http://www.trademe.co.nz/Home-living/Pe ... 788026.htm - This looks like one of " THOSE" auctions. Didn't get what they wanted, even tho it made the reserve, so it was withdrawn. Well? That's what they said happened. Or was it just that someone made a private deal?? I'll settle for the last
  2. I have just split this from the other tank thread. New tank question. Alan -Mod
  3. I must be getting to appreciate what is left Sarah. At least I did look.
  4. Yep, I'd go for that to B&K
  5. I was waiting for the duckling to get eaten when it went for a swim itself. Cute as
  6. Gee thanks for that Warren. I did read it. Just did a skim read before I went for the Rego form and didn't find it there either Male looking
  7. Where us the accomodation Warren??
  8. Go to garden centre or similar and take away their broken earthen ware pots, shape to size, put in tank, done. Get more caves using thinner material too.

And don't leave the food on top of the tank where it can get knocked into the tank. I had to clean up a tank that had been polluted this way by mice activity, not mine thank goodness, but it was one of the most revolting jobs that I have ever had to do. Dead fish for several days in a tropical tank don't smell nice, believe me.
  10. Put the fish into bags. The more water out, the lighter the lift. Cover the plants with wet newspaper to stop dehydration while you are doing the shift.
  11. Just empty all the water out, you'll be fine. Don't forget though when you put it down, to put it onto polystyrene during the shift.
  12. One thing that is a buzz at this stage, especially with "hard to sex fish" is the fact that you have at least one fertile couple. Always a helluva good start
  13. The reason the patch should have been on the inside of the tank is for the simple reason to stop the water if a leak starts. Obviously, with the patch on the outside of the crack, the water can go through the crack and out the side of where it exits the glass. Sorry. I made the same mistake years ago, you only do it once. And glue, silicon, that is used in aquariums, would have been ok to use, and use under water too, while the fish are insitu. Just make sure that the patch can touch the glass on the edge where the crack runs from. This is done by making sure that the gullet of glue, run up the corner of the tank, is removed cleanly, and it is then replaced with the patch with the silicon on it.
  14. You have done well so far Loopy, keep it up and keep them in the dark. But to go back to the above quote. When you have raised a minimum of ten fry to thirty days, then we'll put your name up in lights. I know what it is like to breed a few species of fish, and I have had MANY disappointments
  15. I knew of a breeder who put traps on top of poles to catch kingfishers. At the trout breeding facility at Rotorua, they have nylon streched above the ponds. Herons = .22 or air-rifle
  16. Never had a shag, but a kingfisher got a bath full from me.
  17. Put a piece of raw meat on a string and leave over night on the tank bottom. Carefully withdraw the meat on the string in the morning and dip it into a strong salt solution and see what reaction the "THINGS" have. If they die, you could then remove the gravel and soaked in salt water, it should knock them right back. Or just keep using the trap method.
  18. A cochu blue is a tetra not a rasbora. Can't make out enough definitions to even hazard a guess, be good to have some colour and markings.
  19. Never heard a report from the club delegates after their return. They would have had the information then Caryl.
  20. Yes. Same as the neons will drop their colours and others will develop spots or stripes themselves. It's called, sleep mode.
  21. For a virgin in KK the waiting time is intolerable, but you do get use to it tho Paul
  22. Be good to know then I can arrange a billet.
  23. Stu always has gravel or sand in his tanks too, as well as peat, and uses the syphon to extract the eggs from the substrate, but still stores them on damp peat.
