  1. Are these jellyfish native? Havent heard/seen any before
  2. pictures might help determine what it is
  3. my new kokopu are putting on the beef as well. its kinda cool watching them become less transparent and also how more idividualality/attitude ie 'yawning', contesting for dominance. amazing how it thrills the people who had previously not realised whitebait grew into somthing :gigl:
  4. that looks pretty sick/embarasing dude regardless of our countries dependance on the dairy industry :tears:
  5. Thats one impressive fish  How long have you had it?
  6. Has anyone had any luck keeping their torrentfish on a diet of artificial/commercial feed? If so what brand and type?
  7. I dont think anyone under 40 will be playing. Those old timers :sage: gotta take it easy so the scrums wont be the usual crash/bang type us young folk :bounce: have to go through each w.e. Should be good entertainment though, something you could expect to see most of the townspeople on the sidelines supporting.
  8. Im playing either 6 or 7 for Waipu. With the town having a scotish heritige, every home game we run out of the sheds to the sounds of the local bagpipe band. The old timers :sage: have an exhibition match coming up, a golden oldies game titled men in kilts, guess what they have to play the game in :rotf: they all are supposed to wear a months worth of facial hair
  9. You could try wearing a diving 5 pocket weightbelt. You can either change the angle you want your light to be at, OR have 5 spotlights around your waist, might be overkill but there will be no blind spots for somthing to go wrong
  10. No pics but my go to gear is 1 cheap net, 1 bucket, 1 energiser headlamp, and my trusty dive torch. Used to have a flounder light attatched to a 12 volt battery pack but it was all a bit too fiddly trying to juggle it with the net when I was chasing somthing down
  11. Really? thats a bummer, is it there that fewer fish people up here? Is there somthing in the water? :dunno:
  12. Is there a club in Northland? Noticed everywhere else has been up to things lately but never anything north of Auckland, are we missing out? How many of us are there up here?
  13. Thats a nice looking eel that youve got there. How long is it? mines about a foot long now and spends its time hiding in either the pump sump or under the gravel.
  14. Well I managed to get wet but last night was pretty uneventful - saw heaps but nothing took my fancy to bring home. Been looking for a crown jewel for the tank. The local species just wont do. Does anyone know where I could get a lil Giant, Koaro, or Shortjaw? Prefer the Galaxiids but only got the Inanga and Bandeds around the local streams. Willing to do a bit of travelling to get one. No stream is too deep, too cold, or too wet.
  15. Watched the shorts for this weeks episode, looks good. Pelicans eating Gannets. Went out fishing once and had a Gannet swallow my livebait kahawai. If a Gannet can swallow a large kahawai and a Pelican can swallow a Gannet, how large a fish can a pelican swallow? hmmmm I wish we had Pelicans in NZ
  16. Had a cray of mine do that once. Startled mum finding this thing crawling down the hallway. After travelling over the carpet it was spikey AND furry.
  17. My feet feel a lil too dry now. Nothing walking up a stream wont fix I think I'll go for a bit of a hunt tonight. Thanks guys for the motivation. :bounce:
  18. Dude i'll come out and grab one if u'll have me. Keen for one and just down the road
  19. Thanks guys, still trying to suss all this stuff out. Tried to do a PM yesterday, I think it worked, dunno. Clubs huh? whats involved in that?
  20. Eels are awsome in a tank dude, I saved one when it could be mistaken for a garden worm. They can get abit aggressive to its tank mates but they'll also take food out of your hands. Ive had mine for two years now, hasnt tried to escape once and seems to be the most temperature tolerant.
  21. Cheers! Its wicked atm. How do I get a picture under my username like everyone else? :dunno:
  22. Cheers guys, im from Bream bay just south from Whangarei. Live at Langs beach, work at Ruakaka, bout to move to Waipu.(Its a big bay)
  23. Howsit goin? My names Josh and im new to this forum stuff. I've kept natives in a lil 50l tank for a couple of years now and I work in aquaculture farming paua, been doin it for 5 years now. Both can definately be challenging at times, especially thru summer  As my username suggests im heavily into my diving particularly for crays (still looking for that trophy cray). Did the Marine studies course down at BOP and a fishkeeping cert at MTI. Anyway im pretty keen on learning more and hope to do so from my fellow fish keepers. Thats it for the moment, cant wait to start discussing fishy topics :bounce: (Dont no many fishkeepers in person)
