  1. That's good to hear that you haven't lost all of them. They obvious prefer the cooler water.

  3. I am in the business (but I don't do heat pumps) and the brands that you should seriously consider would be Mitsubishi, Hitachi or Fujitsu. My two cents.
  4. Awesome! Tanks like this really bring back the passion for keeping fish
  5. I would try some landscaping firms, they may have some good ideas on how to do it. Or may be able to put you in contact with someone who specializes.
  6. - Does your water contain chlorine?* Yes - Do you use a dechlorinator?* Yes/Prime - Do you know where your water comes from, if so do you know the average levels (eg residual chlorine) in your water supply? Waitakere Dams and Waikato - no (EG. Mine comes from Ardmore and Waikato, and according to the 2013 Water Report their averages are, in mg/L, 1.10, 0.95 and 0.97) - How old is your tank? 3 years +or- - Does your use of dechlorinator change based on the "maturity" of the tank? No
  7. Just about to get some tadpoles, this thread has given me some great ideas :bggrn:

  11. Called in at snow planet today on my way passed and grabbed a box full of alder cones :bggrn:
  12. Today I went to Kelly Tarltons for work. While I was waiting for a tank to empty so I could work on the chiller the guy asked me if I would like to shake hands with the octopus. So we went over to his tank and the guy put his hand in the water and it reached out and touched his hand. Then I had a go it was surreal it just reached out and touched my fingers and it wasn't just trying to grab my hand as if it was food. AWESOME :happy1:
  13. I will have to try it with all pieces
  14. I was out at Kawakawa Bay today for work and I stopped at the beach and found some feature pieces of driftwood. Pretty happy with both but can't decide which one to use :dno: First photo is two pieces. http://s48.photobucket.com/user/Michael ... d.jpg.html http://s48.photobucket.com/user/Michael ... 6.jpg.html
  15. I have an Eheim professional 2028 and with lighting I was thinking something simple, because I won't be growing any plants under the surface. I quite like the idea of spot light type of thing
  16. I am thinking this for stock 4 Angelfish 10 lemon tetra 10 black widow Tetra 10 Rummynose Tetra 6 Sterbai Cory 2 Bristlenose pleco
  17. What type are your angelfish David? After you suggested them for my tank I think they would make a great feature fish.
  18. I have been looking into the rooibos tea idea and it seems to be really popular on a lot of forums. It has a lot of good things in it which help keep your fish healthy, will darken your tank to a nice tea colour, doesn't seem to affect ph too much, and will also help combat algae! I wonder if this is because the water doesn't allow as much light through so the algae can't grow.
  19. I googled hatchet fish and thought WTF! Of course the first pic was the marine type. I'm starting to like the idea of angels, Hatchet fish not so much. Angels would make a good feature fish.
  20. Sorry to hear that Ira, how many did you have in the tank? I am quickly realizing that those cichlids are wrong for what I want to do. I have seen some blackwater extract products on the web, though I'm not sure if they are available in NZ.
