  1. Heres my pride and joy as of 10mins ago... Left side: Right Side:
  2. Thought its about time for an update. The tank is going great now, with several of the corals now spreading well onto the live rock, and lots of growth. Unfortunatly my original firefish jumped out cos I didnt have a lid, but thats sorted now. I picked up a new one on friday thanks too Ben. Here's a full tank shot... And here's my new firefish (I liked this photo!)... Will post some coral pic's soon... Cheers, Jake.
  3. Well my tanks been up and running almost a month now. I never really got an ammonia spike, well it went up to 0.25 and then back to 0 in the first week (they joys of using live rock, live sand and live filter media ), and there hasn't been any nitrite or nitrate in there either. So today I added my first fish... He's an awsome little dude! Already out and about. I also have a few small coral frags from work, and a small hammer that I bought from work too. The hammer is fully open and looking great. Hopefully get some better pic's soon. Cheers, Jake.
  4. Thanks for all the comments guys. Now I just got to wait for it to cycle! Dam time goes slow! Yea I liked my T'ed return too, only problem is it takes up heaps of space in my small tank, but cheaper than a wavysea!
  5. Hey all, My tank is finally up and running with live rock. Its a custom bulit 600mm x330mm (wide) x 350mm tank with twin overflows and return bulit in, with 500mm x 250mm (wide) x 350mm sump. At the moment I'm running an Eheim 1262 pump (3400l/h) which is giving me a pretty good flow in there I think and for lighting just a twin flro until I can get 4 T5ho's. I will post some pic's of the whole set-up (sump, stand etc) when my camera's charged, but firstly here's a quick FTS... I also found a few cool critters in the rock when I got it home! A found a bright orange pistol shrimp (or thats what I think it was) that fell out of one of the rocks, unfortunatly it was dead, and was later eated by a couple of nudibranchs. A 6 inch bristle worm and some small ones, and of course lots of tiny brittle stars, star fish, PODs and little snails. Let me know what you think, and any idea's you might have... Cheers, Jake.
  6. I have, kyle has and rob has breed them. Look in the catfish section for info if you want my accounts. They seemed very easy to breed if you know what you are doing.
  7. I only just got my Albino BN's so they are a bit young yet, maybe in a couple of months tho. Haha, I sold it because it was around 18cm, ate all my new rainbow fish, lol, and I needed the space for breeding. The guy who bought it got a bargin tho, he only paid $60 for it! Oh yea, and he would bite my finger, and not let go and that really hurts, hahaha.
  8. I have a couple... 2x Butterfly Plec's (breeding pair. along with quite a few babies) 2x GBA (breeding pair) 3x King Tiger plec's 3x True albino BN's (1 male, 2x female) 3x White Headspot Ancistrus (2x male 1x female) 2x Chocolate Zebra Plec's (1x male 1x female) 2x Rino Whiptail (Pair) 2x Tiger Whiptail (breeding pair) 2x Royal Whiptail 5x L002 1x Peckoltia Brevis (Or L205) male 1x L080 (I think thats what it is) 1x Clown Pleco (female) 1x Blue Phantom plec 1x Snowball plec 3x Microsynodontis polli And I just sold my coolest cat, my Jaguar Catfish! He was awsome. I think thats all...
  9. Haven't got any pics at this stage sorry. The babies have hatched now, but it was only a small spawn. I have around 10 babies in the breeder which are still alive (15 or so were dead the morning after I put them in the trap, Im not sure why. I might have been to rough when transfering them, doh). Will keep you posted, hopefully with some pics if I get around to it. Cheers, Jake.
  10. Well my Butterflys have finally done it again. My males in his cave with eggs (I can only see 4 eggs, but the caves in a bad place this time, so I'm confident there is more). I think it must be their new tank, as I moved them into a 100L (75cm x 45cm x 30cm)tank last week (they were in the 2' tank still which was too small for the pair. I didnt even need to trigger them with a water change or anything this time. Anyway, I will keep you posted... Cheers, Jake.
