  1. Thanks Amazonian For those of us that cannot get to the " meeting" can you please explain how the system works. How do you harvest the hatched shrimps etc.
  2. Thanks Johannes for posting the pics for me.
  3. I was there a few weeks before it opened and had just got back to Oman where I am working when it caught fire. It destroyed the reception area but they hoped it would not delay the opening. I have some quite dramatic pics but do not know how to attach. I can email if someone can put them up.
  4. Tell us more about this Mt Somers sand Spoon How does one get some?
  5. Make a little "wall" out of putty or something around the area of the hole to allow you to fill it with water while you are drilling.
  6. Better to have the hole too big as there is plenty of tolerance in the fitting flange.
  7. Have a look in the phone book for Binn Inn in ChCh. There are several outlets
  8. Got a call to come and assist with an extension to the terminal at Muscat airport for six months. That was in Jan - have now booked my return in Dec. At least the weather should be warmer in ChCh by then. Would be a bit of a shock coming from high 40s to snow.
  9. Whats your excuse for being up so early Alanmin. I am in Oman 8hrs behind you its still Thurs here

    RCD power point's

Have a look at Jasmines posting "so upset" This is what can happen with RCDs etc.
  11. You will probably get a better sine wave out of a cheap generator than you will out of a cheap inverter. Remember with an inverter you will need a charged battery - something else to maintain. Batteries go flat quicker than petrol.

I believe you need to weigh up the safety side with the other risks such as nuisance tripping. If you have a tidy set up and use common sense your tank should not pose an electrical hazard.
  13. Get your sparky to allow you to have more than one level of light. This will give you some flexibilty with lighting levels, colours etc. Instal wiring for two or three or more tubes with seperate switching options. Do it while you can!!
  14. Oh I forgot to mention petrol is 39 cents per litre in Muscat - thats pretty exciting
  15. I am in Muscat city in Oman. Try Googling it you may be surprised as I was just how westernised and modern the country is. I received a call late last year to come here for 6 mths and assist with a building project at the airport. That has turned into 10mths but I will be back for Xmas. Was in the final stages of setting up my tanks when the call came so had to mothball them. There are a few aquarium shops here with mostly fresh water species. Cheers
  16. Sorry to hear about all the non exciting stuff happening. Will it make you feel any better if I tell you about my evening out for a wonderful meal at a very fancy hotel in Muscat, Sultanate of Oman. It is 9.35pm and the temperature is a comfortable 40 deg. It is approaching the middle of summer here and can get up to 50 deg some days. I watch the forum each day and can't wait to get home at the end of the year and finish my 800l cold water marine set up. Keep smiling summer is coming soon. Cheers Warren
  17. I bought a DeLonge wet and dry Vac off T/M before I even filled my latest tank - cost a $1 and goes great. Best investment so far.

    Super Selco

Thanks for that Hans. I am sorry if I sounded a bit bolshy in my second post but I could not believe there was nobody out there that had not used Selco to gut load their brine shrimp or use it to raise adult shrimp. It would appear from the response that it is not on the market in NZ. Do members use other methods to enrich brine shrimp or do they not bother?

    Super Selco

Is there nobody out there who can answer this question. I assumed many members would have heard of this product. I look forward to some sort of reply!!!!!

Hi Is this product available in NZ? Thanks
  21. Leave for a 7 mth work stint on 21 Jan. Anyone been there, can give me any pointers. I know it will be hot, especially at the end of my contract in July ie up to 50 deg. I am told there is some really good diving there also. Will be working with three other Kiwis that I have worked with previously.
  22. You will need water soluble grinding paste. I had to ring around a bit to find some. Most of it is oil based and will not work as well.
  23. I use a piece of the plastic sheet from a tank divider. The holes are very small but I have a large area in my overflow to carry the flow. It sits on top of a trickle filter so also helps spread the flow thru the filter.
  24. I have plenty of that white plastic grating that is used on light fittings. It is approx 10mm thick and the square holes are about 10mm. You are welcome to some of that if it suits. PM me.
