  1. B/Nose do like the Pumpkin but it does foul the water quickly and breaks up easily, its seems to come off in clumps of fibres that are wonderful for blocking your filter.
  2. Guppylover2, click on the enter here in the middle of the page, go down to DIY projects and 4 lines down on the list is "A Betta Home For Your Betta Splendens"
  3. You can't go wrong with an Eheim. I use 2213's on my 3ft and on my 4ft, 2213 is rated up to 250 ltrs and the 2215 is rated up to 350 ltrs. Depending on your budget you could go for an 2324 (250ltrs) or 2326(350ltrs) that have an integrated heater so no heater in the tank, good distrubtion of heat and no broken heater if you do a large water change
  4. Maybe hes claustrophobic Is it his first spawning? I had several things in my tank when i was trying to get some GBA breeding and they picked the last thing i would have thought. I've had about a dozen spawnings and all of them in this ship, he loves it and so do the young as you can see.
  5. Yes Matt marks definetly wrong way around, hopefully thats all, herefishiefishie if that doesn't work try the photobucket site http://www.photobucket.com as i've found it to be the best & easiest to use.
  6. Hi Tigerson, how big is the tank you have the neons in? I assume you have a heater and filter, did you give the new gravel a good wash? To wash the gravel best way i've found is to put it in a bucket and run a hose into it letting it overflow for a while, i use my hand to stir the gravel and have the hose going on full, gets rid of all the lil bits of rubbish out of the gravel. Cycling; basically your fish will excrete waste, this waste and excess food will produce amonia (poisonous) usually there are good bacteria in the tank that turn amonia into nitrite and more bacteria that turn nitrite (slightly poisonous) into nitrate (poisonous in high concentrations) some nitrate will be used by live plants in the tank. These good bacteria live in mainly your filter media some in the gravel and a little bit in the water. It takes time for the bacteria to grow to a point where they will eliminate most of the waste in your tank, you still have to do water changes to dilute the nitrate either weekly, fortnightly or monthly depending on tank size and how heavily stocked the tank is, there are products (Stress Zyme or Cycle) that contain bacteria that will speed up the cycling process. Did you set the tank up, put the neons in and they died the day after your tank was setup or was it a few days later?
  7. Panaque what size are the ones you are selling for $15 ? Mine were about 50mm long but waiting for more to grow that size before selling them, feel sorry for the male as the female gives him eggs to look after every 3 weeks, poor guy hardly gets a rest.

I'd be sending Fair Go an e-mail and a copy to who you bought it off, won't cost anything and would be very satisfying LOL

It may be a Jebo, not sure but it isn't one of the Aqua One sizes. Aqua One do have an HR 1280, give the retailer a rark up as a leaking tank that i'm sure wasn't cheap is not acceptable.

Travis & Vicki, i've never heard of an Aqua One tank leaking. That looks like a Jebo tank from what i've seen, what does it say at the bottom of the tank on the right hand side? I would also take it back and ask for a non leaking replacement or money back, mention Fair Go as it seems to have an amazing effect on store owners.

Hi Marktrix, I've got an Aqua One AR850 (wish i'd bought the 980) they are a very good display tank and the cheapest place for one is http://www.petplanet.co.nz (what you save on the tank purchase can be used to stock it) If you are able to get to Hollywood Fishfarm they have some quite large Jebo tanks with built in lights and filters that were very well priced and definetly worth a look.
  12. Could put some stocking over the intake as this will stop the fry going in but wont impede the flow.
  13. I used a 2212 when i had a 4' goldfish tank and thought it was excellent. Easy to service and liked being able to clean one section a week so it was very good for bacterial colonies. Also with the 2212 you can remove one or two sections to make it shorter as required and as far as i know the Aquaball is the only one you can do this with. The fine filter i found i had to clean once a week due to my over feeding with flake, started using pellets and that sorted out the problem. Loved the mutli directional nozzle very handy. I will be getting another one soon for my hospital tank. There are some on Trade Me but are much cheaper from Hollywood Fish Farm.
  14. Shelley if you like the Plecos but not the size you could give the Bristle Nose a try, usually grow to 10-15cm tops. The Golden Blackeye Ancistrus (B/Nose) are an awesome looking fish and don't grow to big.
  15. Basically the bigger the better, as big as you can afford, when i started out i bought a couple that would do the trick, then wanted to add more airstones so had to buy more pumps, if i had just bought one 4 outlet would have saved two trips to LFS and would have been much cheaper.
  16. Hi Blitz, if you want to have fry from the Guppies and Swords the Angels will eat them, I have 2 lge Angels in my AR850 with 3x rams 2xB/Nose 12x Loaches and they behave well, occasionaly when there are to many Guppy fry in my 4 ftr i net a few out and put them in with the Angels and they go mad hunting them down. The 4 ftr is all Swords and Guppies and looks quite cool
  17. Hi Caper, the one your after is Otocinclus. I wouldnt go for the chinese algae eater as they are around the 6" mark fully grown, recommended tank size is 25+ Gal. Could always try to find some sort of fish club in your general area and they would be able to point you in the right direction. Good luck : -)>
  18. I've only got 3 tanks,3ft ,4ft , Aqua One 850, could easily fill twice as many or more, if your looking for test kits etc you may have more luck buying them on-line, must be a few sites selling aquatic products, even lil ole NZ has a few on-line stores, Trade Me (new & used products on-line auction is very popular).
  19. My Gold Boy My Gold Girl Another batch of eggs hatched Sunday but he hasn't let them out yet, had a couple try to swim around but they are 97% egg 3% tail so swimming is near impossible. Should be out free swimming in a couple of days, need another tank for a grow out tank. Mind you seems you always need another tank "just one more" LOL
  20. I've got Ottos in a tank with a heap of swordtails and guppies, and a couple in with standard B/Nose's, loaches of all sorts, rams and angels and i've never seen an Otto suck on another fish, i had a couple of Borneo Suckers in with goldfish and they caused no problems, hardly ever saw them LOL. I like the fancy plecs (working on a deal for Peppermint's x2 and Goldy's x2 hoping to swap for a few Golden Blackeyed Ancistrus. Hollywood Fishfarm have a Goldy about 70mm long for just under $100. The only prob i have found is there are to many different types of Plecos, Loaches and basically all fish, so will be building a huge garage/fishroom when i win lotto this weekend, of course will have to stop work to look after them 8)
  21. I traded my red tailed black shark in because it was chasing the rams and angels so off he goes LOL
  22. LOL mine are fairly safe as there are only guppies and swords in that tank, when i get to many guppy fry i catch a few and put them in with the rams and angels, the angels go ballistic chasing them, so funny to watch LOL, Clown, Striata, Lochata, and Golden Zebra Loaches are not interested in the fry in the slightest but the big Clown Loach (17-18 cm)will grab one if it swims past just can't be bothered chasing them. Or maybe he's brighter and lets the angels chase them and just lays in wait :-?
  23. Mine won't drop their fry in breeding containers as they we're to stressed but didn't take long to drop when they went back in their own tank, the fry had a lot of places to hide and i was feeding twice a day so the bigger swordtails and guppies wouldn't eat the fry.
  24. Yep thats the one, it's easier to see on the orange/red swords, just behind the silver stomach part. Not sure how old/big they have to be, mine it seems to be around the 60 mm ish mark. I started with 2 and theres about 60 in the tank (4 ft) now sharing with a ton of guppies. Looks like you have had some luck breeding fingers as there are a few there
