   ROTFL !! Well you certainly know how to present your case!
-
Phone number is 479 5446. Call anytime after 10.00 am anyday, we'll set it up. Really, once I got the Hanna I was able to fine tune dosing etc. exactly, every zeovit user should have one. BTW Layton I actually agree with much of what you said.
-
Didn't read his seminal letter, but in any case I'm not going to argue with Dr. King. However the blatant racism and anti-reformism that were a feature of the American South in those days, are a different kettle of fish to trying to avoid laws relating to the keeping of banned and venemous species. To me that is no different to arguing you can drive through a red light if you wish, because if you get killed that's your problem noone elses. Such arguments ignore the fact that these laws are designed for the benefit of society as a whole.
-
Kind of surprised you guys all seem to hold respect for the law in such low esteem. I suspect there is an element of overly indulged & spoiled rotten rich kid syndrome at work here. For a student of the law to say it is all written by dimwits is astonishing. It is revised by caselaw as a refinement process, this is a good thing, not a bad thing. Wether or not it is written by dimwits, if nobody obeys it our society could not exist. We vote for our government. They say that in a democracy, the people get the government they deserve, and they deserve the government they get. In our society, there will be a percentage of people who will never knowingly break any law. Then, at the other end of the spectrum will be a likely equal percentage of people who will always break the law. Then there will be the rest of us spread across the middle at various points. But for society to remain stable the greater majority must have general respect for the law.

Also, we really need to track progress to see if things are getting better, or worse, as changes are made. To do this accurate phosphate testing is needed. I have a Hanna phosphate colorimeter is there any way you could get water to me on the North Shore for testing? Normal kits from the LFS will not cut the mustard at the levels we are interested in.
-
Pies is correct, phosphate will be too high, otherwise excess hair algae growth cannot happen. Duke please answer the following What zeovit products are you dosing and how much of each? How much zeo rock are you using & how often do you change it? How much flow through your zeovit reactor, and is it on 3 hours, off 3 hours? You say the tank is "filtered". What do you mean? Do you have BB, sandbed, or DSB? What do you actually feed the fish? What skimmer are you using? BTW, don't sweat, with the zeovit system done right hair algae will cease to be a problem. The first aim of the system is nutrient reduction, and when this is achieved algae problems are over. My current tank had hair over all the rocks, the overall effect of the whole tank was green. By using zeovit I was able to change a slowly worsening nightmare into a clean tank in only a few weeks. Be great if me and other users can work through this with you and get it sorted.

Well what I do is wash out all the small stuff that is too small for the fish to eat, then spread the rest out in a very thin layer on gladwrap and freeze. Creates a thin piece of frozen food that can easily be broken off to get a piece for feeding. I guess the gelatin would work if the idea is to get all the fine stuff bound together so the fish can eat it. Just I'm not comfortable with putting that in the tank. However, if Fenner recommends it, which I didn't know, it must be OK. But what I prefer to do is not use a blender, but instead freeze the food & then grate with a cheese grater. This produces all bite sized pieces, no fine stuff too small to eat, and if done quickly enough can be put back in the deep freeze before it thaws, so it's in a loose form that is easy to take the right amount for daily feeding.
-
Yes, avoid the gelatin. Sorry about that it's a bummer when a plan gets shot down but your better without it.

Well some laws I don't agree with. But they have to be obeyed because if everyone decided wether or not they agreed with & obeyed each law then there's no point having any laws. So in a democracy we sacrifice some of our freedom for the general good, it has to be that way. In a police state run by a brutal dictator, the laws are made with a different rational and the breaking of them may be justified. I was raised in an environement where the police were considered the enemy, and treated that way. It was not until I was in my late 20's the realisation came the law, and for that matter the police, is actually there to help us, albeit the system is designed by humans with all their faults. For me life got a lot less stressful and even quite good, once I had a paradigm shift in my own attitude.
-
Well me I've now developed a very clever foolproof way to get around all those problems! SSHHH! Here it is - Now that I know the law, I abide by it. Saves having to gesticulate with a finger or whatever other problems people find themselves having.

Feelers your at Uni right? You may need to get out of the classroom a little more!  My job takes me into Auckland City every night. I always get a laugh from seeing those drunk and arrogant students who think they know more than the cops get their butts kicked while being thrown into the paddy wagon. Making a fuss don't really help them. Not you of course my friend But I can tell you I know this from experience I had some banned fish ( rudd ) removed from my place, the kids had been keeping them & giving them away. I honestly had no idea they were illegal to keep I had to lick butt I don't even like thinking about it.
-
Would be a culture shock dude, but in the end I'm sure she'll adapt to driving in your "beast"
-
Not in this case. It's illegal, they can take it. And the size of the optional fine may surprise you. That's optional as in it's their option wether to impose it!
-
Good one feelers!   However, both you and the Remuera blonde are trying to do the same thing - make a statement about oneself, or be different. If I had to choose between though, not sure which way I'd go!
-
Before you all collapse laughing, Reef did mention a case where the authorities turned up and removed somebodies lionfish. "Man who talk too much may later wish he could eat his words" ( adapted from ancient saying )

Most pumps can be noisy, my laguna 5 is no exception. But how long have you had it running Slappers, sometimes they quieten down after a few months anyway. But the other thing, as you said, is how it is sitting. If it's touching glass they can make a lot of noise, amazing how sometimes a pump can quiet just by moving it.
-
Nice healthy looking tang, a perfect specimen!
-
Well it seems I could afford the buckets. Just not sure if I can afford the 4wd with 8 speakers, fridge/freezer, wine cabinet and tv set, that you need in order to transport these buckets
-
I'm an Aucklander but I will agree with that sentiment, I do wonder how some people think when I see a 40 something blond bob Remuera woman driving in some humvee looking thing, some of them got all the gears too, everything except the mudgrip tyres of course.
-
The turbo 1000 and deltec 600 are both good skimmers, thanks to their needlewheel technology. I also have an Aqua C remora pro HOB, it's OKish, but not as good as the other two. No other HOB that I know of is worth messing with, unless it's a case of can't afford the good one and anything at all is better than nothing.
-
No it's fresh water, please feel free to start in fresh water should you wish. But hey lets face it - Salts where the action is!
-
For softies, and likely an octopus, anything over 10 x flow is enough provided there are no dead spots.
-
Tell me and we'll both know. I discussed zeovit, but in much more polite terms than has happened on this board. They purged heaps of zeovit users and my number must have come up. I asked others to search my last few posts and see what my crime was, but noone could find anything. But who cares. Just set up a new user name. No worries   BTW I've got 80 x flow
-
My guess is it's a beaurocratic coincidence. Somebody decided they should be protected but permit issued for existing stock perhaps. Turns out only one guy qualifies for a breeders exporters licence, and bingo - charge what you like. As stated they are ugly suckers, it will be so some millionaire can impress his guests by quoting what he paid for it.
-
Yes here it is, if you have a spare US $100,000.00, you can buy "Snowy" here - http://www.ceratodus.com/special.html His less rare cuzzies are just a mere US $10,000.00, for the not so well off aquarist. Just shows what a govt. created monopoly can do. Now if I could just get some breeding stock and a permit!
