  1. I also have a raised vege garden. We have tomatoes, cabbage, peas, silverbeet, lettuce, carrot, spring onion. Currently arguing with the o/h as I want some beans as well
  2. I like the last photo's showing how the plants have established themselves and everything has settled in. Stunning pond.
  3. No name on the rose sorry. We have fish now and a couple of extra plants. Have had the algae bloom and mostly go away.
  4. In addition to putting the pond in we've updated our garden. We've pulled out some ratty citrus trees and planted some roses . Then while I was at work a feijoa tree was removed and put the seat over by the fishpond along with a shade umbrella Fishpond pics The little fountain is purely a solar charged one so not going in this as panel in shade. Won't be powerful enough for a waterfall so will have to get another at some stage
  5. Race 6 tomorrow Girls Don't Cry. Hoping there has been a wee bit of moisture around She is working very well so fingers crossed.
  6. I don't know actually was there when we moved in. Will see if I can see a tag on it.
  7. Here are some photos. We were short by about two bags of pepples. Need a few more plants and then the fish
  8. Okay so I got the following Hippuris Vulgaris Rotala Macrandra Myriophyllum propinquum bacopa lenagera gratiola sexdentata Hmm think need to go look them up and find some common names lol
  9. The current horse is the last that we've bred. She's called Girls Don't Cry :gigl: So far has only had one start for a last :dunno: Did have some excuses but needs to improve a bit. Suspect she might need a wetter track so will look at it again after her next start. Will let you know if we get one. Planning on trying to get into a race at Te Aroha on the 18th (I think thats the right date)
  10. Thanks guys Had a mini splurge at lunch time and have purchased 5 oxygenating plants and a water lily Two I think from memory were native plants. Will list once have the tags out.
  11. Thanks for that If I top up with water from the tap will the chlorine worry? Was assuming that if just did small amounts it wouldn't but thought should check.
  12. Had the day of yesterday due to some sad reasons and needed to keep busy in parts so dug out the middle of the proposed pond. So now have a ledge all round the edge that is about 25cm deep and a rectangle in the middle that goes to approx 50cm deep. Put the liner in and water. With the water if I leave it for a few days before adding plants do I need to use a conditioner or dechlorinate in some way or will it be okay? I've been offered some free snails and wondered if this was a good idea or not? Also have an offer of some fish so that's good (goldfish though don't know what variety). Going to go to World of Water in Hamilton during lunch today to look at plants (also needing to find a creek/river where I can get some oxygen weed). In the weekend we are going to Te Aroha where we think is a stream that has rocks. Want to find some to make a fountain. Planning on getting one of the solar pumps off trademe. Given that these only seem to go during the day will that be enough with plants to oxygenate the water? Hadn't planned on getting a filter at this stage as no power option for the pond. Apart from the plants is there anything else I can do to help with water clarity without a filter?
  13. Decided should say a bit about myself We are in Cambridge having moved here from Te Aroha at the start of the year. Moved from a lifestyle block into a section in a subdivison so a bit of adjustment there. I work as a test engineer (software) to make money to pay for us to have a racehorse (would be better if the horses paid for me to not work but oh well). My partner is basically retired (partially due to an old leg injury), he looks after the horse and as a trainers license. When we moved one of our requirements was for a big section, kinda to soften the blow but also due to having a couple of dogs (though that is now down to one ) With my partner being a wee bit older there are quite a few grandkiddies who come to visit with their parents on occasion. Looking forward to being able to show them the fishpond. Also looking forward to being able to sit out by it and read on my Kindle. Well that's kinda me. Horse mad and a dog person (Rather than a cat one). Usually with a sense of humour but don't interupt me when I reading
  14. There is a ledge around the outside and a fence about 10cms away from one side of the fence so was thinking I could layer up some stones from the ledge up to the fence a bit. Won't get very high maybe only 30-50cm but would add something extra to it I think. Once we find some stones I can have a play anyway.
