  1. As the title says, it's been a while so I'm going to need some help. Tank is a 200L tank, I'm planning to make it a tropical community tank starting with guppies so the kids can get excited about it too. I know that I'll need substrate and lots of plants for it so looking for any and all advice that anyone can give. Saw this video about the broke-as aquarium (which basically reflects my wallet once this is done) and it recommended garden soil, baked to kill off organisms in the soil and then used as substrate with gravel on top. Yes/No anyone? Thanks!
  2. hot dang caryl, that's a beautiful tank.
  3. Hey all, Looking to start a tropical tank with the excuse to the mrs that it's for the kids but she knows it's really for me haha. Wanting to see if there are any breeders in West Auckland that won't mind me popping over to see what they have and sparing a few to start up my tank. Thanks all!
  4. Still a little new to all this so not sure if there's any rivers around here that I can just pick some oxygen weeds from. Thinking about getting ambulia for the pond but since it's outdoors and ambulia is tropical, does it matter much to them?
  5. You're right! Totally forgot about that. Perhaps ramshorn is a better alternative?

  7. Hey all, Was a member of this forum ages ago but didn't have space for an aquarium back then. Have recently moved into a house with a small pond and the filter / pump isn't working. Pond has 4 goldfish in it and lots of algae. I'm trying to create a balanced ecosystem in the pond so need to get some oxygenators, duckweed and malayan snails. Anyone around West Akld selling or have so much that they're willing to spare some? Thanks in advance.
