    wormy things

My 2' tank has been a bit neglected lately and today when I did a water change and vacuum I was sucking up a lot of tiny little worms from the gravel. They were a reddish colour and looked like bloodworms. The tank has a UG filter. Should I a) Panic? b) Stop feeding for a while? c) Keep feeding but do lots of vacuuming? d) Get some Kuhli Loaches to burrow in the gravel? e) Ignore it? Cheers Jude
  2. Hi and welcome Richelle You are right, this is the best place to find out things and get questions answered. Beware though, its also a good place for catching MTS (Multiple Tank Syndrome)   Cheers Jude

    *sigh*

send the parents to me - they might teach my ones what to do    Cheers Jude
  4. One of my gold 3 spot gouramies has done that and it seems perfectly happy. First its fins darkened then its body went darker, almost like black stripes on it. The other one has stayed the same colour. I presume its age because its behavour hasn't changed and its been this way for a couple of months now Cheers Jude
  5. Mine didn't seem to do it at the same time but later on they were all pretty grungy looking. I've switched to cardinals now and they are much nicer Cheers Jude

    Tiger Barbs and?

Cool idea but I can't see it working in Wellington temps. Last week I was wearing a tee shirt and today I am considering digging out the thermals ...........   Cheers Jude
  7. Oh Wow - they look totally amazing. They've grown amazingly. Hope you plan to sell some when they get old enough Cheers Jude

    Water bridge

Sounds cool to me - and I like the idea of the flexible bits at the end. I guess more knowledgeable people will be able to let you know if it could work. Cheers Jude
  9. I agree with Caryl, my neons went pale and patchy as they got older. They also got mishapen and generally unhealthy looking. I think the same thing is happening to me     Cheers Jude
  10. Welcome limegirl, its a great forum and very helpful. Nice to have you with us Cheers Jude
  11. Hi Caper Joining another forum online wouldn't mean you had to leave here, it would just mean you found even more friends And we don't want you to leave, as Bill says, you are part of the family. As soon as you are ready to try plants I'd suggest you take up Blue's offer. Cheers Jude

    Black Sand

You've gotta be joking Werner - there must be a story attached to that - I wanna hear it ................. LOL The worst thing I've even seen people doing to roads was burning the tar off - great huge clouds of black, probably toxic, smoke through the Lewis Pass. And guess who got stuck behind a petrol tanker that refused to drive past it.    Cheers Jude

    He's alive!!!

Then you have nothing to worry about - he'll find it hard to hide once he's that big    Cheers Jude
  14. I tied sinkers to a piece of wood. The sinkers aren't visible as they are covered with gravel and the wood is nice and stable. I drilled holes in the wood to give me something to tie the sinkers to. You could also weight the wood down with rocks until it stays submerged by itself Cheers Judy
  15. I think its a safe bet to say that the snail population and appetites will outgrow the plants ...........   Cheers Jude
  16. I'm not sure about adding convicts to that mix - I thought they would be too agresssive. What sort of tetras are you thinking of? Cheers Jude
  17. Heavily planted tank full of tiger barbs Cheers Jude

    What a dilemma!

My (at times overstocked) 2' tank runs on an ug filter and it seems to be doing a great job - water stays clear, fish are all happy and healthy and the plants do ok as well. They grow a little more slowly but they still grow I just wish I could find an airpump that was quieter Cheers Jude
  19. I've recently rearranged and replanted my tanks. Since then I've noticed a lot of litter on the surface. I know some of this is probably because of damaged leaves and stems due to the moving around but it doesn't seem to be stopping. Could they be lacking in some nutrient? There is an aquatic clay base and I dose with a little chelated iron most days. Any suggestions anyone? Cheers Jude
  20. Yep, I do. But usually I manage to control myself     Mainly because I know I will never achieve exactly the effect I want, and also because I am lazy !!!!!!!! Cheers Jude
  21. It does stress the fish a bit but they seem to cope ok. I recently redid my larger tank and I did it in stages to allow the fish to settle. I doubt they can remember anyway so each time it will be "new"   Cheers Jude
  22. Hi deejay and welcome. I am now totally confused. Didn't we have a deejay already? Was it that deejay who moved to australia recently? Is deejay01 the same person, now in aussie?  Or was that deevius? Oh dear, the poor old brain isn't coping well this morning. Welcome deejay whoever you are      Sounds like with all those tanks you will be in the position to offer as well as ask for help Cheers Jude
