Right...done some basic math. Give or take 5% I am turning over my tank around 24 times per hour. What should it be?

By the way, tank turnover is irrelevant. You can have a powerful pump 3 feet away from an SPS that creates a set amount of movement. You can also have a smaller pump 8 inches from the same SPS and the Bloody coral does not or will not know the difference IMO. Tank turnover rates simply assist with filtering and self cleaning. I guarantee you can run SPS with smaller current than everyone presumes, so long as they are refreshed and the main tank turnover is sufficient for filtration needs. If the water parameters are all good, the the SPS wont mind faster or harder currents, (Within reason of course). DEBATES HERE WE GO!!!!

If you end up doing a Reef system you will want to go for the hallides and decent filtration. If you dont start with this you will kick yourself afterwards. Trust me, I did!! And with a 220 Litre system, once again you will kick yourself! I have started with 300 odd litres and need more!
  11. Already done that! Waiting for the reply. Catch you next week.

  13. and the response is this.... Dear Craig, some of our customers had bad experience with that product in saltwater, but we could not find out why. Therefor we do not mention it for the use in saltwater. Anyhow, there are other customers as well using it with success. Therefor please keep it observed. Kind regards JBL Dr. Rainer Keppler I shall keep my little beady eye on this one.

to the single poster. What a beautiful explanation! It makes the most sense so far. You da man Arfur!
  15. Here is the website: http://www.jbl.de/index_uk.html I have seen it says fresh, but does not say it is not for salt. I have emailed thier team and will wait for a response. My tank looks awesome!
  16. Me and Rob searched the box and never saw "Fresh" However.........Squeak, squeak!!!!
  17. Yeah, will do....It will take some time I guess. At least a couple or three months.

  19. 10.4 kms to be precise Chim!! This is certainly something to consider and the proof will be when we see continual reduction to zero on a permanent basis. Fingers crossed!!
  20. Nitates down to 7 and dropping Phosphates dropping also. (Salifert) It seems to be working....... I will continue to post results.
  21. Exactly what Im thinking. No harm in trying. The only funny thing I am noticing is my skimmer is foaming,, but hardly pulling anything out. I dont know whether the media is pulling it or whether something in the balls is flattening the water column or something. The water is super clean though.... ???

Cheers Guys, got some from Chim before I even got these posts!
  24. Hey Im not 100% sure of its effectiveness yet, although it seems to be working nicely along with other things. I have recently removed a heap of trickle filter material also which would have helped with the nitrates. Its called Clearmec plus from JBL and is not labled for either fresh or salt, but is an adsorbant that pulls: nitrite nitrate phosphate in decent amounts. Then you chuck away after a couple of months. Carbon is not required as it clears the water even better than carbon! Its awesome, but not proven completely yet, (Not by me anyway!). $24.00 for 300 litres for 2 months. (Im running double dose). CHEAP!
