Forget it. It's a new year coming up. Just think of those parents that lost their kids with the cliff collapse, and you think you have something to worry about??. Have a Merry Christmas, and remember the reason for the season. Alan 104
  2. I'd replace them. They'll help support the corners as you don't know how much they (corners) have been weakened by age. Alan 104

Very popular here too, if you can get them. As far as I know they are not being raised or bred here. I went to $100 a pair on TradeMe for some but the guy reneged on the deal. I really don't think he had them at all. Alan 104
  4. The real seal is where the mice could not get at it, between the two pieces of joining glass. Best for appearance sake that all the fillet is removed and relay it again. Otherwise you could have places where water could film in and you'd get an unsightly algae growth, growing there. To do it I use a small piece of glass, still raw from being cut. It cuts it out the fillet perfectly, you just have to do the corners by hand with a knife, but mind your hands, the glass is extremely sharp. Alan 104

What's the name of the first killie? I'm afraid you'll have to set your sights a lot lower in your choice of killi. We would be lucky to have 15 species in NZ, and I don't think either of them are here. But let me know if you know different. I'm always looking for new ones. It is surprising how they turn up every now and again. Alan 104
  8. Do you live rural using dam water?? If you have access to town supply this might neatralize the spores in the water. Alan 104
  9. It's a thingie that sticks out to aid the placement of her eggs. The boys have a similar appendage, but a slightly different shape. This is used for going over the deposited eggs and spraying them with milt, and sometimes this can be seen as a cloudy, milky substance, as it is deposited. With goldfish at a heated spawning, it appears as if milk has been tipped into the pond. Alan 104

Maybe it will be your first killie. Hope it is a male if it is, cause they are hard to distinguish as females. Where are you getting your killies from and do you belong to the NZKA?? Alan 104
  11. And welcome to the FNZAS fishy forum Alan 104
  12. Ever painted a house and got unwanted paint on the spouting or down pipe?? Tried removing it?? If you were to paint the PVC, give it a light scuff with sand paper to give it a a base for bonding, should hold it. Alan 104
  13. I saw those on TM and thought"what a sucker" You can get them from almost any waterway in NZ. $1.50 on one of those auctions.!!!! Alan 104
  14. The reason that you don't get fungused eggs with parental care, is that the mum will know as the eggs aren't fertile, and she'll pick them out from the brood and dispose of them by eating them. Later, as the tails break free of the eggs, she'll suck them out of the egg shell and take them to a prepared pit. Alan 104
  15. I used blackboard paint when I have done that. Alan 104
  16. By the sounds of it she is trying to get down to the substrate. Get a flat piece of slate and just bury it in the area she is digging in. When she finds that, the fun should begin. Alan 104

Where did you get the tank from Jasmine?? I'm sure the lid supplier will shorten up the lid for you for nothing. I would. Alan 104
  18. Ever tried taking pics or videos in the control area?? I did in Sydney and you should have seen the guys in those dark overalls converge on me. Equipped with those little sub-machine guns. I didn't argue, although I did ask. Alan 104
  19. You can do it within days of their birth, Just look for the ones with the gravid spot showing and the shiny tummies are the boys. But keep a watch on the boys, cause you may have missed the odd girl or two. Alan 104
  20. Now we want one to go the opposite way. We want more boyz!!!! Alan 104
  21. Isn't that a Peace Lily?? Alan 104
  22. BBS =Baby Brine Shrimp Cyclops, if that is what you mean are predatators and at the size the gourami are they could be in trouble, also they are too big for food straight after the green water. Holding nets are next to useless IMHO, they can be sucked thru and you can't feed directly to them either.. MTS coming up, breed and you need more tanks, it just goes with the territory. Alan 104
  23. Infusoria, or in the aquarist world, green water for a couple of weeks. Followed by BBS. Have heaps of java moss in their tank, this will supply them with mico food, and remove dad about two days after babies are free swimming, no more than a week. Remove mum as soon as the spawning has ceased. Hatching in about 2 days, but they'll still rely on Dad to keep them up in the nest till they are free swimming properly in about a week. Keep the tank covered, warm, and the water about 75mm deep. Goodluck Alan 104
  24. As far as I know there aren't. They were misnamed, but maybe I haven't just come across them. I was so close to buying some when I "thought" they were albino, but I checked the eyes and said "YUK". Alan 104
