Hi You will need to add some peat to the tank to get the pH down and also increase the temp to 28 degrees C feed them well and if they pair up they will lay lots of eggs. I currently have 2 pairs in a tank by themselves.... now it is just waiting for them to actually raise their own fry.
  9. The way I get rid of Black Beard Algae is to take out all the carbon from the filter / s Double dose the tank as per instructions on the bottle of Florish excel and don't do a water change for at least a week. I notice that all the black beard turns white then disappears. Note: double dosing will kill your twisted val and riccia. but has no effects on discus, clown loaches, bristlenoses (common and golden) and guppies as well as kribensis. Happy dosing.
  10. Iam pretty sure they will all live together, provided your tank is big enough and you have enough filtration. Goldfish are pigs

    WCMM's

congrats Jude. I think it is the coolnes that makes them do their thing. It is very easy provided they are by themselves. Have fun

  13. I got my drift wood from Awakino (north of New Plymouth before the road cuts inland) nice selection of wood. wish I had a chain saw with me to get a few of the nicer pieces
  14. I would say, get the new filter going on your existing tank for at least a week then put it over to your new tank. use half the water from your existing tank and fill the rest with fresh water. no need to cyle Nice and simple Have fun

I wonder if it has anything to do with the photo of Mystic and Ballistic that I have stuck on the side of the tank? :-? Natural contraceptive perhaps?
  16. Fishsam.. what you intend to do will work quite nicely. Have fun another bonus is that you would more than likely increase the number of wcmm you originally started with.
  17. yeah.. as what Caryl said
  18. Hi Zev, Welcome to the forums. so what do you mean my Large-ish? 6ft? perhaps 10ft? how a bout a whole wall? Just curious
  19. Ok, now a few questions: 1, How big is your tank? W x D x H 2. what fish do you currently have? 3. Is your tank Planted? I currently use a HOB (Hang On Back) filter for my wcmm (White Cloud Mountain Minnows) and all i have in the filter is some wool and ceramic noodles in it. from time to time I give noodles a quick rinse then put it back. If flow is really bad due to filter wool then I would replace it. Have fun
  20. As I said, don't rinse ALL of it out... most of it to get the flow back.

    Convict cichlids

I'm supposedly a luck person who is unable to breed the suckers. :-? Got about 10 convicts and nothing is happening at all.
  22. I tried looking for it here in Auckland but couldn't find it in the supermarkets. I got mine from my local butcher who ordered it in for me.
  23. I would personally only rinse the noodles just to help with the flow, NOT clean them completely I only give the baskets a quick rinse and then give the sponges a good was out. the gunk contains the good bacteria
  24. Talk to the Butchers and get them to order one in for you. I got my local butcher to do that for me... paid $6 for one. but that was one big heart. lasting over 3months of food with daily feedings to 2 tanks
