  1. I have LED's over 2 of my tanks, thinking about changing to them for my 200L tank too. Plants grow just fine under them, but I do notice the white leds lack colour... To overcome this l'll rig up some RGB leds to provide the additional colour range that the whites don't provide. Summer project I think.
  2. I thought the macaranda variety had broader leaves??
  3. The inline ones you find on trademe are the same as these: http://dx.com/s/co2 Dont know if they are anygood, but i would be willing to try them out. FYI: DX stuff takes about 2weeks before it arrives if you are going that avenue. This evening I setup a diy co2 for a 25L tank, and rangi'd up a reactor with a concoction of filter parts. Its not pretty, but it should do the same thing.
  4. Popped into HFF today and picked up some Zelandia grass/plant. Planted it in the tank, and pulled a whole lot of Hygrophila polysperma out to make room for it. EDIT: Heres a before photo from page1, 2 weeks ago to compare: So all that polysperma has had to go somewhere... weighted a couple of bunches until i ran out of lead. But now there's a nice dense mass of plants in the dark corner of the tank. Happy to sell it off if anybody wants it. Now to tidy up the rest of the tank and top it up.
  5. Wow this is cool, didn't even know powerheads with magnetic coupling were around. Perfect application for it!
  6. bloody awesome! I oughta put mine into thier own tank so they can do their thing in peace. Needa dump a load of male guppys in order for that to happen.
  7. Must be time for another photo then Looking good so far
  8. Wow that tank looks great! Definitely a great addition to an office... or anywhere for that matter. Look forward to seeing it progress
  9. Stop, drop and roll - Mareko
  10. You should be able to grow most plants under that. My tank is 55cm deep but still have 2 tubes and i manage to get my plants to grow. viewtopic.php?f=4&t=60520 What do you class as low maintenance? I trim some plants once a fortnight i guess.
  11. I have the trumpet snails too. At 1st I hated the fact I had snails in my tank. But it seems these guys are a pretty good snail to have.
  12. It would be nice if other emails were allowed. I used to be registered here many years back, but my account vanished so i never came back. And when i did had the email problem... Took me a good 10months to figure out I had an external email from university. There must be some way so genunine to-be users can be granted registration with gmail and the like. I know would if i could. Im certain my brother would also join up if the site allowed it. Maybe while signing up, maybe users need to upload an image of some sort of NZ identification?
  13. it was one of those peg baskets, i got bored andstuck it to the side and weaved a bit of moss into it. Not sure what im trying to acheive with it :slfg:
  14. ooh, mine are getting it on... In the front of the big tank for once!
  15. Plastic fish can be safely kept with live plants... seems legit
  16. Took a short(ish) video of my fishies.
  17. Tried that, thinking i may have to cover the bottom completely
  18. Bugger. I really wish mine would lay on a small stone so i can remove them all at once... Instead, they insist on digging a hole in the fine gravel. Better luck next time!
  19. :smln: weird... guess they didnt get their sample from HFF
  20. My tank has 2x t8 tubes. A daylight and a powerglo. Its at 55cm high tank, no CO2 and some root balls in the gravel. My xmas moss grow great in there, glosso also grows pretty good, but it keeps getting covered by my other plants so loses the light all the time. In your shallow tank you should have too many issues with light id say. With light, if you double the distance you get a quarter of the brightness i beleive. So essentially you would have about 4x the light of my tank... But feel free to prove me wrong
