  1. Yeah, you can get up to 19mm apparently. Layton
  2. I'm not brave enough to go with an acrylic tank. Why don't you get a tank made from low iron glass like Starfire®, or Diamant® both are available in 10mm and thinner here. Here's the difference in colour. It's approx twice the price of standard float glass. Layton
  3. My tank must be crap then. I've only ever had cyano once, lasted for 3 weeks then gone. I feed a lot too! Half a sheet of nori plus 3 cubes of brine or mysis shrimp every day. Layton
  4. SO close Pies, got any pics of the sump area? Layton
  5. 'cause some people keep them clean (jk)... when we have time.
  6. That's the point. There once was a time when this was true. But now the longer term effects are known. Who knows, there may be a time when this is true for zeovit. Layton
  7. Smoking also used to be good for you. Now we know better. No doubt zeovit does good things superficially, but are there long term implications of adding these unknown compounds to our tanks? Layton
  8. Many things fall into this class, including many methods people on this board use, including zeovit, which is a point I was making a while back. Reefkeeping magazine is always worth the time to read, and not just Erics column, Randy's and others are just as useful. Here's another one which may be appropriate for this forum at the moment. http://www.reefkeeping.com/issues/2004- ... /index.htm Layton
  9. As far as i know, coralline doesn't serve any real purpose other than looking good. Just adds to to bioload, just like corals. Some are harder to grow than others. Layton
  10. Yeah green grows mainly on the glass but is on some rocks. I also have purple, pink, and red which grow mainly on the rocks and pvc. Layton
  11. Two distinct colours, one is a medium green colour, the other is a bright green. Layton
  12. Yes, the green corraline grows on the glass really quickly. Layton
  13. To be honest I would be wary of adding too much of a particular strain or strains of bacteria all at once. Going along with my theory on tank equilibrium, I think this could upset other strains of bacteria already established. If I was to do it, it would be a small addition, maybe to get some biodiversity. But if your parameters are trending to ideal levels, why would you change anything? Layton

    Advice survey

I've come to learn you should always get a second opinion. Layton
  15. Not underground at all. Petworld have a list on their website for this reason. Pies has also discussed his stock purchases from both petworld and redwood on this board. They are retailers, but they'll also sell as much of their shipments wholesale as they can. I don't blame them either. Layton
  16. Yes they do. Many people have. Layton
  17. Redwood and Petworld are importers, have a retail shop here in CHCH, and also wholesale to shops outside of Christchurch. Layton
  18. I feel sorry for you both. Windows. really  Layton
  19. Half the retailers here are importers. Layton
  20. The reefs face much bigger problems than the ornamental hobby trade. Layton
  21. Pies - from what i've read this is a contagious disease, which is uncommon in the wild. The corals apparantly catch whatever it is from the exporters holding tanks. So survival rate depends on who your buying from I guess. Layton

    New Fish

Thanks Steve, it is almost fully stocked. That's why I need a bigger tank. More room for them to grow. Layton
  23. Yeah my algae is in the same area. Don't see a need for a second. Is there any reason others use a separate area? Layton

    DIY Skimmer

You need someone with a water "laser" high pressure water cutter which doesn't diverge much. They can cut a sponge cake with these water jets without any visible divergace at the bottom of the cut. At the same time they can cut through 1.5" steel (from memory). Quite impressive. I'm sure they could use it on acrylic. Don't know who would have one here though. Layton

    New Fish

Must be almost a year and a half two years waiting for me. They bring in other stuff I ask for, just not acros and the like. Organism are planning on upgrading their lighting on some of their tanks, so that they can get acro's from up north, for us poor chch guys. Craig said that there were acros in this shipment, but he was just winding me up 'cause i'm always asking for them. Layton
