  1. Hi Rachel4! As you have seen, this place has sooooooooooo much information and the people are so wonderful to help AND FUNNY...well...they...hilarious...I don't remember learning being so much fun Is this your first tank? Take care
  2. Uhhh... ..what's "stroppy"???
  3. OR...give them watches and tell them what time to be back in!
  4. Thanks all...don't have time to write...going to work...my day is just beginning Caryl...not clamped fins...the tail fin is "shredded" rest are ok. Have to go...have a good night everyone!
  5. Sorry for so many pics...but I finally have a pic that you can see what I'm talking about. So, is it neon tetra disease? If so, everything I've read so far states there is no cure. So, do I remove the remaining tetras and...well, you know...euthanize? I've also read that once this is in your tank you have to "disinfect" the tank before adding any more fish, is this true?
  6. Yes, I was just reading it Bill...came here to check for replies. What do you think about adding Cycle, yes or no? Should a do 10L change, no vacuuming just take out? Or...just add the cycle??? I didn't add my fish all at once, but I think I may have added them too soon. Another one gone...he was hiding when I found him the red was almost as if it was turning white from the tail to the front, and his tail was "tattered" compared to last night. I know you can't really see the color good...tried to get good pic. So, what do you think...stress? nitrites? NTD?
  7. 110L tank: Hmmm...one of my black neons (1 of my original fish is dying). I'm thinking it is the high nitrites. ammonia 0 nitrites higher than .3 but not quite .8 Last week I did water change 3 nights in a row because ammonia was high. I didn't vacuum just took out the water. Maybe I took out too much, 18L??? I haven't done anything with the bio filter and only replaced the other one once. Other than that I was doing weekly changes which included vacuuming. Should I change 10L tonight? Would adding cycle help? Tank has been running since June 9th, 6 weeks. I think I added too many fish too soon
  8.  Tomorrow was my test day/water change but since I thought something was up I tested today. The pics didn't come out good...good meaning you can't see that the red is faded. Poor little bugger is back in tank. I'll have to see what tomorrow brings. But the red really is faded. Are there other reasons that this could happen? Isn't part of the cycling process having nitrites increase? Thank you...thank you
  9. I don't know but this fish is looking the same Could the high nitrites be doing it? Found some pics on the net but those fish had the blue gone as well the blue is still on these guys? Please help Just found this on a website...so stress could be doing it?
  10. Thanks BlueandKim You can only get the one kind of background here, and since I used the other side on my 10 gallon, I wanted something different. But, I found just the blue was a tad too plain and I think the bubble wall takes the dull away  I hope they do because when I turned off when I still had under the gravel they seemed more "happy" swimming everywhere. Plus I just didn't feel comfortable that there was enough movement at the water top.
  11. Can't see you pics Gretal...I've clicked on the red x & show picture but it wouldn't work...any ideas how I can see them??? Okay...previous thread here shows the bubble wall when I had it placed under gravel...now on wall above gravel: That is what I was looking for tiny bubbles...big difference from when it was under gravel. Now just have to wait and see if fishies like it, although, I think the sailfin mollie likes it he swims through it so I'm guessing he's okay with it...what do you think? Thanks for the help on this folks! Dolorosa
  12. That is it! I HAVE to get a tank for quarantine If anybody gets a chance, would you please check my post in the diseases section on neon tetra disease PLEASE, PLEASE,PLEASE What do I need for a quarantine tank: -how big (small I hope, don't have room) -air pump? -I saw somewhere no gravel? -filter, what ever size comes with the tank? What else do I need and need to know about setting one up? Thanks, Dolorosa
  13. Jude, found an old post of yours in 2004 but wasn't sure to use that or start a new one. Anyway, after sometime trying to get a good pic this is all I could get. The red in the one in the front is pale. He is one of my first neons. One of the new ones I bought the other day, a tiny one, his red is faded as well but I can't catch him to get him out of tank. Have been looking on the net to see if I can find pics of the disease. I've taken the fish out and put him in a bucket of tank water & put air in. How long can I keep him there? PLEASE HELP...what should I do? Could it be something else? just read somewhere on the net that low oxygen (don't think that is it though) Just checked water: ammonia 0; nitrites BETWEEN .3 & .8. Back later, have to go change water!
  14. So, does this mean that once you have added salt you have to keep tanks salted? Ok, understand top ups...just add water. Weekly change, salt everytime? And...is it beneficial to have it salted all the time or only if fish appear to be sick? THANK YOU
  15. True or not true, salt: help reduce stress, disease, help in the production of...slime coat?
  16. Alan: OH NO...that's what I did. The lady at the store just said be careful not to get it on the hood because it won't come off. WHY do I listen to them  ...oh &^%$ fudge. Graps box and reads...doesn't say anything about disolving in water first. She told me 1 tablespoon for every 5 gallons which it does say on the box. Maybe it was a good thing I did have all that movement at the time because I could have really hurt my fish. Maybe that's what happened to the new guppy he got hit with it???? She also said to put it in every 3-4 months, opinion on that please???? I've been doing daily water changes will they get rid of it? I'm doing small changes to get my ammonia down.

