  1. I offer the opposite advice - make sure you strip it back to bare glass panes as the silicone between the panes needs to bond with the seal strip inside the tank. It's between the panes that holds the tank together which it hte bit you don't want letting go. The seal inside the tank just holds the water in.
  2. air stone /co2 near the inlet in the tank? cracked hoses? hoses that are not quite done up tightly on the cannister adapters (I had this problem but didn't have any air issues). Otherwise no idea sorry...
  3. Hi, Sorry in advance for this one but a while back someone posted a link to a great website in germany/denmark that sort of area with great prices on the Eheim compact 5000 pumps. I can't find it in a search so I was just wondering if either that person or anybody else that knows could let me know? The pump with delivery worked out to be just over $200NZ so very worth the wait for delivery. Thanks in advance. Dan
  4. Looks awesome gz - well done! When I saw the first resin coated shot I was blown away. Really very very cool. Why am I not surprised you have a 12 foot tank? Is it the fibreglass one? sorry completely off topic.
  5. That's an awesome tip. Thanks heaps.
  6. Sweet! I'll go that way next time then.
  7. I got sidetracked at plumbing world. Sorry. I've now got 2 40mm overflows for the sump though. :D Did you get any henward? Do you really need 4 sacks? Want to share?
  8. ooooooo! is there a minimum purchase? I'll head out there this afternoon I think.
  9. http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=52350 oh, snap...
  10. That's the way I went. Got some 150W 6K bulbs off trademe too. 2 lamps will be fine for that size tank but you will need co2.
  11. If you find it let us all know? I saw the bags at HFF today but it was the larger gauge as you say.
  12. for a 6ft tank? 3 foot sump at least. woah! there are new emotes.... :smln:
  13. Really? the t5s are the same retail price on the shelf... Thankfully I need t8s.
  14. Thanks heaps. I've added a second DIY co2 bottle with an old internal powerhead to spread it this afternoon. I'll get a drop checker in the next few days and see how we're going.
  15. I'm just starting out with my big tank (see signature link) and I'm wanting to get the growth rocking along with all the plants in there to get them established. I'm thinking the co2 I'm adding isn't quite cutting it now that the 2 x 150w 6k MH lamps are on for 8 hours a day. I'm seeing a bit of growth in the last 2 days (first 2 days of MH light) but that had pretty much started with the single 3' powerglo and the MH light has just sped it up a little. Should I add some excel for a few days to see what that does? I haven't had any pearling yet so I assume the co2 levels aren't quite right. I've been adding flourish comprehensive at the recommended doses for the last week (twice). So far no problems with algae except maybe a little bba that was a hangover from the last tank that survived the bleach bath before the new tank. Dimensions & volume of tank - 1520x760x610 - 690L (about 100L is substrate/aquatic mix) Lighting - T8 36" PowerGlo (12 hours a day) 2x 150W 6k metal halides (8 hours a day) Substrate - Daltons Aquatic Mix & Daltons number 1 sand to seal, river rocks on top of sand. Plants - Red Rose Sword, Osiris Sword, RoseXOzelot Sword, other unknown Sword, Green Lotus, Dwarf Sag, Crypts (not sure which flavour), cuttings of Ambulia, Hygrophila polysperma and Ludwigiia something (goes a nice red / green mix). Fish stocking - 13 panda cory, 4 apisto agassizi, 2 GBR, 3 L140, 4 p. scallare - no snails as yet. Ferts - currently using a nutrifin DIY co2 ladder. Dosing 2 times a week with flourish comp. Goals - To have a tank that is full of growing and healthy plants. I don't mind doing the work to keep it that way it's just getting there in the first place that eludes me. Problems - New tank so nothing yet just want to make sure I get the best out of my plants as soon as possible.
  16. also - a water change reminder would be awesome. Something that calculates your stock levels and schedules water changes for you into your google calendar or similar. I can never remember when I last did a water change but I know it was within the last week. Maybe even yesterday. I may have done one every day for the last week. They're second nature to me on the display tank, not so much on the storage / holding tanks which I really should take more care of.
  17. well there you go I'll be stocking up too.
  18. and 2' and 3' powerglo tubes for $25ish. But then most people here probably got the same email... good deals though.
  19. I am sitting on a fortune! They grow like something that grows lots in my tanks.
  20. yep, i'll give you $200 for 100 cardinals. That'd be sweet! Good luck on the first batch.
  21. make me a batch of 100 cardinals?
  22. Yeah, I'd like to know if I'm sitting on a fortune here...
  23. I bought the proper eheim pad pack for my 2224 and I'm pretty sure was more than $10. Not much more though. It's good to have the right size sponge though.
  24. Ahh! I can actually do that - I've got a crappy internal that does nothing in my guppy tank. Put it down low so it gets blasted out and has heaps of water to rise to the surface? leave the little spray bar on it?
