  1. How many litres is the tank? It looks fairly small so adding more fish might be too much.
  2. I snowed for a short thin about 2:40 on symonds st at the uni.
  3. I was there a couple years ago, beautiful place.
  4. The theory of evolution is science fact just like the theory of gravity. There is no theory of creation, as it's not part of science.
  5. get them over and go through the processes you want them to do and get them to do it a few times before you leave. I went on a field trip for 5 days and came home to food all over the bottom, parents are good at over and under doing something.
  6. reptilez, you're tying to compare theology with Science. Scientists have found heaps considering how little is fossilised in between the divergence of human and apes. Squirt gave a good link for you to read http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_evolution. Mod's this thread is going to a place where it should be locked before it gets there.
  7. Long ( better gas exchange ) Crunch or Bang

  9. If you were to cross a Tuatara with another lizard and it had viable offspring you'd still lose Tuatara because you could never go back and breed out the other lizard. the Tuatara breeding program is quite successful and a lot of other species are doing we'll with a little bit of pest management. The north island Kokako is doing really well in Pureora and Fiordland. In the hauraki gulf they are having to move populations to other places because they are too successful. on human evolution, we split from apes ~4 million years ago and homo sapiens have been around 200,000 years but there is a lot of research happening which currently is saying that humans in africa are true homo sapiens, europeans are a mix of neanderthal and homo sapiens and in oceania/asia there is another mix again which I don't know much about.
  10. You can use driftwood, you have to soak it so it'll sink, which can take some time. A denser piece of wood will work better. It'll also take a while to sink, and during that time you'd need to change the water to remove tannins and anything else that has soaked out. The store was trying to get you to buy from them :an!gry
  11. shooting cats is likely to get you some criminal charges.
  12. There would be either a physical barrier preventing them breeding(land or not able to copulate), gamete incompatibility(gamete = egg and sperm), DNA incompatibility. a common ancestor a very long time ago probably between 300 and 150 million years ago.
  13. No, they'll most likely be sterile and it would be considered unethical to do. In fish it's a random occurrence, in reptiles it would be forced. Plumage is just the feathers in birds. Skin patterns in snakes would mean they are different species, undergoing divergence into new species or have sexual dimorphism.
  14. They are all still the same species, just different plumage. They only do this with mammals as far as I'm aware. hybridisation only happens because we have taken the animal out of it's natural habitat and put it in an environment where they can mix. Human have 99.8% similar DNA to chimps and ~70% similarity to a cabbage. stem cells are not used for cloning, gametes are. to clone you take a fertilised egg and remove the DNA and put the clone DNA in. As an atheist and someone who studies evolution, most people don't understand what evolution is, most people think it's just macro evolution. Micro evolution is what is really happening over a very long time. The best example is drug resistance in bacteria, you set out 100 agar dishes with colonies of E.coli, and let them replicate, then use an antibacterial to kill them, there is a good chance that one will survive and evolve into a new colony of resistant bacteria.
