Caryl got a reaction from Fishboy1988 in Suspected Swim Bladder
Put him in a smaller container, with a smooth base and relatively shallow water and float it in the main tank. This means he does not have to move so much to get himself swimming and won't injure himself further when resting. I would hope increased activity indicated he was feeling better rather than more desperate. As long as he is eating well and does not appear to be stressed, other than lying on his side, I would not euthanise him.
It is impossible to say how long it takes to improve as, if it the result of injury, it may be permanent.

I’ll wait for my tank to mature a bit more in that case. I’d be keen for some of your Anubias later in the year if you still have some

Caryl reacted to maxxi1 in Notice of AGM 2022
AGM 2022 Important Information
Notice of FNZAS AGM August 20, 2022, 10am (Virtual Meeting) details to follow
The FNZAS Executive is calling for nominations for the Executive for the
2022-2023 year.
To help people make a choice on becoming an executive we have attached a very brief overview and expectations of each position, please note the position descriptions are out of date and will need to be modernized.
Please note we need to ensure that the people who take on positions understand it is voluntary and they will need to commit time to positions and meet minimum requirements. The upcoming years ahead are vital to the FNZAS with the new Incorporated Societies Act being implemented.
All positions are deemed vacant therefore incumbents are required to re-submit nominations as in previous years.
Patron
2 x Vice Patron
President
2 x Vice President

Breeding Co-Ordinator
1 – 3 Committee members
Anyone seeking nomination must be a financial member of the FNZAS at the time. If the nominee is not attending the AGM we also require written consent to stand for office sent to the Secretary prior to the AGM. No nominations will be taken from the floor, unless there are no nominations/not enough nominations for a particular position.
Please send all nominations to [email protected] along with a Bio and Photograph prior to 31 July 2022 to allow time for these to be distributed to clubs and their delegates given voting instructions by their members.
Remits
Please send any remits your club has to [email protected]
Delegates
Clubs have until 31 July 2022 to submit the names of their delegates for conference to me. If you have changed your delegates since your last AGM, and you want your club to have a say at this meeting or be able to vote, it is important that I get this via email prior to 31 July 2022. We don’t want clubs missing out.
Attendance
Owing to recent changes to our social structure due to Covid 19 effects an all-online AGM will be once again offered to our members. Observers are also welcome.
Thank you
FNZAS Secretary

Caryl got a reaction from nomad fish in Wellington - After fish and plants
I would hold off on the rams until the tank has matured, as that is what they prefer.
I would offer some Anubias but not keen to send at this time of year and don't trust the couriers at the moment, from a time-wise point of view, as I am in the South Island.

Caryl got a reaction from nomad fish in Can nz least killifish live and thrive with white cloud minnows?
Most of the time we can catch and release/keep etc too but not if it involves native, or invasive, species.
We don't mind you shitting in the woods, as long as you are off the path, so nobody stands in it, it is the ones who do it in the waterways who are more of a problem! 😉

Caryl got a reaction from Fishboy1988 in WTB Wellington - Gold Barbs
Barbs are good and hardy, an easy care fish. The bigger the group (dependent on aquarium size of course) the more interesting their behaviour. They are more likely to show schooling behaviour in a large group.

Caryl got a reaction from nomad fish in Free Bristlenose - Wellington - Semi Urgent
Somebody with large fish ought to be able to keep him safely as they will soon put a stop to the aggression. Have you got driftwood in the aquarium? Bristlenoses need this.
-
Caryl reacted to maxxi1 in Free Bristlenose - Wellington - Semi Urgent
Hi Fishboy, I have a fish room in Upper Hutt if you need to rehome him or switch him for one of my many bristlenoses you are more than welcome, if he really is a bit like you say we have Multiple tanks so he can go into one of his own if needed.

Caryl reacted to maxxi1 in Pond Snails in Wellington
hi Bert - I think Maximum Pet Supplies in Naenae have some, if not I will see if one of Upper Hutt Aquarium Society Members have any to spare and ill get them to comment on this thread.
Thanks

Caryl reacted to nomad fish in tub goldfish pond with bucket filter
Yeah i can relate, i love it but took me a while to get the exact right sound that was part of them fun

Caryl got a reaction from nomad fish in tub goldfish pond with bucket filter
That looks really neat but it wouldn't suit me. Why people think the sound of water is soothing I don't know as it just makes me want to pee! 🙂

Caryl got a reaction from Fishboy1988 in How to change filter pads
Depending on how many layers of cotton wool you are replacing, swap them one at a time with a couple of weeks in between to give time for the bacteria to grow. Putting them in the tank for a week or two before swapping them out in the filter also works.
-
Caryl got a reaction from nomad fish in LED strip lighting build
Knowing Ira, he may already have done so since the thread was started in 2018. Always more good stuff available to use in the aquarium (or to control parts of it) as time goes by and it is good to see what others have done in their own set-ups to give others ideas. They are often cost saving too!

Check out Stella's native fish FB page. Full of fascinating information and, if you ask there, she will probably reply promptly (or tell you to do your own research )

Caryl got a reaction from nomad fish in Can I breed Guppies to survive winter?
They can certainly survive in cooler (not cold) water but surviving and being happy are different things. They prefer the mid 20'sC but can go down to around 15C. If the temperature (including nights) where you live stays above 20C then you'll be fine otherwise, please don't do it. They will also be more susceptible to diseases at lower temperatures.

Might help if you stated what area you are in.

Caryl got a reaction from maxxi1 in What's happening to my plant?
Anubias do not like their roots planted too deeply. Thy are often tied to bits of driftwood or rock. I see it still has the metal around the base. Remove this. Sometimes a plant will drop leaves when introduced to a new environment, due to stress.
-
Caryl reacted to alanmin4304 in What's happening to my plant?
It looks to me like the plants have been grown emersed and are having a struggle converting to submersed growth. You can sometimes have better luck if you put these plants in a glass of water on the window sill until they grow roots.

Caryl got a reaction from Pokitren in What do I do with fry?
If you don't want any fry, don't put the female in the breeder box. As she drops fry she, and all the other fish, will eat the fry as they appear. Problem solved!
Not sure if any LFS take fry from random people these days.
