  1. Thanks Alanmin, great advice as usual. I've done the research and figured with everything I have to do, the maintenance of tubifex might be a bit more than I can handle right now. So opted to go with either Grindals or Whiteworms. Know anyone that might have a culture to spare?
  2. Sweet, time to do some research. Was looking into grindal worms too so if anyone has that, please let me know ta!
  3. thanks alamin. Haven't done much research into them but I heard the culture can be stinky. True?
  4. Does anyone have grindal worms in Auckland by any chance? Happy to swap a microworm culture for it. Thanks!
  5. I know this post is literally half the age of my oldest boy but does anyone still culture bloodworms? Or did anyone actually start a culture up here in Auckland?

OCD beautiful setup mate. When the Vals are a bit more mature, I'm gonna be calling on you for some =D. Let me know if you need a starter culture of microworms.
  7. That... is a scary plec... lol. In saying that, feather plecs IMO are really nice
  8. OMG Ira, your pleco is a monster! My tank is full of small guppies though. Will have a look into that Chelle, thanks!
  9. Hey guys, I've got a 90cm, 200l tank and am thinking of getting a wavemaker for it because I've noticed some of my guppies going up and down the tank close to the airstone. Either these fish are adrenaline junkies or I'm not providing enough water movement. I currently have a canister filter using sprinklers and a 400l/hr airpump with 2 airstones. I asked the vendor about this wavemaker - http://www.trademe.co.nz/a.aspx?id=1020974506 but am a little concerned about the 3000l/hr horsepower on this pump. I'm thinking of putting it near a large piece of driftwood that has a flat surface and it's where a lot of food gets stuck after feeding. What do you guys think? Is this a yay or nay idea? Thanks!

    Welcome fellow westie!!!
  11. I move to change the topic here to "Photos of JaSa's guppies"... Gosh they look magnificent!!!
  12. Get guppies in there to nom them up =p but yes def looks like hair algae.
  13. Thanks for that livingart, from the pictures I THINK it might be a mayfly larvae... what do I do with it? Tried feeding my fish mosquitoe larvae in the past and ended up with mosquitoes in the living room. Wife was not pleased... not at all....
  14. So I was clearing up some duckweed in my pond and putting them in a shallow container coz I didn't want to accidentally throw away fish fry (found that there were some last time). To my amazement I did find some but what was even stranger was this creature... Don't have a photo of it coz it's quite hard to see but this is how I'd describe it. It looks like it has feelers on it's mouth, like a hydra head, legs that spread out from underneath like a shrimp when it's resting on a rock and if I'm correct 3 spines at it's tail end. Almost reminded me of a scorpion with it's longish tail. Anyone have any idea what this might be? Thanks!
  15. Wanting to get a family of Kuhli Loaches for my tropical tank. Currently have guppies in it but my boys are quite taken by the long bodies of eels ever since we brought them to Kelly Tarlton so thinking of getting Kuhli's as a substitute. Preferably in West Auckland if possible, makes it easier to pick up but will travel Auckland wide. Alternatively, there's a shop in Waikato selling them and I'm happy to contribute a little to gas money if someone is coming up to Auck from Morrinsville. Thanks!
  16. Anyone has Corys needing a new home? Thanks
  17. Hey Alex, that's fine. I was actually trying to help someone but it's sorted now. Thanks again
  18. Ok will try it again. Thanks guys. Alex, what's a DIY calibration solution?
  19. As the title suggests, looking for someone with duckweed in NP.
  20. Coming from Caryl's aquarium, must be Only issue is I bought a bunch of other plants and ended up with ramshorns in my tank now haha... makes it look a little more natural I guess. Also my tank seems to have a greenish hue to it. Don't know if it's algae or just due to the plants. I'm gonna say it's the plants coz it's so awesome and superior huh Caryl? =p
  21. yeah my water test kit is brand new, always rinse out the test tubes after each test. I'm thinking Adrienne probably has the right idea. I know guppies have a small bioload and considering its a heavily planted 200L with about 20 guppies, majority are still babies, I'm assuming this must be it. Thanks team. Also I haven't done a massive water change, most is 20% and that was done last week.
  22. So I've got my planted tank running for about a month now, have some guppies in there swimming around happily, especially when I overfeed them sometimes... Haven't done a water test in a while but last I checked I had high nitrite and nitrate. Today, when I did my water test, I had no ammonia, no nitrite and no nitrate... like it was at the lowest end of the scale. Is this even possible? Should I be worried? Lol Thanks in advance
  23. Would be keen to know if you find some as those are the same ones that I'm looking for too. Potentially add in MTS if anyone has them.
