  1. if your thinking a 10-20L tank because it will be easier then think again. anything smaller than 30L and you have to be very very carefull with water chemistry, temperature, oxygen, and stocking.
  2. most people use plumbing pipes from hardware store. or I suppose you could use the pipes from your canister filters if you want them to be flexible. to use one sump for multiple tanks two pumps would be essential. that way you can turn them off seperately and adjust the flow to suit the different tanks needs. people also put their heater in the sump too to tidy up the tank. it would need to be a big one though (even if you left the heaters in the tank a bigger one might be needed anyway as you will have more water to heat) anyway someone else must have more experience than me
  3. im no killie expert but i have heard they do well in peat bottomed tanks. that might just be for breeding though
  4. thats a lot of water changes. could that be part of the problem? removing all the nitrogen compounds befoe the plant can absorb any? just an idea.
  5. awesome video of south american fish in the wild. check out the arowana!
  6. ive never used a canister filter but have always liked the idea of sumps. my next tank..... will definitly have a sump. the tank needs to be built for/modified for them though, so if you already have fish in them it might get a bit tricky. I love the idea that they are so customisable and they increase the water volume of your tank. glass is expensive though. wonder if anyone has tried acrylic?
  7. wow that blew me away! what you putting in it?
  8. hi, welcome. hay i never realised how much birchirs look like axolotls!
  9. did a swap for my geophagus today. my tank now seems super empty as they are hiding atm. boy was the geo hard to catch. i had to remove 1/2 my plants and wood to deprive him of hidey holes!
  10. ah of couse! I should of guessed that. BGKs (there i go!) are one of my 'one day' fish. won't fit one in a 3 footer!
  11. so in this situation probably not good idea?
  12. ok ive been trying for ages to work out what BGK can possibly mean. you seem to be refering to bristlenoses but im at a loss :-?
  13. cool thanks for that. but im sure HWFF will know the ins and outs
  14. moved my heater and it seems to have fixed the problem. was trying it in the corner by the filter but these cold nights are too much for it there. in the middle now and its 26 degrees.
  15. HWFF has dwarf flags and rams atm. I'm gonna get the flags now and get the rams next pay check. here i go!
  16. lol your right I was thinking mm. was still waking up when i wrote that! anyway my 90Lx30Wx45D tank has bracing across the middle so I waould say that a 180cm long tank would definitly need it!
  17. do you mean 1.8 meters or 180cm? theres a big difference
  18. all this talk of themometers reminded me to check my temp. its down to 21! somethings not right!
  19. how does shipping work? never done it before
  20. sweet. that still sounds cool. will they tolerate any other fish in the tank? say a headstander of some kind of some surface dwelling fish?
  21. ok rams and dwarf flags it is! ram=pair flag=harem?
  22. so your saying it would of been better if I didn't broadcast the fact that I had some over the internet
  23. thats how much they cost? maybe something cheeper for my first lot of dwarfs! how much do dwarf flags go for roughly?
