  1. What you need is a couple of 400w lights on that tank to keep it warm! At least heating the tanks inside also helps heat the room.
  2. If that doesn't work or you get sick of mouth fulls of water put a bucket beside the empty filter, suck on the output hose until you hear water start to run into the filter, put the output hose into the bucket and wait for the water to flow out, once it does give the filter a shake to get the bubbles out, turn off the taps, put the output back in the tank and your good to go.
  3. Nah its the next one very, with all the car yards. Kent terrace?? Just up from wellington motorcycles.
  4. You guys need to up size and save some money! Fewer, bigger tanks must be the way to go. My tanks about 800liter and has 800w of light going most of the day, 400w of pumps going 24/7 and the total power bill is well under $200 a month. And people say marine tanks are expensive!
  5. Yeah it's a resin called Cuprisorb, unfortunately the copper has to go into your water column (and inverts corals etc) to get removed by the resin
  6. I wouldn't use anything at all from a tank that had had copper treatment, not even the tank.
  7. Tank looks good! That round coral (fungia) that looks a bit like a fat disc should be on the sand, they are low light and like to sit flat.
  8. How is banning it from buildings giving you control if you DO want to smoke?? You cannot smoke in a building therefore you have NO control over whether you are exposed, you just aren't. Don't get me wrong, I remember the days of working in an office full of smoke and it was crap even for a smoker. When they first started banning smoking it used to be than you could have smoking rooms and you could smoke in the work place if EVERY ONE agreed, we had one older lady that didn't want smoking so it stopped, fair enough, we couldn't even smoke on night shift hours after she had gone in case she could still smell it in the morning. But when they blanket banned it from buildings it became a nanny state and stupid, we had a smokers room, in the basement, 3-4 doors between it and any living thing, it was a disgusting stinky place but at least you could sit and work while you smoked, it didn't hurt anyone accept the smokers that chose to be in there and you didn't have to stand on the street making the place look bad and catching colds from the rain.
  9. I have boxes of them sitting in my cupboard, used them for a day then forgot to put the next days one on and realised they didn't do jack. What gets me is the constant reminders every where, I think smokers know now that they can't smoke on plane's. I think non-smokers just love to rub it in. When they banned smacking did they put signs up everywhere, "smack free building" ?? "Welcome to flight acb123, this is a non-smacking flight..."
  10. I'm with you. The government wants it both ways, making it hard on smokers but still collecting the tax. I smoked for 20 years, stopped Feb of this year. I think that the Government should either butt out or only chemists should be allowed to sell them with a doctors prescription confirming your an addict. The constant tax increases are stupid, they just make smokers poorer, causing them more stress, inceasing the amount they smoke.
  11. pH is a little low but don't worry about it, it's likely to be from to much CO2 in the air, either from a gas heater or just having the room closed up with people breathing. Unless you can get more fresh air in there, you are better off not trying to fix it, stability is the key, not spot on correct numbers. You will soon be wishing you had less coralline algae, once you start having to scrap it off the glass, just give it time. Calcium get too high?? Do you mean Mg?? It's very difficult to get calcium too high. I guess having MG too high causes problems at some stage but I know of people that keep their Mg at 2000+ppm.
  12. I glued, tested, and had a tank leak 4 times before I realised I was using neutral cute silicon. It worked the first time using the good stuff. If you put a bead of each type on glass let them dry and try pulling them off you will soon see the difference.
  13. Your Ca and KH are great. You should get an MG test kit but don't rush out to get one, if your MG was low you would find a lot of problems keeping your Calcium that high. Since you are adding MG it is most likely quite high, this isn't a big problem, you can go a lot higher than recommended with out problems. It is something that isn't used very quickly by the tank, I only dose every few months. I just checked my records and I last dosed at the start of April (up to 1500) the last test I did (couple of weeks ago) it was sitting at 1425. Natural sea water sits between 1300 and 1500. BTW when I add Mg I do it by the beer jug full, there is a lot of it in sea water, almost as much as salt.
  14. You need to start testing your Calcium, Alkalinity, and Magnesium. Other than temp and salinity these are the only tests you need to do, but you MUST do them. You shouldn't add anything to the tank that you aren't testing for, and there should be no need to add Iodide or vitamin (what ever that is???) Kalk water (lime) is very easy to do and if you have a low coral (calcium) load it should remove your need to use the reef complete (if you even need to be using it, because water changes could be taking care of your ca/kh needs). To use Kalk, you just mix it with your top up fresh water, wait for it to settle and top up as usual. I have a 60liter rubbish bin I fill with fresh water each week or so and pump into the tank for top up, I put in a cup or two of kalk each month or two and have small pump in there that comes on for 15 minutes a few hours before top ups start to mix the kalk with the water.
  15. Am I missing something? IMO you are better off using something hollow to attach the coral rock to so you get better water movement through it, plus offer hiding places for fish. You can also use it to hid plumbing, heater etc. What about getting some egg crate and using cable ties to make the shape you want then cable tie the coral to it.
  16. No you can't, unless it is a very large tank.
  17. Also don't under estimate the cost of the plumbing. Why not run seperate tanks, heat the whole room, get a big mother air pump and run a DIY sponge filter in each tank
  18. I used to buy (and support) quite a few laptops (30-40 or more a year). To me the choice is Dell or HP, and it all comes down to service, pretty much most of the parts users are of the same quality from the same factories (accept the really cheap brands acer asus etc that are the same parts but the bad quality ones). Dell and HP would allow me to replace parts myself without voiding warranty and have them to me same or next day, if they did the repair it was usually next day. The only time a had a run of poor failures (with desktops) it was hard drives after the first couple failed and I tested a couple more and found they were out of spec, Dell supplied me with a box of hard drives so I didn't have to wait for them. At one stage I was getting a 1 in 6 failure of IBM hardware out of the box ie unpack, plug in, no go. I'd never by PC's or laptops off them again.
  19. Gave it a go but it I couldn't copy the Pic which had the circiut diagram. but here is the code for it. Hope he doesn't mind me posting this, guess he'll send the boy's round if he does.
  20. I've been looking at the PICAXE controllers as well. I even downloaded some software and had a play writing some code, the simulaters are good so you don't need controller itself to try it out. Have a look at this, it's basic temperature controller for fans. http://www.masa.asn.au/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=188259 All of the stuff you get in the starter kits you can buy seperately, down load, or make for less than the kits cost.
  21. Your tank is to small for a yellow tang. All tangs are swimmers and require 4 foot plus lenth of tank to be happy.
  22. That service sucks, the least they could have done is ring you. Personally I think giving them twice the time they said would have been fair but generous, they are up to three times now, if you were in business they would be costing you money. Go some where else. Try a landscaper or plant shop, it will probably cost you half as much as well.
  23. Wouldn't the risk always be there if there are wild rabbits about? Why didn't you just get your rabbits immunized? Ours is and and we live in the middle of suburbia
  24. Trying really hard to stop grinning before 'someone" see me
  25. Nah think you have just been lucky, a lot of my friends have had similar experiences, mostly with audio equipment and cameras. I guess it's probably no worse than other middle of the road equipment but you pay a premium for it cause of the Sony badge.
