  1. Nice Just the one ornate? What colour gravel?
  2. Nice del LA! looks the same body shape as mine but darker in colour, do you know if all delhezis get the lump b ehind their heads? My small one doesn't (10cm) but my large one (20cm) does? So would they be cheapish?
  3. So some people have palmas, but think they have senegals, just have to find them 8) :-?
  4. , the gravel was just an excuse to go right? Awesome, let us know what you decide to get, And other fish there too please...
  5. Jarapari's not for me, my dad really liked them so I was asking for him , what might you be picking up at roskill 2day 8)
  6. Yeah I haven't seen any in hollywood for a while, read they get to 20cm - look the best (body shape) out of the loaches, just wondering if anyone knew their growth rate or had large ones themselves.
  7. Oh and the fish can't be herbivores as I prefer the planted tank effect - bichirs like plants, albinos stand out HEAPS against the sword plants
  8. No sorry i only saw 2 and at that price I persuaded myself (wasnt hard  ) to get both, I have money left over from other fish sales that I am using to restock fish - is the dat really for $180 I might have to 'seriously' look at it, what about the juraparis I'm more interested in grabbing 2 or 3 of those, are they for sale? What good stuff does the HFF roskill have in atm, I'm looking for some more middle level fish that get largish, and are appealing, some cichlids such as the jags are good but some like dempseys and acaras arn't really me.
  9. Just wondering if anyone has these at a reasonable size, around 20cm that they hav pics of, and any experiences with them?
  10. Went to the bird barn pet store to investigate the stocks (inspired by Morcs) and walked away with AWESOME DEAL, 2 albino senegals each around 12-15cm for $50 :bounce: , stoked, lady said they had been reduced because they weren't selling, what the?? must have already been at a low price before that to be dropped to $25 each! One at hollywood albany costs around $85 :-? Now I have 8 bichirs - 4 ornates, 2 delhezis and 2 albinos = Happy guy! Luv the huge jurapari's they have there, would definitely take them off their hands and the large dat, whoop whoop very pleased right now, easy to see against the green plants in my tank - all these fish giving me a good reason to upgrade tank
  11. I looked at the import standards list and both the apollo sharks and mystus are still on :-? What others have been taken off that I dont know about.
  12. Nice , do you know if we can get New Guinea tigers in coz I reckon they look the best - American tigers weren't on the lists but they got in, wondering if we can do the same? Also do you know if anywhere has an apollo shark for sale or maybe mystus catfish I'd be keen for those too.
  13. may have to check them out, always like adding to my collection, strange that in the albany hollywood the albino costs $80+? Looking more for a normal senegal bichir rather than anything else right now already have 4 ornates and 2 dels - want to complete the set  What do you keep morcs apart from a del and a dat?
  14. Hopefully upgrade next year sometime so I can work towards another arowana (hopefully green would be nice), depending on whether i move to the basement and have a pad or not - I added you on facebook by the way, I found the group page and joined , cool putting faces to names. How available are polli's by the way, never seen one for retail, only a sale on that place which was $400
  15. Here are some photos of the bichirs, hope they come up, so much easier on MFK
  16. hehe, original - likewise any cool fish that need a home I am here 8) will put up pics this afternoon :bounce:
  17. Haha, nah I just sold my aro on trademe, only interested in an aro if its a jardini or asian - probly green due to the size of my pocket . Hmmm magnet cleaner...... tempting  thanks, they are settling in nicely, funny thing is that before my other 3 smaller ornates were always bickering now the 'tank' is here they have stopped-would have thought it might cause chaos but the new dude is chilled, the delhezi (cookie monster) is ok with everything but the dat is always checking him out  , if you find a nice sized senegal I may trade .
  18. No sorry, I sold the dat to a mate, del is staying with me tho also, haven't been able to find one for sale at this size so i might hold on to him for a while. Unless you have something else that may interest me (for del) that isn't: fie eel, nandus nandus, small del, small dat and can't be a vege, must be a carnivore coz I like my plants.
  19. Yeah! I got em! :bounce: Ornate looks massive next to my other 3, delhezi is a pale colour because it was kept over a white gravel but fins are not as elongate as the juvies in the shops - still looks sweet, I may post some photos later. there are now some other auctions for ornates and a borneo if your interested going for 200 tho, "um can I borrow a little cash""what for" "um fish?"
  20. Thanks heaps guys really helpful, I have scouted out the prices for a while and is pretty much the only thing stopping me from doing one, so I have come to the conclusion that bottled water will be cheaper for a nano but it would make sense buying an R.O unit for anything substantial - no use risking heaps of dosh on potentially poo tapwater, most likely would want to upgrade as I'm addicted  , at this stage a marine tank is a maybe anyways thanx for the info!!
  21. Never tested it, wondering does water ager matter like in freshwater? Does anyone in auckland use just tapwater - more specific, north shore?
  22. But buying a continual supply of pure water may prove less economical in the long run, and if we make a decision to upgrade then the R.O unit can remain rather than buying a lot of water from the LFS. yeah sorry about being vauge on the trace minerals and stuff I have read on it I was just not going into specifics  as it drew away from main my question , any personal experiences as to maintaining one in terms of water?
  23. Hey everybody, i only keep freshwater fish at the moment but my dad is interested in setting up a small nano reef with limited livestock (including a few softies and maybe a couple of fish), however I have been told that you must buy a reverse osmosis unit to supply the freshwater for the tank for top ups, but I have seen people selling their set ups minus a R.O unit, So my Q is: do you need to buy one or is a de-chlorinator etc ok? R.O units are around 300+ that I've seen so want to know if money can be spared. Cheers guys
  24. Yeah, their body shape/mouth reminds me of perch/datnoid/bass all in one + a little leaf fish want to try the earthworm idea, sometimes he doesn't want to eat the bloodworms, he'll look at them carefully before backing away :-? I want to grow 2-3 of these and put them in an Asian/African tank = Siamese tiger, 3 ornates, 1 delhezi, Senegalus maybe, fire eel, nandus and maybe an asian aro in future :bounce: Have all of these except the senegalus and the aro, hopefully these guys will chill together 8) one wee problem wif obtaining/setting up... $$$$$
  25. Whoop whoop! I got one! :bounce: and hopefully 2 more today, these ones already eat frozen food so much less costly to maintain and were only $30!! Loves chilling with the delhezi and fire eel - fire eel investigated him as soon as I put him in the tank smelling him with his nose, pleased that he past inspection  . They look so cool with their dorsal spines up, and I saw him yawn, being only 6-7cm I'd say his mouth was prolly 1cm diameter and 2cm long funnel! 8) He is a dark coloured one so I think I might get a more silver one now
