yes dont concern yourself with caleurpa for nitrate reduction, there are much better and more efficient means. get a bigger skimmer!

i agree. macro algae is a PITA IMO. i have the kind that sticks to LR and you can never get rid of it. the spores just keep growing. dont ever let this stuff get in your display tank. im slowly trying to remove as much macro algae as possible. if you do proceed with it, ensure you use carbon to cleanse the water. macro algae can tinge it yellow from what i've noticed. get a bigger skimmer

to be fair cracker you did cook all your rocks and nuke all that bad algae when you upgraded though so you set yourself up well from day one. im definately going to boil up a stew with my rocks mainly the ones in the middle full of crud! argh it's frustrating.

i got the same bubbles, but no signs of cyano (which looks similar to the photo's you have) my co2 rate is high too but its dripping straight onto the water surface which is exceptionally well aerated (where the sump, fuge and skimmer all enter the sump) so i dont think its c02. i get it mainly around the bottom of my streams and under the closed loop pipes. none on the rocks though and no stringy threads of slime which is typical of cyano. maybe just a minor case of it?

puttputt - you feed your AP902 via a separate pump? can you not gravity feed it? thats one less pump. aircon - dont aircon units suck heaps of power? swap the aircon unit with a chiller and everything else is similar to what i run, give or take a powerhead or so. doubt it would come on in winter though. i'd guesstimate heaters would be on quite a bit - assume that shed would get quite cold over winter

Cyano is my bet too. Bubbles are a good sign of cyano. Try the vodka as cracker suggests

sounds like you're getting charged too much for power puttputt, i have same lighting and a heap more devices that suck power than your tank (from what i can see) and mine works out about $100 - $130 a month, of that the lights use about $60 a month. so out of a $480 power bill, thats 1/4 of my usage approx. hot water is the biggest killer in our house. get a centameter - worth their weight in gold

the 3 biggest suckers of power (from monitoring the centameter) are oil heaters, the dryer and hot water. yes, oil heaters suck power!

got a cheque in the mail for $80 a few days later. no apology letter, just a cheque. now my only concern is forking over more money for a replacement filter in a couple of years time. im sure i'll be able to buy off the shelf and diy by then

are you trying to start an argument layton? no, the corals are generally lighter in appearance. not all of them are light coloured so they cant be bleached

Agree with TM here, water changes best (and easiest/most effective) for a small tank like this. Give it time. Forget about caleurpa.

I stopped using zeovit about a week ago. It certainly did the job, I just prefer the deeper colour's you get without it. You can get some very colourful corals with zeovit, I just find the corals too "light" coloured.
