    Glass thickness???

Glasstec in chch has starfire 10mm glass for around $330m2. I would use 10mm sides and 12mm base. The thicker glass will cost you more as you have found out, but will have a higher saftey factor. One option could be finding offcuts from glass companys as you will get a better rate. I have got large pieces this way before for a great price. I can drill holes for you if you like. (i don't break the glass that offen )
  3. This is a email sent to me from the Christchurch City Council On Wed 3rd November 2004. Thought it may be of interest. It shows the ave of the water quality in Christchurch Hi Tim, Water data as requested: Also, the water at your Beckenham site is likely to have a variable pH due to variable water sources, aeration times etc. but typically this will be an average of 7 - 8. Phosphate <0.05ppm Reactive silica is 16ppm At Stanmore Road the phosphate level is <0.05ppm Reactive silica is 20ppm pH is 7.8 Hope this helps, Regards, Gareth Phillips A typical average analysis of Christchurch Water pH: 7.8 pH after aeration: 8.2 g/m3 Acidity to pH 8.3 (as CO3): 1 g/m3 Total Alkalinity to pH 4.5 as HCO3: 52 g/m3 Turbidity (TU): Less than 1 Nitrate Nitrogen: 1 g/m3 Sulphate: 5.0 g/m3 Chloride: 5.0 g/m3 Calcium: 2.0 g/m3 Fluoride: Less than 0.1 g/m3 Magnesium: 1.5 g/m3 Potassium: 1.0 g/m3 Sodium: 6.1 g/m3 Reactive Silica (as SO2): 16.0 g/m3 Total Hardness (as CaCO3): 45 g/m3 Conductivity at 20ûC (ms/m): 10
  4. You have phosphate in all foods. The reason why you need to rinse your food is to get rid of the excess phosphates and other bits of bad stuff. It just means you are not putting as much crap into your tank...

    Rotifers

Saddle back clown. Cool looking fish, they can get up to about 11-13cm There are place around NZ that have cultures. They use them mainly for seahorses and finfish
  7. yeah i would say some type of tubestrae (sp) sun coral. I thought they were either orange or black.
  8. Does this lady work at animates? you will find that you may need a chiller thru summer. how big is the aquarium
  9. I think dog kennels would not work as they are too high. The option i would go for would be to make one out of perspex. You can drill it cut and glue to whatever size you like and heat it and bend it so it slopes to one point (ie drain hole) I am sure you can pick up pieces cheap some place. the thickness for the base would only need to be about 6mm the sides would have to be 10mm otherwise they could warp! tim
  10. Thats dear.. in chch the blues go for about 13 and the golden go for 20. they can breed from about 2.5 - 3cm. You are better to get a few (4 They may have spawned in lbs tank but it doesn't mean to say they will in yours. get a group....
  11. The person involved got really really sick. There is no way this is a attempt to sell more gravel cleaners, they don't even sell them.

    jellybean tetras

Both these fish are not on the Import Health Standard For The Importation Into New Zealand Of Ornamental Fish.
  13. How i breed cardinals and rummy nose tetras! I think the key to breeding these fish is pair selection. At the moment i have 4 pairs of cardinals and 6 pairs of rummy nose. They get put down to breed every 3-4 days. I do this for about 2 - 3 weeks when i get the time. I get about 10 - 30 rummys out and 10 - 15 cardinals about every second time. I started with about 20 cardinals and rummys. sorted the pairs out into there own tanks, male in one female in the other. I have a large drum (100ltr) of water that has a c filter + a peat bag that the water flows thru. I will only use this water for breeding, and only when the water is really dark. The water that is in with the adults is standard tap water. I set up a heap of 14 x 7 x 7 tanks with wire mesh in the bottom. then add peat water a little! spawning moss place wood of plastic between the tanks put one pair of fish per tank if the fish are going to spawn they will do so in the morning on the first or second day If you get eggs make sure you know what pair spawned and keep them away from the other pairs...!!!!!!! this may help and you can use this system for most tetras
