  1. Wow thats tiny!!! Where'd you get it from?
  2. Well loads of cool pics anyway, and not just bichirs! TSN, lungfish, asian aro etc. http://imageevent.com/codomo/polypterus ... ricongicus Use the drop down menu to view the different fish.
  3. Anyone who's been through some sort of break in/crime/vandalism recently will know that statement is almost laughable. Well laughable if it wasn't so un-funny.
  4. Such senseless stupid crimes require the death penalty. Unfortunatly there's not a shortage of this kind of person, so why waste time/money on trying to rehabilitate them to have "decent" morals/standards that should have been taught to them by their parents. Sad thing is even if they do catch the bastards they'll get a slap on the hand and not much else.
  5. Mine has grown from ~2" to nearly 8" [incl tail] in a bit over two years. Fed beefheart, prawn, cichlid tucker etc.
  6. I've been getting mealworms from biosuppliers, but their crickets are just too expensive!!
  7. They're not the best photo's, some of theother ones he's posted look way better. You'll need a lot of platties when they get big!!!
  8. Check our Sinister J's post, over 100 dats!!! http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forum ... 141&page=6
  9. Maybe we could set up a network of beardie owners who can babysit/feed other peoples lizzards as we have had the same problem!
  10. How big are they?? I think they need to be around 10-12", and its something do do with the size of the anal fins. Have a look here.
  11. I want to get some small dats to grow out with the little ornates, the dats grow quite slowly so there shouldn't be any problems. GF isn't so keen on spending more money on fish right now...
  12. The big one is, the little ones would go down like noodles!!
  13. Anne occasionally browses this forum, I'm sure she'll be able to give you an idea. Is it yours??
  14. Just been told by beblonde on MFK its a male! Eel is around 18", bichir around 12", I'd try get some accurate measurements when I move them in a couple of weeks.
  15. Just thought I'd share a few pics of my 3 new ornates, and my big one. Bic pen for scale. Couldn't get all three sitting still in the same place for a good pic!! And with the eel trying to hide in the pipe And a short, but not particularly exciting,
  16. Maybe instead of replacing the plastic plants you should have got some plastic fish to go with them. Fish are animals, animals eat, animals poo. Its a fact of life and fish keeping. Consider yourself lucky, my fish do poos that are bigger than some of your fish!!
  17. It goes for more than just birds too, same could be said for reptiles, and all animals and plants. Even CITES, which may seem like a good idea at first, is hindering the breeding/cultivation of rare animals and plants. Policies are made by bureaucrats with no real experience, and no consultation with people in the industry, which is why they sometimes end up doing more harm than good.
  18. Perhaps if they had better laws about importing birds pbfd wouldn't have come in on smuggled birds. Same reason they legalized prostitution - its hard to regulate and control [and tax] something thats on the black market.
  19. What is the of the cup? 1" per gallon remember! According to that, my tank is well under-stocked. 80g, and only 48" of fish. However, that is only 5 fish, none of which are full grown....
  20. http://www.trademe.co.nz/Home-living/Pe ... 445059.htm Its a steal, don't miss out!!!
  21. I agree, MAF don't even know how to regulate their own rear ends. In the mid 90's they did a big revision of the rules regarding importing plants, and it now operates on a similar basis to fish (ie there is an 'allowed' list rather than a 'not allowed' list). There are SOOOO many plants being grown by enthusiasts around the country that aren't allowed to be imported because they supposedly don't exist in NZ, and therefor aren't on the list.

    sumps

There has been plenty of discussion on sumps recently. http://www.google.com/custom?domains=fn ... 1%3B&hl=en
  23. Thats the question I'm asking too, were they 'modified' here or did they get thru customs somehow? If it was me that had had 12 tanks chlorined and lots of other fish killed I'd be up in arms at the importer for importing them, and at MAF for letting them!!
  24. Repost. Already been posted in the "crack up trademe auctions" thread.
  25. I haven't got mine on a thermostat, just hooked it up to a dimmer so I can adjust it. I've got two in a 4' tank divided in half (only temporary until one sells) and another in a 3'x18x18". The 3' doesn't have a heat lamp, just an 80W spotlight and a 3' UV tube. The ambient heat from the ceramic heat lamp on the 4' is usually enough to keep them all warm over night, but recently I've been running a small oil-column heater on low as the temp in the 3' was starting to dip below 20C over night.
