  1. Anthony You realy need to get a water storage tank. Having a small system isn't a problem as long as you realize that your tank will not be as stable as it could be, which means more regular water changes. I was lucky because my Father Inlaw is a manager at Bailey Tanks LTD so at the end of a run they made a 1000 litre tank for me. To the discust of many people here as well as my main tank I have a two foot tank with a couple of clowns in it (according to someone I also have an anemone in there as well but I don't remember putting one in their). I keep this tank very stable by doing regular but small water changes. but this can only be done if you have the water on hand. Your tank is not anywhere near as small but you could benefit in the same way if you get a storage tank and change your water more often. Aaron
  2. One of the big problems in this country is that the availabilty of things on the internet and the fact that the customers in this country are happy to go overseas has not sunk into the retailers here. Another problem is that there are to many middle men getting there bit before it gets to the retailer. Most of the internet sites no mater what they are selling are bying direct which keeps their prices down. Aaron.
  3. Layton Nice list. Hopefully I'll be able to get mine back to that standard one day. Although I only ever had about 3/4's of that. Aaron
  4. Further away from the tank would be a goog idea too. Aaron
  5. Ira A wet and dry vacume cleaner. We were talking about the sump overflowing. Aaron.
  6. Can depend on the sump. But as Ira said don't let it overflow and its not the water that is the problem for the carpet it's the salt. Theres a point. A must have is a Vax. Aaron
  7. I agree with importing for yourself. I got my AquaController off the Marine Depot but not every one has a credit card. Aaron
  8. The wharehouse has just got a range of fully electronic timers in for $9.99 6 programs per day. Aaron.
  9. Buzzy, are you aware of there price. I agree that Deltec's are the best you can buy but thats alot of money for a beginner and a tank that size do you really think he needs one of those. However if you have the money do it you wont regrett it. Aaron.
  10. Put it just under the waters surface so the siphan will break quickly when power is lost. Check it when done. The siphan must be lost as quickly as possible. Aaron
  11. 6' x 2' x 18" 2 x Perc Clowns 1 x Six Line wrasse 1 x Blue Tang 1 x Manderin 4 x Mushroom 3 x Leather coral 1 x Hammerhead coral I will add allot more when I put the system back together properly and find a seed for a money tree. Another tank has 2 clowns in it. Aaron.
  12. I would consider a storage tank or system a must depending on what I had. Aaron
  13. I agree. You should not restrict the flow of the return with a spraybar, use somethig else for that job. Aaron
  14. What corals are you thinking of. There is no point in bying the 150w rig if you will have to change it in the near future. Is this your first marine tank. Aaron
  15. Thats a nicely laid out list what do you think the total is so far on that. Aaron.
  16. I really am glad to see that there are this many people in Christchurch and in other parts of the south island that are this keen. Aaron.

Yes. and my storage tank has a small filter in it. I've never really worried about that because the water is always kept alive, and I like to do alot of water changes in my tanks so it doesn't stay around for that long. If you keep it alive it wont be a problem. No. You could find that the last one may vary with differant people depending on how they are runnig there tanks . Aaron.
  18. Actully you can buy fans that have their own adjustable thermostate built in. This would be the best way to go for the basic setup if their price is right. I don't know there price, If someone has a chance have a look in Dick Smiths site www.dse.co.nz for them they should have some. Aaron
  19. Now there something I must get. I have always used a hydrometer and kept it in a safe place in the tank. Who makes the best one for the money with ATC. Aaron.

I get Mine at high tide when it is calm. I use some straight away and put the rest in a 1000 litre tank that I have out the back which is always cycling itself. Aaron.
  21. I must admit that I love my AquqController 2 for being able to control these things. But this is the basic setup. I think we need to be carefull that we don't put to many extra's on here. Aaron.
  22. I agree with using cheap heaters if they are well made. I've seen cheap one's with better construction than some of the expensive brands. Aaron
  23. Yes. Brilliant. Lets use it. Why did it take all of that argument for someone to come up with this? Aaron.
  24. It is not poor. Show both and explain in each why one is better than the other so that anyone that looks at the informatoin in the future can see the proplems that each method has. This is supposed to be a referance guide for people in the future, not just for peole who are looking at it now. Aaron.
