  1. Cool, thanks for that,,,,will get one in the morning!!! I think I just caught guppy fever
  2. I got given 4 guppies, that were put in the tank on Friday, I noticed on Saturday that there were fry hiding in the Java moss.....thanks to Shae, I think the guppies are the parents. My tank is an ex-turtle tank, so has a ledge and ramp at one end....I have some small rocks and Java moss on this, I guess it was a good idea as the fry have made that area home. I have tried giving the fry crumpled up fish flake, while feeding the other fish at the other end, and is egg yolk OK? Any other suggestions on how to care for them, haven't got my other setup ready yet, no heater filter etc....wasn't expecting babies so soon
  3. Thanks SHae, will post my next Q's in the live bearer forum then
  4. Darn things won't stay still for my tape measure, but guessing around 1cm. Clear in colour with black eyes. They stay near the top of the water in the Java moss, their tales sort of shimmer, and they will flit off and hide if a bigger fish comes by.
  5. Here is the story, I went to pickup a few bristlenose from a lady in Auckland on Thursday......came home with 17 of the little blitters and 9 tiny platties.....as well as 4 guppies. She said they needed homes and I couldn't turn them down  . Well once the B/n get larger the LFS will buy them off me, so thats OK. Didn't expect to have any plattys......so don't know exactly what to do with those. Now to the guppies, 1 male and 3 females.....1 of the girls was very large & I suspected she may be pregnant. They were in my tank on Friday, noticed Saturday that there are about 12 or so little baby fish swimming among the Java moss. So I am wondering if they are guppy babies, or if my WCMM have had a batch. I guess the experienced people here would know by sight, but I am just guessing on the guppies. Wish I could take a pic that would show anything

    Axolotls

I had 3 awhile ago, they are quite neat pets, I kept mine in a 4ft tank, heavily planted with lots of hiding places. The more they get used to you the easier they are to feed....I used thin slivers of meat such as heart. They don't hurt when they nip your finger by accident....their teeth aren't that big. They can bite each other though, lose linbs etc.....freeky thing is they can grow them back Mine lost a injured of toes in a fight, the old ones healed, but she grew new ones aswell....funniest thing...had about 7 toes on one foot LMAO. I ended up giving them to my nephews class, as their mascots....apparently they are still going strong. Good luck with them, and keep us posted!
  17. Here is a pic of my lonely Livebearer, will be hopefully getting him a couple of females in a few weeks, poor quality photos I'm afraid!!!

    HI 2 All

Hi & Welcome, this is such a great place, you'll will learn so much here, the people are very firendly and helpful 8)
  21. Welcome, I have only been here a short while, learning lots and loving it!!! Your lucky your hubby has the addiction with you.....I have to try and sneak my new fish into the tank without hubby noticing LMAO!!! I too have just started a tropical tank aswell. I put in 4 WCMM (white cloud mountain minnows) which I already had.....they are neat little fish and do well in cold and tropical water I've been told......mine adjusted extremely well. I had 2 inside goldfish aswell, but the joined the outside pond the other day, and seem happy I then bought a Peppered catfish, tottaly cool fish!!!!, then got him a friend, an albino catfish......next on my list is most probably black mollies. Anyways, glad you found this site, you'll love it here, I do!!!
  22. Should have checked my spelling LOL Should have said.....someone had bought all but 1
  23. I went out to buy a couple of friends for my newly aquired Peppered......someone had but all but 1 little albino......so had to give the little thing a home. I think I read somewhere on here that different sorts of catfish get along? Hope I got it right!
  24. The transfer went well.....they are happily swimming around with the other 2.
  25. Will have to be on the lookout for more then, the tank is Length=915mm Width=380mm Hight=400mm So far all I have in there is 4 WCMM, and the peppered Catfish.....so I guess there is plenty of room for lots more fish?
