  1. LOL .... Cheers BTW: My bill is on the way to Texas for all these free plugs I' giving you
  2. He he.... I already did. The avatar you have on your site looks choice. Ooops This is the Aquatic section... Errmm better ask a plant question Do you use CO2, and have you any unusual plants over there Seriously thinking about this CO2 thing, but being an oldie am hard to change my ways, but John1 sent me a few pics from Australia, so it got me thinking, so I may give it a try in a week or so. Concept seems simple enough, and the cost is none existent for the simple setup, which would be the way I would go to try it out. We have heaps of CO2 addicts here, so I may just get addicted with them. You know what they say, "If you can't beat em... Join em" Keep those post coming Love the old Texan drawl We say "Git in behind yer mongrel" Eg, Referring to the cattle dogs herding the stock... cows... sheep... people he he . Regards, Bill (Pegasus)
  3. Hey there Bowhunter and Kluyu, Great site you have there, just joined up. Pity about the meltdown, but hey... the new stuff looks choice. Come on you guys. This is a great little site that needs a bit of support and has lots of interesting topics, not just fish, so pay them a visit and make a post. In case you missed it, here it is again http://communitytank.aaquaria.com/boards/index.php Pity about not being able to use my own Avatar though Bill (Pegasus)
  4. Now now Andrew, don't you go bringing any of those man eating plants back to New Zealand will you ??
  5. Hi there Bowhunter. Real glad you found us way down here. There's a great interest here in guppies at the moment. Several members are in the process of setting up a guppy society, so there should be lots of interest there for you. We have lots of other areas where you can tell us about your fish when you have time. Regards, Bill (Pegasus)

    Howdy!!

Geez... That's a great idea Caryl, wonder why I never thought of that Just kidding Often you see people using differnt names for different sites, but I like the name I chose, and you get a little bit of recognition, and often get a few members from other sites following you home (Thanks Kluyu and others) If you visit other sites, tell them who you are and where you are from. I do and always have, and this forum link is on all my overseas posts, plus on my home website. Gives you a nice feeling seeing the New Zealand Fishroom link in among all those international posts. Spread the word people, that's what the forums are all about. Errmm... Should I be charging for advertising... Happy Days, Bill (Pegasus)
  7. A handful of sheep or horse manure in the bath or tub will more than triple your daphnia output. Just don't sqeeze it too hard when you are putting it in A damp hessian sack left on the lawn overnight will give you all the earthworms you need, even in the height of summer.
  8. We are sure glad you did join us Kluyu from Texas. Never thought the old frozen fertilizer would get so much comeback, but it created a few interseting posts Great to see you digging up these old threads, just what we need to get the ball bouncing again he he. All you need now is a big Texas logo beside your handle on the left and a link in your sig to your home forum Regards, Bill (Pegasus)
  9. Hi Karen, welcome back, Most fish will eat a chopped up earth worm if it is chopped small enough. Use one out of the garden rather than the compost... don't know what might be in there Other foods you can try are Mossie Larva or White Worms are an excellent clean food. If you put a bucket or something in the back garden and swish a half a spoon of yeast in it, you will get heaps of Mozzie larva... Just get them before the hatch and fly off. You can get White Worm Cultures here at this address. I just got some and they are excellent value. http://www.ak.planet.gen.nz/~bio/ They also have a great selection of other live foods that would be suitable for your fish. Regards, Bill (Pegasus)

    Howdy!!

