did they start to eat the frozen shrimp immediately or did you have to wean them onto it? Guessing that you have a breeding pair of convicts that produce way too much fry? :lol: Any pics are good!

I was told live feeders by hollywood, If I get one I want to try to wean it onto frozen foods - hopefully - I did some research on them: they grow to about 20cm and are mainly piscivore, wonder how fast they grow though? kinda look like perch/datnoid = 8) Post some pics Snookie

Same, I want to put the del with the ornates but I am not trusting them right now because of their size, just before I had a pictus in with them and they all tried to eat it :evil: , NOT COOL. My delhezi is quite active when he isn't totally stuffed all the time, I just got a fire eel in with him and he has become quite sociable for some reason :-? , weird that he should be mates with the eel. Tank size is 215L in the photos (aqua one 980) which I want to upgrade next year to something more substantial, I have a smaller tank with the del and a fire eel which is around 25-30L which I will need to upgrade also as they get a little bigger too. :roll:

I have 3 ornates at 20cm and 1 del at 10cm, one ornate used to be the biggest but refused to eat for some time allowing the others to put on size - now he is the submissive one :-? Seems like hikari sinking carnivore stuff is the way to go, I already have a silver and 1 siamese tiger + 1 indo tiger which all feed on hikari floation pellets, occasionally the bichirs come to the surface to eat them also. I have also tried feeding earth worms but I was wondering whether they might pose a health risk due to the soil they consume? May try some guppies tho 8)

Hey guys, i was just wondering what you guys feed your bichirs - what food makes them grow big (all the big polypterus owners out there), I feed mine mainly carnivore sinking pellets and sometimes some frozen stuff from hollywood, would live food make these fellas grow faster or maybe fish meat? Had tigers 4 about year, year and a half maybe, but dont know how old before I got them probably around 2 years i guess, emphasising the GUESS part

What are the growth rates with delhezi's that you have experienced? What is the best food for making them grow fast?

Love my new del, when do you reckon I will be able to sex it? Males get the fat anal fin right, do the also get the bulge behind their skull - want that looks sweet. Ornates are awesome, think I have a 1 male 2 females, but may be the other way around, one put on a growth spurt and is now the biggest, and is also the bully. All Bichirs around 20cm, Del is about 9-10cm. Jeff the arowana looks a lot better than the photos suggest (unbelievably difficult getting agood pic of him), great red fins + green sheen. I think I have 1 siamese tiger, 1 indo judging from the stripes both about 15cm, always scrapping with jeff 30cm+ :evil: - slow growers. Will probably upgrade tank nxt year and might sell the aro and the tigers in exchange for new fish, will want to get: another del, 2 senegals (gray), BGK maybe an cheap asian arowana - wish we could get rays here :roll: Hope you like! sorry a little blurry-cameras fault

Sick Del Livingart , how long did it take you to grow him to that size, I read that about 12-14 inches is the max? Also wondered that if you keep them on a darker substrate the bichir itself will become darker than on a light sand colour - MFK statement - saw ur place on youtube, should come down and visit after a hockey match. Dels appear to be more stocky than other bichirs, does this vary between the genders? (stockiness looks good). Cool palmas/senegal Mystic, seems like a palmas to me of what Ive seen, arnt they quite rare in nz, also like your 'Panzer' catfish, what species is that, I haven't seen any in the LFS, love to get my hands on amonster cat. Yeah, Ive got a smaller tank for the del apart from the ornates, about the senegals, I can find albinos but the normals seem to have gone, used to have a albino but stayed at the surface and got chomped by my aro :evil: :roll: , albinos have supposedly got a slower growth rate. Another Q, how fast do fire eels grow? I want one after seeing MR EEL on youtube.

Are there any adults around? I am getting a baby one nxt week, do you reckon it would go well with a 15cm-20cm ornate, delhazi around 10-12cm approx

Hey guys, looked on sites about US catfish stock and stuff, and compared to us they rock, our variety sucks, just wondering if anyone knows if we can get catfishes larger than a syno that isnt a plec? i find that catfishes make interesting pets but i was just looking 4 something a bit more exotic

Can these guys live in just water or do i have to put in a log 4 them 2 climb onto out of the water, just i've seen them only in the water never on land? Convienient if they don't need land, wondering if someone keeps them in water only?
