    going nuts

first off white spot cure is the best treatment for white spot/ itch. 2nd the fishes tummy is the size of its eye and from the sounds of it you are over feeding, also what brand of fish food are you feeding because fish are what they eat , if you buy your food from the supermarket you are not giving your fish what they need in their diet. have you sprayed any sprays round your tank?
  5. babys are growing fast!!! they are from 12mm-15mm long so they are growing nice and quick. i have some photos and i have tied to load them up a few times but have had no luck but i think i have it sorted now so tonight or tomorrow i should have some pic's up. i put mum with another male on friday , i hope she gets on with him

    Hello evryone

welcome Henry you can learn lots about fish keeping from here and even joining a local fish club and you can meet people in person
  7. everyone is saying this because they dont want your fish to die and they dont want you to lose the enjoyment out of keeping fish! it takes 6 weeks for a tank to be safe to put more fish in it. you could maybe put a few more in now but trust everyone DONT RUSH IN! it will only end up in
  8. i got mine on friday , i sat down an read it on saturday , its great to read what is going on round nz thanks you did a GREAT job
  9. Welcome booger this is the right place to ask lots of ?'s ok im guessing its a krib that you have or maybe an albino krib , i could be wrong as Caryl said go to the shop you got it from and ask them. if its a krib they breed by making a nest, they will move some gravel to how they want it, so dont flatten what they do out, fish move gravel for a reason. but go and find out what it is first then tell us and I'm sure you will get lots of help with breeding them once again welcome

so far the shops in auckland havent been told we cant sell it. we cant buy it from out of auckland! but until i get a letter telling me i cant sell it i will sell it and make sure i get lots of people keeping it. we get visits from maf to check on fish and plants ! sometimes they tell you who they are other times they just say they are looking, i do feel its because they are dumb that they are banning it , because the dickhead that we have do the plants couldnt tell me what half the plants are, he was trying to tell me a peace lillie was on the band list

    Sand?

i use place makers builders sand , frest water sand its about $7 a big bag.
  12. have you use the wood in another tank before? that could be the cause of your algae prob's. try cutting your lighting down to 8hrs. north shore club meets first tuesday of the month at 7.30pm , so we just had our meeting the other day. we have a good auction this month we had some really nice plants that sold very very cheep, and some nice drift wood, heaters , plant food and fish
  13. if you use 500gm tabs that will treat 90L without killing good bacteria. do it twice and the algae just dies . thats for the blue green algae
  14. it was easy to get but now the vets are not selling it as freely , but if you get on with your vet he will sell you some. i have knowen people to go to their dr's , bga is a bacterial algae so that why it works so well. but alot of human med's are used to save fish
  15. erythromycin is the best way to remove blue green algae, just dont over do it !
  16. i dont think it right as well , but i have seen it done and some people put some fish together that i would never dream of or want to and it works. some of the african like a lower ph, i knew someone that dived in the lakes and tested the water to see what it was really like and yes the ph was high but in some parts the ph was very very low!! i will see if i can get a report, this guy works for jbl and he dives all over the world testing water and seeing if the fish in the wild eat the food they are making (what a job)
  17. ok to kill that algae you will have to buy some Flourish Excel !! it works very well double the dose the first time you put it in. but if you have fish that don't like med's keep and eye on them as some fish do not like the double dose, if that happens just do a water change.also if you have alot of air going into the tank e.g. airstones turn them down or off as it works faster if you do that. the Hagan ph test kit (wide range) is very good!! don't use carbon in your tanks but if you have to most of them need to be changed every 2-3 weeks.
  18. ok matt, that is bad firstly did you get any of your rocks or wood from a river? did you get your plants from another tank? use chop sticks to get the algae out of the tank just rap the algae like it was spaghetti. how long have you had the lights on for and what plant food have you been useing ? putting some mollies in your tank might help eat the algae as they are good algae eatter , if you dont like them just take them out once the jobs done.
  19. i have seen it done before, as long as you dont have a ph over 7.5 but then you have to keep an eye on both fish as they do like different ph's. but it has been done so its up to you 8)

ok round tummy can be two things , as you said over eatting but most times its poor diet, dont feed them meat! - so its good you didnt. they need wood so thats good you have it in the tank, if you dont have wood in your tanks feed them jbl pleco chips as they have 10% woodfiber. did you shell the pea's ? do you leave the zucchini in the tank for more than 24hrs?
  21. i know i ask this most times but whats your ph? it is normal for them or any fish to play in the bubbles but not all the time  what other fish do you have in the tank?

    Dead Bristle-Nose

sorry to hear that mate its sad when a fish dies, looking at the fish it looks like it wasnt eating its thin in the tummy and the black doesnt look good and you put a new food in the tank? what other fish are in the tank? has the fish been bullied buy other plecos? are you feeding it meat? have you put anything new in the tank like new wood? i lost a zebra by putting drift wood in my tank, i didnt wash it well enough when i put the wood in and i paid the price. so think hard oh and whats your ph?
  23. what kind algae did you have? you dont need to use all 3 of them on will work once you find out what the problem is. alot of people have problems at the moment with algae we think its in the water.
  24. matt are you with one of the fish clubs? because north shore club the one im with have auctions every month and we have some nice plants come up for sale, some stuff that you can often find all the time in lfs.
  25. i have lots of java moss and i cant see why your lps cant get it in for you if you ask them DubbieBoy, if you cant get it and do come to auckland at all give me a call and i wil be happy to give you a bit. as for riccia it only comes in a few time a year.
