Darn I would really love to have a giant kokopu in my aquarium, I heard they get to 40cm. Is it true that Inanga are agressive?

Have you ever tried to keep them at tropical temperatures? You could couldn't you, as I believe goldfish are coldwater fish that can be kept at tropical temps?

I think blood parrots originated from a severum bred with a convict and what in singapore is called a 'luo han' is a midas crossed with another cichlid. Has your midas developed its hump yet? I believe there are 2 fully grown midas at wet pets.

Has anyone ever kept Inanga or any other whitebait species? I was down in Hokitika at Christmas time and visited their aquarium where they have a huge cicrular tank with native eels, and in a seperate tank they have an Inanga which is 20 years old. I thought he was a very nice fish, but apparently very aggressive.

Personally I think wet pets is the best fish shop in the lower north island. I love that huge tank they have with that big silver arowana and the other one with the jardini in it. I am looking forward to when my siamese tiger gets to the same size as their tigers. In regards to the Jack Dempsey, I believe that central american cichlids have a habit of mating with each other, so possibly you might have a jackxconvict cross soon Midas.

Midas, How have u found your jack? Is he aggressive at such a small size? Does anyone know the max size for a jack dempsey

i have recently acquired 2 orange chromide (the smaller chromides get to about 4") I am wondering if it is possible to sex them and has anyone had experience breeding or keeping these fish?

Are Jack dempsey available in New Zealand? I have never seen a juvenile or adult in a shop.

I have only ever seen juvenile silvers but on the MAF site it states that Black aros and asian aros are legal for import. Has anyone ever seen anything other then a silver?

I have a moonlight gourami that is about 6". You can tell the males and females apart by what colour tinge they have. The female has a yellow tinge on her pelvic fins, the male has a red tinge. I have found mine to be a bully who is constantly annoying her tankmates, especially the other gouramis. i have found her to be a hardy fish, as she has jumped out of the tank on occasions and appears to be fine when I put her back in. I also have 1tsp of salt per 10l and she appears to like it.

well unbelievable as it may sound, over the past days my siamese tiger has grown quite fond of pellets meant for cichlids and cichlid tucker. Infact, from not eating anything about a week ago, yesterday I saw him steal a hunk of cichlid tucker right from my giant gourami's mouth. So there you have it, they don't necessarily need live food. I guess he got so hungry he had to eat what I gave him.

do you know how to sex siamese tigers? I would love to try and breed them one day and make a fortune, seeing that I paid $120 for my 3 inch juvenile.

who here has kept the earth eating cichlid? Mine are curently 4" inch juveniles. Does anyone know the potential size or how to sex them and hence how to breed them?

Currently i only have one tank running, It is a 4'x2'x2' tank and contains a number of juveniles 1x BGK (6") 1x Fire Eel (12") 2x Jurupari earth eaters (4" each) 1x Archer fish (4") 2X Bristlenose Catfish (m 5", f 3") 1x Siamese Tiger (3") 1x Red tail shark (3") 1x Moonlight Gourami (5") 1x Snakeskin Gourami (7") 1x Giant Gourami (osphronemus goramy) (5") I was just wondering are any of you members of any other fish sites eg aquariacentral.com or arofanatics.com

and by the way warren, how fast do they grow if they are fed well?

I have been trying to feed him frozen bloodworms and cichlid tucker(made by biosupplies) with no luck so far. Currently he is only 3", but I saw him 'yawn' yesterday and his mouth opens out into a drawbridge! I would say already he would be able to eat a fish larger than 1".
