  1. Injections of beaver hormones coupled with good quality food and water. I call it the "Armstrong"
  2. Not the easiest job. Think about the difficulty involved dealing with a snail invasion in a closed environment.
  3. Good to see Poret filter foam featuring in some large tank build threads. Looking good.
  4. Its officially a grow off. A 'keen as' group of us were given some baby cories to grow up. The idea is to bring the fish back after a few months and see the results. In truth I was almost fooled into taking home a bag containing only water. After a quick check and a dirty look I was given a bag containing these little guys. They`re going strong. Cheers again to the members of KMAC and Shayne for sponsoring the fish.
  5. For some plants I just had to lift them higher out of the water. The double stacked raft. Coriander was the trickiest to convince not to rot out.
  6. I have found great success with the raft method. Suspending the plants above the water level. I experienced a massive increase in root growth and great healthy growth. It was hard to find the balance between maintaining great water quality and providing enough nourishment for leafy greens. The nail in the coffin for the project was the proposed expenditure on the lighting. When we eventually build our fishroom from scratch aquaponics will feature heavily in the design.
  7. Check out the new fluval q2 retail is 99 i think.im really impressed with how quiet it is.
  8. Definitely over time every surface will be covered with beneficial bacteria. Nothing is better than a healthy water change regime. No water meters then?

Good work. Its great to see the thought, that you are putting into your tankscape. I like the raised right hand side, it reminds me of this bit of nature. Good work
  10. I would look at a 10ppi coarse sponge followed by a layer of 20ppi medium density. This blend offers a great mix of water clarity/maintenance schedule. For your biological media (siporax, ceramic noodles, Matrix etc) to remain effective it needs to be kept clean of biological buildup. This ensures the microscopic surface area of the media comes into contact with everything it needs to remain biologically effective. There are a multitude of biological media that thrive with a build up of biological matter. These however are not suited to canister filters. Good luck
  11. Cheers for that. Its good water qualities fault. Discus have just eaten there own batch of eggs. I think the demonic rams family attendance spooked them into the extra protein. Wish I could have gotten a photo of a 'two species spawning' The tank is about as nano as ill ever keep. The hundred liter is starting to feel cramped. Have a fantastic weekend fellow forumers.
  12. Our rams which are in our Amazon tank https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=443638549060724&set=a.365287343562512.84413.353101988114381&type=1&theater have raised fry to the free swimming stage. Its awesome to see them cruising around. I dont think they will last long with tankmates- Discus and Cardinal Tetras. Its really fun watching the interaction between the different species. I had forgotten how cool community aquariums are.
  13. Most definitely. I am after many years seriously questioning the use of NaCl as a water additive.
  14. The title says it all. Read more than once. Im still perusing it. http://www.tbas1.com...ngland%2011.pdf Enjoy
  15. "Fluval Seas" are pretty good.
  16. Good work mate. My little pair bred a few days ago and I was able to snap some photos. The boy ate up all the eggs but in all honesty he needed fattening up. You can see the translucent eggs just to the left of her. Her Good luck with yours
  17. Cheers for the reply. Not too perturbed about increasing syno production. Getting 15-20 per breeding. I just found it interesting that I was able to get cichlids and synos from the same female. She must feel the change and spit them out before they can mess with too many cichlid eggs. She is a champion. Never really been a fan of egg tumblers. I prefer the natural method. Do you notice variances in sizes in artificially hatched fry?
  18. Hey there R, Have you noticed any behavior of catfish inducing spawning in the cichlids by rubbing up against ventral region? I recently had a hap cichlid spit out 3 baby cats and ten days later spit out 12 cichlid fry.
  19. So for sometime now my partner and I have been playing with the idea of incorporating an aqua-ponics scheme that could work within our current hatchery setup. I love the concept that we end up with herbs and vegetables as a by-product of our fishkeeping. It has been a steep learning curve as most new ventures are. I am wrapped with results so far. We are experiencing great growth and massive increase of root mass. This week has been the first opportunity to sample some of the produce. They were some very powerful chillies. A wide shot of one of the aquaponic setups. Basil, lettuce and chillies Root mass being investigated by an Azureus male. Lettuce, perpetual spinach and silverbeet. Plant-lings growing on the Poret foam Basil growing on the Hamburg Matten Filter.
  20. We have just set up a hard scape for one of our sponsors. Its an AquaOne Reef tank that is stocked with high quality Blue Dolphins, Yellow Peacocks, Taiwanee Reefs and Electric Yellows.