  11. IMO it is definatly not L082. The teeth of alll Ancistrini spp. do not match your fish, rather they have 4 large, flat rasping pads (not teeth as in your fish). Judging by the teeth structure I am pretty sure that is a scobinancistrus sp. of some description. Maybe either L048 or L368? BTW, thats the same family as L014 so your guess was pretty good BK! I could still be wrong though. Cheers, CatBrat.

    BURPING PLEC

They usually do that when there is insufficient oxygen levels in the tank or when the water quality isn't very good. It will be taking in a gulp of air from the surface not burping, and then usually they will let it out on its way down to the bottom, or soon after. Cheers, CatBrat.
  13. Red ears lay their eggs in the ground out of the water, so what do you mean by removing the male when there are eggs in the tank? just trying to understand what you are asking. My ones lay over a hundred eggs every year (we have a large group in an outside pond), but we don't really bother much with hatching the eggs.
  14. I paid less than that for mine. I ordered them though my LFS.
  15. L001 L002 L007 L010a (red whiptail) L014 L018/L081/L085/L177 L027 L027 Tapajos L030 L046 (very few!!) L047 L052 or L168 L089 L104 L114 L128 L129 L137 L137 ‘Spotted’ L144 L199 L200 L201 (not 100% sure on this one) L204 L239 L254 L260 L270 LDA08 LDA31 Peckoltia brevis Leporacanthicus hetrodon Glyptoperichthys punctatus Rineloricaria spp. (a few different sorts) Royal Whiptail A few other nice whiptails from different genus’ Also a few types of Twig Catfish Common Ancistrus Parotocinclus jumbo Chaetostoma cf. thomsoni Thats all I can think of off the top of my head, but I'm sure there are a few others around. None of them can really be considered as regular, bu the can be found around the place if you know who to talk to and where to look, and your lucky. Cheers, Jake.
  16. Congrats Phill, I now have a round 100+ newly hatched fry swiming around the parents tank. Will try to get some pic's later.
  17. Sorry about the late reply. The fry are still doing well. And yesterday I found another, much larger, spawn!! Probably twice the size of the last one! Cheers, CatBrat.
  18. It looks to be a Hypostomus of some sort. Maybe Hypostomus punctatus or something similar. Have a look at other Hypostomus here on PC and see if anything matchs. Cheers, CatBrat.
  19. Finally got my camera back, so I can post an update. I missed a few days in the middle grrrrrr (I shouldn't leave my camera places when I need it! DOH!), but here they are anyway... Day 3: you can start to see the fry developing inside the eggs... Missed the next few days, but the eggs continued to develop weel and became a lot darker brown. Then 30mins ago my first baby Whiptail!! YAY!... Cheers, CatBrat.
  20. Awsome! I had an adult male LDA31 that I got last year. Unfortunatly he didnt do too well in my tank, but he was an awsome fish!! How big are they? Sexable? Heres my guy in his last week (you can see his odontodes fungusing, i have no idea why they did)... Cheers, CatBrat.
  21. Are the fully red spotted Spotted L204 or are they another species?
  22. Haha so who did you talk to? Thanks guys. No secret as to how to take good pics. Just put and click , oh and get all the settings right! Heres the male today... Im going to post he egg development pic's on here just to see how they go. Will keep you posted. Cheers, CatBrat.
  23. Please don't try and cross breed the species. There is no advantage that I can see, all you are doing is mixing bloodlines, and not keeping true to the species! Cross breeding is something that I don't like, and it seems pointless to me. Breeding true to the species seems like a much better idea, and the fry you get from it are more likely to be healthy. Why dont you get a group of one or the other and try to breed from them. Cory's are a schooling fish, and therefore are much happier when kept in groups of 6 or more. That way you are much more likely to have both males and females, and get many more babies as well. If you only have the space of a trio then try to get one male and 2 females, as the male will spawn with both females. I hope you take this into account.
  24. Haha I started yesterday. How did you know? I got them on the 3rd of Feb I think, so its been a couple of weeks. Cheers, CatBrat.
