  1. Good grief! Has the Grinch stolen all the gifts in Whooville again?
  2. Awww, nice!! I love hand rearing hookbills. They go from such ugly ducklings to beautiful loving things in no time. So rewarding.
  3. Poor P44 needs a holiday...good thing one is coming up very soon! :bounce:
  4. This appears like it is cutaneous and occular larval migrans. It can progress to visceral larval migrans. It is caused by a simple intestinal parasitic nematode that migrates out of the intestinal tract at some stage during its life cycle. In many mammals, including humans, larval migrans is often self resolving with little or no permanent damage. The animal can be treated with a dewormer such as fenbendazole. There is some concern that if the worm dies when it is trapped in the skin or eye that it can cause systemic toxicity so there may be some benefit to waiting until the worms have migrated back to the intestines.
  5. Nice! P. taeniatus are awesome, especially in big groups. Would be great if you can manage to raise some. I might have to stop by and see yours.
  6. You and LA must have gone to the same school.............
  7. What are $17? The Kribs or the Darios?
  8. I seriously had one that was exactly like that. Too bad he died....
  9. Yes! That is what they are. Great link. Cheers! Must get rid of all my cardinals now so I can make room for them and plan my trip to Organism....
  10. You know you're addicted to fish when you spend hours every evening glued to the FNZAS fishroom....
  11. I came across a very tiny cichlid in a thread a while back but I can't remember the topic or the name of them. These fish are tiny, tetra sized, and I think they were slightly rosy in colour. I saw a pic of them in a planted nano tank and they looked great. Wondering what they are called and if they are available here?
  12. Who needs seating when you have a beautiful tank (or 10) to distract you from your aching feet as you stand?
  13. ROFL (my partner is seriously wondering why I am laughing hysterically at my computer...I seriously need that ROFL emoticon - and no, I am not so motivated as to find my own in the mean time  )
  14. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyberdyne_Systems hee hee hee hee
  15. hahhahahaaaaa (waiting eagerly for that ROFLMAO emoticon)
  16. LOL  I wasn't referring directly to you Mark, honest! 8) Although those 10 tanks are quite spectacular...even if there is no room to sit down.

    Hello

Welcome! I look forward to seeing your tanks, they sound awesome.
  18. I think rickettsia are usually pathogenic intracellular bacteria (unlike a lot of bacteria they cannot survive outside a host). Rickettsia are quite commonly transmitted by ticks (which is why a lot of ticks transmit disease caused by the rickettsia). I don't think the rickettsia typically have any benefit to the host - I think the relationship is mostly parasitic - which makes this case particularly unusual. I do wonder if there could be an underlying disease that the rickettsia would be causing - in fact, maybe the rickettsia is the organism that causes some of the disease symptoms...
  19. when your lounge looks like a fish room.
  20. Yes, they expect to flip the switch on 2025, or thereabouts. Although I predict there will be a rise of the machines...
  21. I was reading this in a journal today and thought I would share it in case some of you might be interested.
  22. Sounds like a great tank! Have you thought about adding some larger rainbows? I find they really made a difference to a community tank - so much character, active and beautifully coloured. If you don't want to go that route, maybe some Kribs, they are cute and should fit in well with the fish you have. Also, the cardinals are pretty but they don't have much character. A similar sized shoal of green fire tetras (or some other active shoaling tetras) will bring the tank alive.
