  1. plastic household water tanks work well and come in any size from 1000 - 30000+ litres.
  2. Congratulations to everybody finishing exams.
  3. The sennheiser in ear buds (the ones with the black rubber grommets) are rebranded logitech ear buds for twice (maybe 3x) the price. Literally the exact driver, casing, cables etc. You can get them as logitech for about $30-$50 and as sennheiser for $100+. It's cheeky but it's all the rage in brands these days. I suspect they got to the point where they'd need to invest a lot of money to make in ear speakers any better than what they could buy off the shelf so they stay focussed on their headphone market and rebrand the buds to ensure they have something in that category.
  4. No idea on care but a guy at aquaworld has one in his nano.
  5. Friends of mine have 2 chocolate labs called hugo and boss. Boss isn't the boss.
  6. Woo hoo! It has dried out and is now working fine! Phew! Exclamation! Shift-1!!! Now to figure out how to cancel this order...
  7. I think you're right. I've ordered a replacement. It's currently running the lights at 100% so at least I can control them coming on and off. I'll just run them hot for a few days until the replacement arrives. That was an expensive mistake to make but not as bad as it could have been - my drivers are still dry.
  8. Just gave my lighting controller a bath in salt water by not being careful. :tears: Drying it in a cup of rice as we speak. It seems to turn the lights on to full but nothing else. It might have to do until I can get a replacement.
  9. Those flower stems shoot up fast eh? You must be doing something right
  10. Sennheiser or Grado if you've got the cash. Bose are ok but you're paying for the name these days. I'm on my 2nd pair of sennheisers (first were stolen) and they've been going strong for 6 years. I'd love to upgrade to Grado but can't afford it. then again, i do spend a lot of cash on fish stuff...
  11. :dunno: Something more than watching motorbikes on tv. Maybe I'll shoot some dudes in Battlefield 3.
  12. call it Killer. I'm on the hunt for some motivation - anybody got any they don't need?
  13. From what I understand the CF1200 will house nitrates if it's set up for fresh water (Sponge, noodles etc.) but it can be set up for marine by removing the sponge, filter wool and noodles and replacing with coral rubble and whatever chemical treatments you're using (carbon, phosban etc.) it's a good way of creating a media basket.
  14. OK, so I cut back to 10 hours white and 12 hours blue. It's only been a day but things are getting better already. What I thought was frogspawn isn't, it's something like it but with green stems and purple tips instead of the other way round. I also just picked up an RO/DI unit so I'll be buying some salt tomorrow so I don't have to trek to the beach every couple of days. I can also use it for top up water. Ammonia is still .5ppm but that's now the reading before the water changes not after. I'm still doing about 10L water change each day. Still no nitrites or nitrates at any major levels so I'm not too worried. The clowns and anemone seems happy today.
  15. You can try but 2 t8's doesn't really equal high light.
  16. I have a question about photo period - is 12 hours too long to start with? My white lights are on from 8am-8pm with ramp up and down taking 4 hours each way. I'm wondering if this is too much light for now?
  17. slightly higher priorities at the moment. will get some once I'm happy with the way the tank is going.
  18. New kit and new water collected today. Tank has .5ppm ammonia, new water has 0ppm ammonia so it's just a little cycle. I'll keep up daily water changes and hope it clears up in a day or 2. I compared my anemone to the same species at HFF Albany and they're both looking the same so I'm not worried that it's stressed or dying just yet.
  19. Yeah, that was the next option. I guess this one is a year old.
  20. You've got some temperamental crypts. Maybe you should buy my tank and metal halides so they'll be happy and healthy
  21. I don't trust harbour water. Not really sure why but by the time it's flowed past the ships and waterfront I don't want to touch it. I was originally collecting from Waiake beach (Torbay) as it was further away from the harbour. I might go back there...
  22. I'm glad you asked because I hadn't thought to test. It's straight from Takapuna boat ramp so I assumed it'd be none but it's actually .5ppm as well. There's my problem! Damn it... It has been sitting for a few (5) days in a bucket in a dark cool room, clearly that doesn't work. I'll go and collect some more tomorrow if this rain stays away and I'll test it as soon as I get home to make sure it's clean and clear. Maybe that RO/DI unit needs to be a higher priority.
  23. wouldn't you know it! I've got ammonia today  It's only .5ppm but that's after a 20% water change. Should I dose with Prime to negate any ill effects or should I just keep up the water changes? I've kind of resigned myself to the fact that I screwed up going with this stocking as the first stock for the tank and that I may lose them but I'm over that and prepared to do whatever I can to make it work. Tips/suggestions/directions please
