  1. IOU1 there is nothing to be sorry for, everyone has there opinions and all have merit. What you said is not incorrect. Which everway David R chooses is up to him, - having a clean tank is important, it's like insurance - there is more room in the water parameters to move if something should go wrong.
  2. double post  who's the dingbat
  3. Fish can handle a 90% water change as long as the temp is right and the water has at least 24 hours aging. Some discus breeders do it every day and there fish look - WOW - and grow fast. as for a third treatment instead of gravel vac - Well that's up to you but what antwan wrote is what is recommended and has worked best for others. As you consider how you will treat your fish I can not under sate how nasty this parasite is the last thing you want is a bad infection !!!!!!
  4. Feeding them up is also called conditioning the for spawning
  5. Sorry, like you I have not been away for a long period of time either. There is though -- Would you rather come home to starving fish or dead ones??? I don't know how many time I've heard this happen. IMHO 2 weeks is not to long. If I was in your shoes I would feed the fish up - start now clean your tank well lots of gravel vac's ( in rotation if you use an under gravel filter ) - water changes. Hopefully your fish will be in really good condition and the tank as will, your water should be crystal clear if it's not aready
  6. There is a nasty catch to this parasite. That is if you have a really bad infection you will need antibiotics as well. The reason the worms are red is they are sucking your fishes BLOOD!! So when they are removed the fish have open wounds in their gut. A small infection can be cleaned up with out bacterial infection - it's the bad infections that have complications in this way for the most part. antwan said This statement can not be understated, you vac the gravel to REMOVE worm eggs - that's why a second treatment is required. Good luck

    pool filters

Pool pumps are also noisy, I had 1 in my fish room connected to a 30 micron pre-filter. But as the cold of winter ended it caused the temp to go over 30C ( that was with a ventilation fan going 24/7 ), THE HIGHER WATTAGE IS TRANSFERRED as heat to the water. As for sand filters they are pre-filters - needing a back wash from time to time for cleaning. I change the pool pump to a couple of aquarium pumps and filter wool above the trickle filter and the water is just as clear as long as the wool is changed weekly, that is for a 2000lt system.
  8. I read an artical on breeding them and I don't recall them needing special conditions and as your on Auckland water which is rain water with a little lime it should be fine. Do you have bubbles and a little blue in with your eggs??? Over priced pretty fish , there not that hard to breed apparently compared to other cory's.
  9. There is a strong market for all nice looking guppys, including albino's. I only have 1 male. Would love to get a female if any body has a spare 1 or 2.
  10. Yes I do too . I was so tempted to buy them myself but just didn't have the funds to do so. There a very nice and popular cory, I don't really understand why they are not imported through he normal channels. Good luck mate. p.s I managed to pick up a young pair of albino b/n while I was up your way last week
  11. So are the 2 bottom pic's fish you have bought?? Or are you still looking ? yes the bottom 2 are a Brochis species.
  12. I would not panic just yet rcon021, I don't know how many females you have but unless it was the same female the eggs may be old. just keep breding them ..... I have bronze corys breeding from time to time, unless the same female breeds twice in a short time the eggs have a very poor yeld, so this maybe the problem you are having....your fish are full adults not young adults. So...just keep doing what you are doing if your fish are fine you will get good eggs in time. What ever you do don't give up other wise you will go back to square 1. as for water flow over the eggs, this maybe a problem but remember the fish know what they are doing and will choose the best area's to place there eggs.

    B/N X GBA

I think it has, read a post. That stated they got common and GBA's out of there common B/N. Aparently the parents breed in the shop and they were sold the offspring.
  14. That species is just fine in a community tank as long as it's not bullyed or with fish that nip fins. So a few corys will be fine.
  15. I see them all the time in pet shops Billaney, They call them green corys but if you look at the dorsal fin you'll find they are your Brochis.
  16. I use mine in a fresh water sump and have never had a problem, but I did make sure nothing would get into my sump that would cause a problem as there not cheep to replace.
  17. Hi A mm,umm you don't have killies that product that size eggs if they are killi eggs. have you tryed picking 1 up, if there killi eggs they will be hard and will not pop unless already dead. If you think there that big and are killi eggs then they must be gardneri eggs. Are you able to take a pic with the egg in a ruler??
  18. Well that could be a little problematic or IDing them. Well there not Notho's Epiplatus ( i think thats spelt wrong ) have very small eggs Fundulpanchax gardneri gold's eggs are around 1/2 a mm in diameter Aphyosemion australe eggs are in between the 2 The notho's may have been trying to get a free lunch The gardneri and australe are switch spawners - that is they are just as happy to spawn in mops as the gravel - sometimes it's easyer for the male on the gravel when he presses her. There probably E. dageti do the eggs look really small??
  19. They wont be your notho's as they don't have sticky or hooks to catch the mop not to mention there substate spawner not mop spawners  they may be Epiplatus dageti there eggs are small. What other species do you have this may help ID the eggs.
  20. The tank conecter idea from Pet planet is what I was thinking. You can find them at the pool shop ( don't know it's name ) across from Woolworths in how do you spell it wiakenai nope  next city north of Kapiti, they are very help full.
  21. I have not breed any Panaque, But know a guy that was into fancy pleco's. He had a copy of a thesis study on breeding many of them. The guy ( who wrote it ) found them very hard to breed doing only what you have written until ... He placed a power head directed at the males cave, apparently some species will not leave there cave when getting ready to spawn and need the current to blow food to them this was an important trigger to spawning some of these pleco's. Don't know if this applies to Panaque Changae L226 but it may be something to keep in mind
  22. I did contact them about another species weeks ago but have not had a reply yet  I suggest you breed them up fast Alan, so you can send me some
  23. I'm looking for Guentheri gold. Just wondering who has them??

    australe golds

21C ( 18 to 22C ) is best for A. australe. They can handle it colder and warmer but best spawnings result in the above temps. Eggs should hatch in 10 days at 21C.
