    My Geos

Latest update, excuse the water they have just been feed so they really stir the sand up. I am feeding only flake now and they seem to be fattening up, although one is quite a bit fatter than the rest I am not sure if I should be concerned as it is still eating well and not doing anything to alarm me. Note: might pay to turn the sound down as my Son is learning trombone.

    Help!!

Good news all of the Geos are doing well now all of the welts have gone down, water is better than before but still not perfect. The only thing I can put it down to is the wormer??

Did a test this morning ammonia seems to slightly lower, nitrites still at 0 or maybe just higher, Nitrates are still high but are below 40 now.

    Help!!

Tank is 480ltrs I will be doing water changes daily now that this is happening. Stock is 6 Geos 1 convict 7 small dither fish and a bristlenose. Largest Geo is close to 15cm and I will need to thin the heard once they are bigger. Tank has been running for almost two years no issues. Filter is Eheim classic 2 supposed to be good for 600ltrs.

    Help!!

I have 6 Geophagus Altifrons which have been happy and healthy but where looking a bit thin, so I did a water change as per normal last Saturday and thought I might do a treatment for worms just to be safe. Anyway tonight I come home from work and all of the Geos are doing weird shit all over the show, vibration, flashing on the sand and driftwood staying still on the bottom. Some also have some welts on their skin not sores but like a lump. I tested the water and found my water was 0.25 ammonia, 0 nitrites but nitrates are quite high like over 40. I have done another water change to try and sort the ammonia and nitrates. Other fish in the tank seem fine. One good thing is the fish aren't looking washed out and still showing colour. Would the worm treatment be something that could cause this?

Nothing yet, if it was going to happen what sort of time frame would you expect. These guys are under two years old.

  17. You have some awesome fish in there and the Geos are looking great. I know the feeling about wanting change, I always find myself looking at my Geos and thinking what else could I have instead.

    Update from today.
  22. Surprised the RCD didn't trip, but your fish won't get a shock because they aren't earthed.

Haven't been here for a while, Geos are growing well they are slowly getting more of the iridescent blue colouring and their fins are getting nice and long. I purchased mine from HFF Mt Roskil good quality fish haven't had and issues. I feed quite a variety of dry foods mainly sinking type, also frozen cichlid food and if they are around mosquito larvae (which they go mad for). I do slightly over feed them because they seem to sift constantly and food is always gone. Hovmoller, I think you were very lucky getting red/orange heads as I tried getting some after seeing yours, but apparently they aren't or weren't on the list. My tank is 480ltrs and I may have to thin numbers by a couple once they are full size.
