  1. Probably best left for coral food at this stage. Layton
  2. There are many marine fish I would like to have, but which aren't reef compatible. Adult Emperor Angel, Clown Trigger, and Picasso Trigger are a few. Layton
  3. The chances of cleaner shrimp growing full size are virtually nill. I believe that people have managed to raise cleaner shrimp to about 14 days (from memory, I may be wrong), but there is a point where the larvae metamorphise into the adult form, none seem to survive past this point. They are still tiny at that stage. Anyhow, the larvae are good coral food. Layton
  4. I started a culture a couple of months ago, but it had crashed when I arrived back from Melbourne. I'll be starting one again once exams are done with. Layton

    Bangaii's

So they aren't. I never even realised that only Apogon spp. is on the list, not Pterapogon spp. You learn something every day. Layton
  6. A club should be totally independent of commercial interests. That is not what it is for, or what it should be used for. Layton

    Bangaii's

Bangaii's originally came from Bangaii Island in Indonesia. This was once the only place they were found in the wild (hence the name), but now they have been introduced to other regions around indo by collectors wanting a supply closer to their stations. The picture is from the Lembeh Strait which seems to be a popular dive site. It seems to have a very wide variety of fish. Layton

    Bangaii's

They're one of those fish you either love, or you hate. Bangaii's are one of the fish that attracted me to the hobby. Layton

    Bangaii's

I've managed to successfully raise about 10 bangaiis once before. many months ago. So I have a bit of experience. Would be nice to have an army of them for my new 6 x 4 tank. :-) Much like this: This is in the Lembeh Strait. Apparently collectors introduced them there from Bangaii Island because it is close to the collection stations. Like I said, i can't find my camera charger, otherwise I would have pics of my tank and the bangaii. Layton

    Acro vs soft

As far as small skimmers on sps tanks... you'll be able to keep them, as long as the usual water parameters are under control and there is enough light and water flow. I don't think it would be particularly easy. Nitrates need to be at zero for good best colouration. Layton

    Acro vs soft

Forgot Lobophytum in that list, it's probably has some of the most toxic species. Layton

    Acro vs soft

As far as direct contact, mushrooms are by far the most potent stingers of acros, but they are virtually harmless when not in direct contact. Chemicals classed as terpenes are responsible for stony coral deaths. Typical concentrations around soft corals are around 1 - 5 ppm. Surprisingly concentrations of around 5-10ppm around stoney corals for 8 hours straight will cause 100% mortality. The amount of terpenes released by soft corals is very species specific within genera, but generally sacrophyton and lemnalia are the two majors, sinularia to a lesser extent. Layton
  13. hence my request for this thread to be lock and to return this forum back to what it was before all this started. It's just getting ridiculous. I refuse to post anything further on this topic or anything related to any commercial operations. Layton

    Bangaii's

A special blend Phyto enriched baby brine shrimp. The food must be live, and as bbs by themselves are not particularly nutritious, the phyoplankton is there to add the fatty acids, without it it is difficult to raise full sized fish. The brineshrimp mustn't be too big or have developed "spines", young bangaiis have been known to choke on them and die. Layton

    Bangaii's

Very basic setup. Probably a three foot tank for rearing them, just to keep the food density up. Then into a 4 footer for growout. The babies are sensitive to shock in the first month or so out of the males mouth. Their diet is also very critical. They are unable to synthesise essential fatty acids which they need to grow. But they are by far the easiest marine fish to breed. I may also setup something for my clowns as well. But they require smaller food, and are more tricky. Layton

    Bangaii's

    Getting one soon. Layton

    Bangaii's

In case your bored of other recent discussions. (I know I am) My female bangaii released eggs today. Would of got a photo, but someone has taken my camera charger!! She seems to produce eggs more often in the warmer weather. I'm going to get a couple of tanks and start breeding them. Layton
  18. Just pathetic. Hopefully this thread will be locked. As predicted a total waste of space. Layton
  19. Bring it up whenever you like. But this is not the place for it. Try the commercial forum. How about getting back to more interesting stuff rather than this rubbish. Layton
  20. the wholesale electricity market and the classic internet browser wars are two that I can think of off the top of my head, no doubt there are many more. This particular market has it's idiosyncrasies which in my opinion make it difficult to apply classical economic models to, there are always exceptions to the rules. Either way this forum is not the place for commercial propaganda. I'll leave it at that. Layton
  21. That's a very short term outlook on everything. Of course Alois wouldn't be offering specials if there was not another importer undercutting the market, because it's not sustainable. But everyone knows my position on this, so no need to rehash what has been said. Layton
  22. I can see this thread is going to be a waste of time, someone might as well delete it now! Layton
  23. Here we go again  Steve must have the biggest spoon in the world! Layton
  24. Just cause I said I don't think the water is clean, doesn't mean it isn't. I'm just not willing to take the risk. I'll probably get shot for saying this but I have never used RO/DI water, and haven't had any problems related to makeup water. You could only get away with this in ChCh. Again, I would highly recommend not starting with a 3 foot tank. That's how I started in the hobby. A 3 foot converted freshwater tank, and I can safely say that that was the biggest and probably most expensive mistake i have made. Layton
