  1. Lol, small fish with big attitude, gotta love it
  2. Some fish can change their colour to match their surroundings. I think most fish if not all of them go pale when they are stressed or unhappy with their environment. That is why fish in pet shops often look drab and pale. Could also be that they are just having a bad day too i spose. Make sure your tank parameters are close to what they require and that there is nothing in there that would pick on them and im sure they'll be fine. Hope this helped a little. PR
  3. So whats their favourite food? Maybe if i give them enough of it my two males might find a way to get it on together? Lol.
  4. I think this is an imposter! The REAL Billaney would never post about new babies and not provide pictures. Take off your mask imposter man! LOL, congrats btw.
  5. Alan, the tank their in probably isnt ideal but its all that was empty. Theyre in roughly 30x18cm tank, with about 12cm depth of water. Temp is around 27-28 degrees. Dont have a sponge filter spare atm, so they have just an air stone and i've been doing small water changes. Top is sealed with a plastic wrap cover. Theyre definately in there (or something is anyway), they just dont seem to be growing
  6. In that case i might put some bbs in to hatch tomorrow, my fry are way behind the 8-ball.
  7. I think theyre about 4 weeks now.
  8. No, they're on microworms at the moment. I know they're slow growers, but just figured they should be bigger than they are by now. Actually, theyre about the same size as bbs!
  9. Ah ok, thats interesting. Just wondering if the slow growth rate of our betta fry has anything to do with them not having a proper light on top of the tank..
  10. How much effect does light have on the growth of fry? Will fry with exposure to plenty of light grow any quicker than fry that have less light, or just plain daylight? Ta
  11. ..are tiny! After about three weeks or so we no longer need the magnifying glass to see them, you just have to squint real hard now. But they really dont seem to be growing much. I was beginning to wonder if it was a tank full of creepy crawlies that had snuck in there and not fish. Should they take so long to grow? They are still just the tiniest specks. Lee
  12. That guy can make simple things look amazing.. Creative genius. Good pics
  13. Any luck getting some decent fry from these yet steve? Am still interested in finding another half for mine if you come across any,, LS
  14. Been through the books at the library today. Cant find anything. Nobody have a book that references this guy? Cheers
  15. Hi folks, Just found the new fish study thing, noticed this isnt on the list and i have one which i really dont wanna lose. I dont have any fish books, so does anyone else have one with reference to this fish? a.k.a "Botia Angelicus" cheers LS
  16. Heh, you may have to wait a while, its pretty pathetic looking at the moment Any other types of fishies that would go well and are available round here? LS
  17. Not all of them, ours liked to play with certain fish, and chase them a little though not to the point where the other fish were stressed. In no way was she ever aggesive though, she had a great personality. Sadly she has passed over now.. LS
  18. Yeh i know, i bought it unknowingly from a LFS after i was told it would be ok. He's only small right now, (about 1.5") but he'll be moved once he starts growing. And no anthony, i dont really want convicts LS
  19. Hi folks! I've just moved my Cichlids into their new tank, and now want to get more fish! woohoo Anyway, am just looking for ideas on what would be compatible. Currently there is: 3 kribs 1 firemouth 1 giraffe hap 1 dwarf flag (curviceps) 4 giant danios 1 b/n. I'd prefer to stick to the smaller, relatively peaceful cichlids. Im thinking maybe, cockatoo's when i find some, rams, and keyholes? Would they all go ok in there, and are there any others you can recommend? At the moment the tank is just dark sand with large stones, but im gonna put plants back in today, they survived well in the last tank with these fish. Thanks muchly! LS
  20. Laugh, i do know Blue! I meant the adults, i assume here that these babies have come from adults and havent been raised in a test tube
  21. what do these look like, got a pic?
  22. Wow, that is so cool. A little morbid.. but cool Mystic, looks just up your alley..
  23. No white specks on them ok. Gourami's are fussy when it comes to the water they live in, it has to be nice and clean and settled. They are also prone to a number of diseases because of this. If they're glancing, I'd say they're stressed (which can cause Ich and other problems). The fact that your tank hasnt cycled is probably the cause. A tank sitting there empty for two weeks with clean filter and water wont do a whole lot really. You definately need to read up on 'cycling'. I'd do a water change right away, say about 20%?, add some 'cycle' or aqua plus or something if you have some, and put a drop of stress-coat in there too. You need to keep an eye on those ammonia/nitrite levels until the tank settles, and you'll probably need to do several water changes until it does. What temperature is the tank running at? You could try increasing the temperature a couple of degrees to around 27-28 if below that already for a couple of days, but make sure either your filter oulet or air pump is breaking the surface of the water to help oxygenate it (warmer water holds less oxygen). Im sure others will have some thoughts to add too.. Lee
  24. Hmm, this is usually a sign of Ich, but after a week I think there'd be visible signs of it (little white spots, are there any?), so not sure. Two week old tank huh? So this hasnt been cycled before adding the fish? Did you use filter/water from another tank at least? The Nitrites in the tank mean there's some cycling going on, but you need to keep an eye on these levels. Anything over 0 for ammonia and nitrites isnt good. Search the forums for 'cycling a tank' if you dont know much about it, theres heaps of information on here for it. There's probably other stuff too, but its late and im knackered. Lee
  25. Some danios (pearl are nice) Or are they a little too active? Lee