    Hello all

Welcome Liam  I see you're already planning how your disease is going to progress. It's a wonderful disease but a tad hard on the money side. Oh...MTS...is definitely an addiction   How big is your tank? When did you set it up? This site is great and the people...well, as usual can't say enough good things about them Take care, Dolorosa

    new name

Hi Steve_O New name...new computer...any new fishies
  20. Hi Gretal I don't know if you read previous thread on this...so sorry if repeat. This pump was the original air pump I bought. At the time, I had it for my 10 gallon. Really noisey...but it had 2 outlets, so I put a piece of hose on the 1 that wasn't going to the tank and it did cut down on the noise somewhat. There was nothing on it or the box to indicate if it was for a particular size tank or not and the lady at pet store said it would be fine. In my opinion it was just too powerful for my tank. So, I bought a pump that was for a 10 gallon. Where I have it, you can hardly hear it at all and that's only if your right next to it. I used the all blue background on the 29 gallon tank. So, I thought the bubble wall would just take the "plain" away, plus I want a little extra water movement at top of tank, the key word here is LITTLE not create the "perfect storm"! Do you have a pic of your bubble wall Gretal?
  21. Thanks Clarkeymaster That's all I ever want was a small wall of bubbles not BIG ones. Do you have a pic of yours? Since I've turned it off...fishies are more "all" over the tank...so to speak. If I can get the look I'm trying to get and the fish seem okay with it...after all it is there home  I'll keep it or else it will be gone.
  22. I'm on the east coast, he's on the west coast!
  23. Okay...pulled the plug on the bubble wand tonight. Soon as I shut it off...the fishies were everywhere. Is it possible it was too strong. I'm going to remove it from under the gravel & may try it just on the wall of the tank to see if I can get a smaller stream of bubbles. I still don't know if the pump was too big for it either...may try a smaller one...I only want a wall of tiny bubbles.

    Boy or Girl?

Uh...he/she...is beautiful. Sorry no help Shelley don't know about bettas. But I thought it was the males that made the nest too...but heck...what do I know! I've never asked about the bettas here...but someone said they won't sell 2 because there supposedly all males. But heck...WHAT do they know   Wait now...you said a gift for your "males"...you already had 2 males together...thought you couldn't keep 2 males together...or did you have them in different tanks?
  25. That's the problem Caryl! Not distance, only a 5 minute drive or so. I hate to repeat but as I've said only 2 places to get fish 1 pet store & 1 dept. store. Last week I went out to the pet store. Hadn't been there in a while. They don't have alot of fish and not many tanks. But this time...the tanks WERE A MESS  There was one tank that had a sign on it "big cichlid" half price. Welllllllll, the tank was that dirty you could hardly see the poor fish only because he was so big, may not have seen him at all. The other tanks weren't in much better shape. I basically walked right back out because the owner wasn't there. They were never anything fancy like you would see in a "true" pet store but they had always been clean before. So, the dept. store. All but 2 of the fish I have came from here. They were having some major problems with fish dying awhile back...I mean alot of fish dying as soon as they were getting them...they stopped getting fish for quite awhile. Anyway, I know you shouldn't get a fish that has just arrived but if you don't get them within a day or 2...there is hardly a fish left. They go super fast. Hence, the poor fish haven't had a chance to get over one stress then you're taking them home! But right now, there is no other way to get fish here. Considering the only time so far...thank you God...that I have had fish die it's been when they are new. The store has a 24 hour return if fish dies
