  1. thats what i sort of did, i used a rotary tool to hone out the existing plumbing but for the life of me couldnt find a socket that would fit inside a 16mm piece of plumbing. i ended up taking a piece out of the inside of another piece of plumbing and tried using that. it sort of works but still leaks. if anyone know where i can get 16mm plumbing (or rather sockets that fit inside it) from let me know. already tried plastic systems who import a good deal of plumbing but they dont have anything.

    Vodka advice?

thats what i figured, the zeofood is basically the same as what vodka does. so double dosing might be worse i didnt even think about that til this morning so stopped. might help getting a quick boost though
  3. What level of Calcium is considered low, and what is considered bad or dangerous levels? (ie: between when sps can cope and when sps will die!) Any ideas? I obviously want to keep Ca within the boundaries but know its going to take a little while for my reactor to bring levels back up. Levels are still low (as above)

    Vodka advice?

i started dosing 1/2 a cap morning and night of vodka (5mls a day) in my tank. after doing so, realised perhaps its not a good idea when running with zeovit? or does it not matter?

    fines filter

i often wonder what else is in wool, felt etc when you source it from a furniture manufacturer or the likes, could it be contaminated with bad stuff and harm your tank?
  6. True. Jetskisteve was banned for his VW avatar (if you dont know why, there is no point going into detail) and comments afterwards. BTW he gave me verbal confirmation that I could post this because he says he receives several PM's a day from people requesting prices on various products. While he cannot continue in discussions on this site for 1 month, he did ask me if I could post his email address instead for those wanting to contact him. [email protected] I assume the above is not breaching the guidelines, simply passing on information. No point having his ban effect anyone else wanting to buy things from him?
  7. cant say, but im sure you can work it out
  8. ah nope, someone else has already been banned the thing that bugs me is it will be the mods discretion as to what is considered "too much", regardless of the guidelines. as feelers says, a bit of fun doesnt go astray but there is a very fine line between a bit of fun and going overboard also there is no emotion behind the 'written word' and therefore its quite often interpreted incorrectly. still, perhaps a good idea as there is some mildly abusive and general banter that goes on here

    waterchanges

there is no difference to emptying MORE water out and replacing with saltwater again. you MUST topup with freshwater and freshwater ONLY. otherwise salinity will go through the roof. you should also test the source of the saltwater prior and after adding it to the tank. for eg: NSW generally has a higher salinity so you should replace water you take out at water change time with replacement saltwater AND freshwater. makes RODI become more crucial.

    Vodka advice?

one capful would only be about 5ml max wouldnt it? at the recommended 1ml per 100 litres, shes underdosing
  12. Thanks TM, nice to know the theory has been proved in principal to work, and by the sounds of things (excuse the pun) works nice and quietly Got a pic?

yes, keep a log. 15% water changes every 3-4 weeks. brendan says 5% every 1-2 weeks is fine with zeovit. i dont think a larger water change will help. reef is most probably right about it being kH, as colours were starting to come along nicely until reactor crapped out and kH dropped to 4. it's now on 8 but ca and mg are on the lower end of the scale. nsw being the issue? now i know thats crap based on others that use nsw and their tanks. i will post the log tonight when i get home. i got a small whiteboard in the sump room that i keep a record of the last few months of changes. rowaphos and zeovit not preferred, but not a cause of colour loss. rowaphos was used to reduce what phosphates were currently in the water. zeovit stops nutrients at ammonia level i thought?

speaking of which, the lack of colours its starting to piss me off now. everything "bad" (phosphates, nitrates etc) tests as zero even at triple tests (granted, the salifert test kits still dont go low enough so still likely to be nutrients of some sort) i am figuring its the sand bed and so am considering going BB for a while to see if it helps. my gut instinct says sand bed (specifically from the fuge) but disturbing that means upsetting the critters living in the sand. the substrate is only 1" high in there. the tank only has 3 x 150W halides so more lighting would certainly help but i dont think that is the show stopper. lastly i realise the low figures i had for my water chemistry parameters (low ca, kh and mg) certainly would not help either. i did notice my acro's showing great signs of colouring until around the time the calcium reactor packed up on me and all these figures took a rapid decline. so i think the ups and downs in water chemistry have a big part to play as well as nutrients. i have seen other tanks with great colours and lesser lighting than mine (cookies!) i have everything required to provide low nutrients (good skimmer, zeovit, rowaphos, regular water changes) yet inadequate colours. any further suggestions to the above? im all ears

    got worms?

this dude came out from the rocks, and kept going, and kept going, and kept going... i'd estimate at least 10" long. he sneaked away before i had time to grab him and cook him up for the kids
  19. Mg 1140 Ca 300 kH is ok now on 8.0 but cant get the bloody calcium reactor working with a bung impeller.
  20. both are completely QUIET, not a sound. the pump that runs it is what you need to be silent - hard to find an ultra silent pump. Also depends on how you mount the pump. Mines sitting on 2 mouse pads which helps but it still drones under the floor boards Carpet is going in once rennovations are finished so that should help heaps!
  21. I run both Oceans Motions 4-way for the closed loop and Sea-swirl for return and DEFINATELY recommend BOTH products.
  22. C 1501: height: approx. 400 mm; diameter reactor tube: 110 mm; bottom-plate 160 mm; Filling up to 3 kg; Eheim pump power: 600 l/h; C 3001: height: approx. 710 mm; diameter reactor tube: 110 mm; bottom plate 160 mm; Filling up to 6 kg; Eheim pump power: 600 l/h C 4001: height: approx. 600 mm; diameter reactor tube: 160 mm; bottom plate 190 mm; Filling up to 10 kg; Eheim pump power 1200 l/h C 10001: height: approx. 1100 mm; diameter reactor tube: 160 mm; bottom plate 190 mm; Filling up to 20 kg; Eheim pump power 2400 l/h looks to be the case: mine is c3001 (710mm high, 110mm wide) yours c4001 (600mm high, 160mm wide) plus pump output is double the rate of mine very interesting!
