  1. Where did you get the generator and how much was it??
  2. I think a lot of property managers would beg to differ. Better to be safe than sorry, as Barrie said, be straight with them from the start.
  3. Its not up to the employer to decide if their staff are exposed to it, its up to the staff who decide to work there! What ever happened to personal responsibility? No one is 'forced' to breathe in other peoples smoke, it all comes down to personal choice. Its funny how there is such a vocal bunch of anti-smoking people now, yet when someone tried to set up a smoke-free bar before they introduced the ban it ended up going under!
  4. Smoking. Although I can't stand the smell, IMO if the government aren't going to outlaw it then they have no right to tell people where and when they can smoke. It should be up to businesses to decide their own policies based on what their customers want. More control from the nanny state =
  5. He'd probably be better off asking his landlord than a bunch of fish-geeks. I always phone up the 'no pets' ones anyway and explain that we have an old house-trained cat and a fish tank [that makes no mess] and I usually get a response like "yeah thats fine, we just don't want people with 7 cats 3 dogs and 10 budgies" or "it says no pets but as long as its not a dog its alright".
  6. Did you see my for sale thread? You cold keep more dats!
  7. Does this mean I'm going to be banned??
  8. OI! You were supposed to hook me up with that fish ages ago!!!!! Is he still thinking about selling? I'll swap the big ornate in a heartbeat...
  9. Robin Williams on Golf *warning, language is a bit rough*
  10. You're possibly looking at a sump for a reef/sw tank, which would be a bit more complicated than a fw one. They're actually pretty simple, find someone with one set up on a fw tank and have a look at how it works. The initial set up is a bit more involved than a canister filter, but once set up they're a lot easier to clean.
  11. Seeing Bowie would be awesome, I don't care what tickets cost, if he comes back here I'm going!!!
  12. That would only be a concern with an open stand (as you guys have) and could be easily worked around. I've found my two smaller canister filters clog up and reducing flow, but I wasn't sure if the bigger ones do it. I will admit that my experience with canister filters is minimal, although from the experiences I have had I intend to keep it that way.
  13. Sure, but for the cost of one FX5 I could make a sump that would have the same volume of media as three of them. The flow won't decrease as the filter clogs up, and cleaning it is as simple as replacing a sheet of filter wool. Plus they're a lot easier to clean out, and have the advantage of getting the heaters out of the tank. SpiderWeb I disagree about the complexity. The plumbing is hardly complicated (one pipe from the tank to the sump, and another going back to it), and silencing them can be as easy as a correctly sized drain and a piece of sponge in the overflow along with an enclosed stand with doors. The cuts to the tank only adds about $10 to the cost if you're getting it made new. For a malawi tank which is likely to be heavily stocked, large quantities of food and good aeration needed a sump is an ideal solution IMO. I certainly wouldn't use anything else on a tank over 250L, and I detest cleaning the two canisters I have on smaller tanks. However, I do admit they're not for everyone, but IMO on a tank like this you'd be foolish not to go for one without a very good reason.
  14. Other than noise [which can be reduced to almost nothing with a good design] I can't really see any downsides. For an over-stocked fresh water tank [like africans] I can't see why you'd want to go for anything else.
  15. GAH I HATE YOU!!!!! I'm going to be singing one of their stupid songs all day now (not sure which one, they all sound the same anyway). They should be in my top-five. The venga bus is coming, da da da da da daaa daaa     *bang* [falls off chair with the gun still in hand]

  17. Pics? Size? Same as most south american cichlids, warm and slightly acidic to neutral water, some rocks and driftwood. They're not really fussy AFAIK.
  18. Can I ask why you don't want to go for the cheapest and most efficient filtration? :-?
  19. It could be, how big is the loach? I haven't seen any of my dats having a go at the loaches, so I would have though that if the loach is big enough to not look like food it would be alright. Maybe not...
  20. Brilliant idea. I hate auctions that start below the reserve, whats the point really, all it does is attract tyre-kickers who want to bid but not buy. If they removed the warning that lets you know you're within 15% of the reserve then there could be an advantage to starting it below the reserve, but not the way it is now.
  21. Too true. Croc shouldnt have been killed, just re-located to an area with less people.
  22. They're only hard to remember because people don't use them often enough!!
  23. Its just a case of getting used to it. In the 2.5 years I've been working in the horticulture industry my pronunciation has gone from rubbish to pretty good (I think!). Some people learn differently, I prefer to be told how to pronounce a word, where as my boss needs to see it written down so he can sound it out. A lot of it isn't as hard as it looks, take Uaru fernandezyepezi for instance. Named after Fernandez Yepez, any latin name that is a latin-ised name is simply pronounced as-usual for the name but with the "i" on the end. So its simply pronounced fer-nan-dez-ye-pez-eye. Anne/beblondie did a good bit on Latin pronounciation here, post #3, although she didn't mention that the 'ii' is often pronounced as a single "eye" instead of "ee-eye" in cases where the later makes the name akward to say.
