  1. Failing that you can actually buy sheets of it with two sides laminated from carters/placemakers AFAIK, could possibly get a scratched sheet for cheap.
  2. As Mark said, if its painted and sealed it shouldn't be a problem. Would be fine for beardies, blue tongues and leopards, but for water dragons or frogs I'd say go for H3 treated ply.
  3. Could probably use painted MDF because of the lack of moisture. Probably cheaper and comes in convenient 2440x600/400 panels, perfect for making 4' tanks.
  4. Watch out for that low filter intake with the sand, you know that silica sand is for sand blasting eh...
  5. I'm guessing the rocks would hold a reasonable amount of heat after being baked in the desert sun all day, you might find for at least part of the night the rocks are warmer than the air?
  6. Bingo, now I know what to get mum for xmas!!
  7. You can say that again, over the years their population has increased around my parents place and they're slowly driving the natives away...
  8. Thats probably your best bet, instead of keen people with little money here trying to back it, get someone with cash who would benefit financially from being able to export their stock here to do it...
  9. Breeding "competitions"? I'm well aware of all that, I just think its lame that people take it so seriously. I guess because very few of my fish are practical to take to shows, I'm not really interested in breeding and my idea of a small tank is around 200L that these things are pretty meaningless to me.
  10. Yeah its probably not cricket, but TBH I don't really care as I have absolutely no interest in this side of the hobby, this exact scenario being one of the reasons why....
  11. Since when was fish keeping a competitive sport anyway...
  12. Alan it sounds like you need to get a dog to go with the birds....
  13. Nice looking fish! How big do they get? Would make a nice addition to my loach tank....

    Tank too hot!

So why unplug it? I thought thats why they had thermostats. What is the air temperature in the room??
  15. Cheap pumps have them too, a quality pump will actually still pump what the manufacturer claims in 6 months time...
  16. Was that a typo? I think even 5000L/h would be inadequate by the time you take the reduced flow from the 1.5m head. Depending on how heavily stocked the tank is you'd want 5-10 times turnover per hour IMO. As for the brand, you get what you pay for, spending a but more now might save you a lot in the long run. I'll be buying Ehiem pumps from now on...
  17. Absolutely zero. MAF aren't interested in importing reptiles, you'll need to put up the cash and do the work yourself. How about you just try breeding some normal leopards and get them established here, the more people there are breeding them the more chance of some interesting morphs appearing there is. That is if you actually get them...
  18. http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forum ... p?t=285438 $120US each plus a discount for 5 or more. Someone get ordering...
  19. Can any of you who are suggesting it is "juripari" explain the differences between S. juripari and S. leucosticta [with out googling it]? Let alone actually tell those differences from one lousy photo of a fish in terrible condition??? It is a Satanoperca sp, and it should be euthanised because of the terrible HITH....
  20. I agree with Ryan that having incentives to breed things that haven't been bred before (or only in limited numbers) is a good idea. My ideal would be more of a breeding register than the current rewards program style, where breeders [not just people doing a one-off for the fun of it] register themselves as breeders of X Y Z species, and if there are any changes to that the society is informed. Other breeders could have first dibs on the fry of a rare species and more populations could become established, ensuring the future supply of the species.
  21. If only the authorities were smart enough to allow generic dispensations in cases where the entire genus poses no threat...
  22. I know its not the root of all evil, but if you take the person you mention in the second half of that paragraph, whats going to happen if/when he finds out about the society and the breeding scheme? The bad practice he's picked up by accident will be encouraged. *rant edited* I would have thought a "breeding scheme" run by an organisation like FNZAS should aim to preserve the cream of the crop, rather than encouraging mass production of mediocrity? When I started keeping fish zebra pecos were readily available in the shops (despite not being on the list) as were Altolamprologous, and I'm sure there are other examples, I would have thought preserving these rarities would be far more important to the society (and its members) rather than having another successful spawn of kribensis....
