  1. Your Tanks a stunner Reef, and better in person. Gives me personally a goal to aim for......
  2. Pies, checked on seame, but they don't seem to offer neptune brand.
  3. The AC 2 is what I was looking at with ph and temp probes. Thanks Pies, I'll check that site and le you know the final price. I thought of hardwired but don't they make them 240v?. Have you looked at this. I think I'd like to try the x-10. Thanks for everyones input, I'll let you know how I get on. Shawn
  4. you know what I mean  theres so many zeos out there...............
  5. Thanks Pies, you tend to make sense to me. Reef, thats for your experience, I'll mull on it, but I would like a controller, am not interested in the IKS, so whats left. JetskilessSteve, you know how I feel, but at least so far we have keep zeovit out of the thread
  6. well thats sort of put a damper on that little bit of excitment.... Thought a unit that someone like Steve Weast must have something going for it.
  7. I figured about $625 NZ for the aquacontroller 2 (230v) unit backilt including temp and lab grade ph probe, and alarm module. Plus frieght (plus GST - not sure). Then buy the 230v x-10 modules from Aust at $76A for the interface and $34 per module. Doesn't seem too bad, but not sure what freight will cost from the states.
  8. yes and unfortunately almost the same.
  9. Thanks reef, There are good reviews about them elsewhere. Was it just the X-10 components or other problems. My tanks in my shed so it wont interfere with anything.
  10. yes unfortunately, the $450 power bill last month sort of gave it away!!!!
  11. Anyone had any experience with these. I am looking at getting one if I can source the X-10 components compatable with 230v.
  12. Ouch, no wonder our power bill is up there, and thats without the air conditioner keeping the atnk cool during the day!!! Total Watts used: 1860 watts Watts per annum: 35040 hours per year Kilowatt hours used: 35.04 kw/hrs Lighting: $868.44 per year (5263.3 kw/hrs) Pumps: $260.17 per year (1576.8 kw/hrs) Filtration: $0 per year (0 kw/hrs) Heating: $361.35 per year (2190 kw/hrs) Other appliances: $72.27 per year (438 kw/hrs) TOTAL: $1562.23

    Seio bashers

yes Alois, the 620's do put out a flow, its not comparable to my tunze's (tunzi?? ) but nor is the price. You get what what you pay for, but everything helps create the chaotic flow needed for sps.

  18. pies, the GBR extends to cape York, surely coral must grow in areas and islands along the nth coast??
  19. maybe there are other areas outside the protected GBR area they can extract from....
  20. or aquacultured. The hammer and the sps looked wild grown.
  21. hi all, Just got back from business in Brisbane and manged to look at 3 or 4 shops that stocked marines. One wholesale/retail place in particular would have been the best to visit but we drove out miles into the suburbs only to find he was in the middle of setting up new premises, 400m up the road. He showed us around and its going to be something, 100,000 litres of salt tanks split between inverts, and fish. The 3 other shops i visited varied in quality, one being a large general pet store with marines. Mostly soft corals available, with some great sponges etc that we dont see. The other 2 shops were aquarium shops, and had some nice stock in. Much the same fish that we have available but with gorgeous lion fish for sale in all the shops for around $55. Corals were good quality and very cheap e.g. a basketball sized hammer coral (no kidding) selling for $88. Gratefruit sized Acros for between $50-$70. Soft corals ranged between $26 - $46. Fish were very cheap. All damsels (blue, yellow tailed blue, domino, chromis) were $6 - $9 each. Clowns ranged from $14 -$25, tangs, lionfish foxface, aroung the $50- 60 mark, Regal angels for $75. Equipment type and prices were all on par with NZ. So it's just the livestock that they really have an edge on. There were another 7 or 8 shops that sold marines as well.

Stream is a type of pump, not a brand. Stream pumps give a broad low pressure flow designed to add current to a tank. The ehiem (one of the best brands) type pumps have narrow high pressure flow and are designed for returns, closed loops, supplying equipment etc.
  23. Its a very common shrimp obviously all around the NZ coast. Murawai beach has loads of then under most boulders at low tide. I used to have dozens of them in my cold water tank.
  24. I just set a reactor up, and my ph did drop from 8.4 down to 8.0-8.2, and seems to have stabilised at 8.1. I have a solenoid valve, that is timed to stop co2 at night (as does jetski - not just beginners eh!) not so much for ph but at the moment I really don't need more calcium or kh that goes into the tank over 12hrs. Calcium on the tests i did yesterday was 480, and kh 11.8.
