  1. Hey Mrs Frog I think your male probably wasnt ready to mate have found that with my original breeding pair when he wasnt in the mood he would harass the female even to the point of eating the eggs the female had just laid. Sorry to hear of your loss . I lost my old female too but he has a new mate younger and they have just bred so i have lots of eggs as of yesterday and when I got home tonight I found that they had all hatched so will keep an eye out for them I have renmoved the parents and keep them in their own tank just to be safe if you are keen in a couple months if the fry do well I could send you a few to grow out.. let me know.. I also have a juvenile male that I need to get rid of I had him on trademe but he got beat up so have to take him off to get him looking better etc... and try again...
  2. saw one the other day. $120.00 on the north shore at Pupuke aquarium approx 30 cms might be a little less...
  3. is this avaiable in NZ if socan I order through the stores or has anyone propagated it thanks very much....
  4. once the jags get to full size or maybe bigger at least they will turn on any tank mates especially when breeding while they are this small they wont be too much trouble but they wld other wise kill any other tank mates normally.. eggs would be fine so long as other tank mates cant get to themthough the parents do tend to eat them once they are free swimming so it would be prudent to place them in a separate tank I know that diff_girl keeps mature Jags and they had young that are around 4/5 months now and her and her partner are looking to start up another Jag tank...
  5. I have a sth island koura which is noted that thay are larger than their north island cuzzies ...went out into the local streams and found a few of the north island species both rearing in the same tank doing well with my mystus catfish bronzies and tadpoles and a frog....
  6. thank you for that .will be getting 4 tanks 2moro so he will have his own then.
  7. I have mbuna, oscars,CA,SA,NA, a bit of a mix thanks all doing well...only been keeping for the past 2 years now.and a few cats..Though now I have a few anatoboids due to my friend fish_fingers hehe...

  9. I have a cichlid that is swimming ungainly and always rests on the bottom of the tank he eats as normal harasses as usual and darts off when confronted by the largest tank mate.. has anyone had a similar experience with any of their fish.. please I am seeking advice thank you....
  10. nice fish congrats I have a large male which he has paired up with a juvie female and also another small male they all doing well ....
  11. at a glance your second fish could be a salvini tho with out a good profile one can never be absolutely sure. I imagine if there was a black stripe going diagonally across the face from top to jaw and also a black spot on its flanks it could well be a brasiliensis... good luck
  12. Hi there I have a very large male his tank mate died from disease sadly but he has taken to a more juvi female i have and I also have another juvi male.. she too has taken to the large male and i watched her lay her eggs the day before.. all doing well.. I feed them on varied diet flake bloodworms mealworms insects and I have feeder fish also...I rarely feed all my fish on red meat only like once a month
  13. I have brasiliensis, they just spawned so have around approx. 50 fry....dont find them that aggressive they get bullied by my smaller Quetzels and Texans, even the mating convicts rough them up...so too the red jewels... my Oscar and large Quetzel male just leave them alone...Though i have separated my large Texan and Jag from the main tank till i get my 7 ft up and running... Just have my bristlenoses albino corys and Khuli loach in with them at the moment had to leave the mum in the net tho...
