that your filters will not remove nitrogen as its stays in its form as Nitrate Its from here the plants will absorb it My heavily planted display tank never reads Nitrate simply frm the plants Discus love it As said above the main problems will be to much currant but this all depends on the inhabitants Brad
alanmin4304
It is only water movement that could be the problem as cabomba does not like water movement.
SpidersWeb
Our two main tanks are around 200L and we have Jebo 819's in both, plus internals. One tank has 2400L/hr circulation which has our oscar in it, and the other planted tank has 2000L/hr.