Hey there Kluyu, great to see a familiar face and welcome to the bottom of the world. True what you say, there's no boundaries now and we can send you a post the day before you recieve it being a day in front. Problem with all these great forums sprouting up is you get a bit confused at times as to where you posted what, but as you are new here you can dig out all those posts you made thoughout the world and stick them right here on the NZFR cos we would all love to read them he he. Suppose you could go for the KluyuTX when you visit overseas. I just use the NZ behind my name just like Caryl, and of course advertise our great little forum Hope you find time to visit us often, and look forward to reading your posts. Best Regards, Bill (Pegasus)...... aka (Pegasus NZ)
  11. HI all new and old, Anyone wanting an Avatar or Logo to place beside their name or handle on the left of your posts might want to look here. Lots of selections, and puts a bit of colour into the forum The third link has a great selection to suit all tastes. http://www.artgame.com/freebies.htm http://www.iconbank.com/gx/index.htm http://www.iconarchive.com/ Regards, Bill (Pegasus)
  12. I'm gonna complain.... They never offered me a ticket to there Forgive us Chris... This often happens with Caryl and I. CMON you lot.... What about a few more welcomes for our new members
  13. Geez Caryl.... Didn'y you get yours... They sent one for me... first class, but the wife has to travel with the ordinary lot.. he he. I'll bring yoiu a doggie bag back Errrmmm "It's not WHAT you know" in this case, but "WHO you know" heh heh.. Hi Chris, just great that you swam the gap for a visit. Hope you find a lot of interest here and find a bit of time to tell us all about those fish of yours. Regards, Bill (Pegasus)
  14. Hi Kuts, nice to see new members. Glad you could join us. There's a link here in the Aquatic Section showing how to form a Riccia Carpet that you might be interested in. Riccia is apparently available according to our plant list. (Click on twin fish at header of pages) Regards, Bill (Pegasus)
  15. Hi Robert, Welcome to the Fishroom. Quite a few Discus lovers here so you'll be right at home. Hope you will post about some of your breeding techniques. Bill (Pegasus)
  16. Here's a great site I found for all lovers of Golfish, Pond Fish, and Tropical as well. Worth Bookmarking http://www.kokosgoldfish.com/ Regards, Bill (Pegasus)

    Hello there

Hi there, brought the missus along at last... Great post Damon, and welcome Pamlea. You say: If you are having water probs why not collect rain water from your roof. You can harden/soften it as need be and it's got to be better than bore water if you filter it well. I'm on tank water and can't abide to even drink city water. Best of luck with the breeding program, and I hope the summer brings you lotsa babies :) (Fish that is he he) Bill (Pegasus)
  19. Hey you guys, great posts, keep it up, this is really interesting. Good info like this is exactly what we need. Bill.
  20. Hi Pete, Seems you have been very busy reading the old posts.... Great stuff The B. macrostoma was mentioned in relation to the various types of anabantoid, but not the types available here in NZ. I don't know if these are available in NZ, and after looking down our "permitted imports" (Click on double fish icon at top of page) the only reference is to "Betta Fighting Fish" as being a collective species that are allowed here, so unless someone has a few hidden in their basement, I can't truthfully say if they are in NZ or not. That particular topic was beginning to be one of the good discussions on the forum as it was beginning to reveal what types of anabatids were in NZ and what types members had heard of, but it suddenly faded, which was a shame. More topics like that should be started for Cichlids, Catfish, Tetras and so forth. Great to hear from you again and would love to hear about how the trade is doing in the old country if you fancy emailing me BTW: We all know that this was meant in fun, but apparently MAF (Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries) monitor some of these boards, and I would hate you to be stopped at customs with a heap of Betta's in your bags :) Put a smiley on the back of it to signify you are just kidding Nice place to retire if you fancy Regards, Bill (Pegasus)
  21. HI Pete, Glad you found the NZ Fishroom, but being a fishy type you would have had to come to the best place in NZ I'm an old "pom" that's been out here since '75 and I feel right at home here, especially now I've gotten back into keeping fish. You won't find the variety and size of the TFS's (tropical fish stores) to be on the same scale as in the UK, but what we have, as far as I know, is pretty good generally. (I don't get out that often) Anyway, welcome to the forum, and I hope your stay in NZ is a pleasant one, but no smuggling our fish back to the UK :) Enjoy the long trip (I don't envy you after four trips) Regards, Bill (Pegasus)
  22. Suppose I am a bit of a pessimist over the winter months as I run two heaters in my tanks, one set at 76-78f and the secondary one set at 72-74f in case the main heater fails. Suppose I'm taking the risk that they could both stick on full heat, but ....... Bill (Pegasus)

    Water bridge

For anyone interested in this concept there are companies that will form clear thin wall acrylic or perspex tubing in various bores (for a price), but one thing that always concerned me was the fact that within the "tunnel" there was no surface air, so if a fish became confused as to direction would it suffer? Looking back, I think the "bridge or tunnel" was a seperate item that must have been "capped" at either end while full of water and then placed into position and the "caps" removed. This seems the only logical way they would have been able to completely fill the tunnel, as the top of the tunnel was a fair way (perhaps 300mm) above the main container.

    Water bridge

The one I remember looked like a big whicker basket, but made of glass, and the handle was about 75mm diam. the "basket" shape was open, but the bridge ends were submersed at either side to allow the fish to swim through. Looked like magic in those days
  25. HI Hobbit, Cut a disk of plastic from an ice creme container lid and slip it under the gravel where your deep rooted plants will go. The U/G won't suck the nutrients away at this point.
