  3. Was looking for such info as how much to put in per litre / gallon so only kill leeches and not all my fishes, but apart from that, I'll use the 'lob it in with great enthusiasm' method that has been recommended
  4. Eyup folks, I'm wanting to salt 3 of my tanks, those darn leeches won't stay dead and more keep appearing so I'm going to salt them to death. I got a bag of sea salt from the LFS, the question is :- what is the best method to salt the tank and make sure its dissolved properly into the water?? I have Zebra Danio's in one tank, Rummynose Tetra's, Bristlenose Plecs and a Common plec in another tank, third one is empty and was in the middle of setting it up but not taking any chances these things appear. Cheers
  5. You must have been asleep at that point of the meeting when Kevin told everyone
  6. can still lift it out, stick it in the bath, have the nozzle pointing into a bucket and do as above
  7. Use the filter to pump water into a 10L bucket(take the outlet pipe from filter out of the tank and aim it at bucket type thing ), and count how long it takes, and you can work out flow rate per minute for your filter.

    fish info

Looking for info on the following catfish:- Clown Syno Chocolate Cat Crocodile Cat Network Syno Featherfin Things like preferred water parameters, type of behaviour(active, shy etc), scientific names(only got what Animates label them to go on), suitable tank mates, feeding habits, eventual size etc. Couldn't find much on the net... Cheers
  9. GBA are $145 in Animates, go figure
  10. I have around 150+ Zebra Danio's available shortly, waiting another couple of weeks to let them get a little bigger....
  11. Woke up this morning, and found that my Peppermint plec had passed away during the night, ran some water test and the phosphate was off the scale. I figured out that the plecs had been digging and the substrate released loads more phosphate into the tank, rescued the other fish in there and dumped them in my 4fter while I set up my 6fter. ho hum
  12. Don't know the m/f ratio, they aren't identifiable yet. I'll keep an eye on them and see how they get on.
  13. I've noticed that my 3 Bristlenose have had the light parts of their tail fins nipped off by something. The likely candidates are... 5 Clown Loaches 3 Hoplo's 1 Snowflake Bristlenose the 3 Bristlenose themselves? Also in the tank with 4 bronze cats, 20 Neons and a big common plec. Cheers

    CO2

plants take in CO2 to grow by absorbing the carbon and expelling the excess oxygen. If you add in higher levels of CO2 into your tank, the plants have more carbon to absorb and their growth basically triples overnight. Your plants will grow without adding CO2, they will grow *really* fast with a good CO2 supply going into your tank.
  15. That tank he is in atm is far too small, he has little or no space to swim around and he can only just turn. I'd stick him in a tank at least 6ft, gives him some space to swim about.
  16. I know Baldrick, I hope you've got a *really* big tank for him A very very large poly box, a couple of folk to carry it and a van would be my suggestion.
  17. Speak with Roger at the club meeting this wednesday, he might be able to answer any questions you have.
  18. when you do the water changes, are you adding in anything to remove the chlorine from the water? e.g. Aquaplus or something similar? The addition of the filter being so thoroughly cleaned to the water change and the stress from being chased by other fish might have been the straw that broke the camels back as they say.
  19. Small partition in the tank for the harrassed fish to rest up in, or another male to pair up with it?
  20. The fish died because cleaning the filter in chlorinated water kills all the good bacteria which breaks down the ammonia / nitrites and the chlorine would have helped too. The best way to do it is by filling a bucket from the tank that the filter came from and rinsing the filter material in there.
  21. How big is the tank? How big is the filter? Is the heater on? Have you done any water changes? What are you feeding them and how much? Do you have any water test kits?
  22. There are 39 fish in there, 5 of them plecs. They have been eating the mozzies, but there are that many of them they are still getting through
  23. Just like to point out, Laura has not had her daily dose of alcohol yet, but the bit about our 6ft tank being infested with mosquito's is quite correct. I spotted around 200+ mozzies floating at the top of the tank and on the underside of the glass lids. I've squished quite a few, but plenty remain. I'm planning on emptying the thank and moving the fish out and generally cleaning out the tank to hell and back. Remember folks, having a mosquito colony in your lounge may be good for your fish, but its not quite my thing
  24. I've cycled nearly every tank i have with the 6 same neons, and they've done me proud, they got the reward of living in my 6ft tank with another 14 neons and they still try to beat each other up
