  1. I guess I will just have to wait and see I don't have much spare time at the mo to give special care raising fry. Thanks for your advice
  2. Thanks for your advice both. If I just let them get on with it and don't strip would there be any survivers. What sort of care does the mother give after release, any at all? Thanks
  3. Hi, My Tropheus have been showing signs of breeding for a while now, earlier this week I notice that one seemed to be holding- bucal cavity enlarged etc. this carried on for a couple of days then she was back to normal. I am presuming this is the first spawning could there be any other reason for this? There arn't any fry around that I can see. What do tropheus do once they release do they continue to protect the fry or just leave them?
  4. Just reloaded larger pics to photobucket the fry are clearer now.
  5. That was disapointing the pics were far better on my PC seem to have lost somthing uploading to photobucket.
  6. I finaly managed to get some pics or the transcriptus fry. The first is of the babies original pair since then I have another breeding at the other end of the tank. The Julie in this photo is about 45mm the fry are from 3 t0 10mm The Julie in this photo is about 35mm the fry are from 3 t0 12mm
  7. I've counted 6 so far ranging from 3 to 10 mm but I think there are more .
  8. I tried but they are in an 8mm crevice at the back of the tank and only dart out to get food. They are a little more adventurous now as soon as I can get a decent on I will post it
  9. I just used a 2 part resin from Mitre 10 it was left for weeks to dry as I made the background before I got the tank. No I didn't wash it off just set the tank up then ran a few days with a few large water changes checking it had no effect on the ph etc before adding fish.
  10. Just spotted at least 4 fry 3 to 4mm long inbetween some decore  . Two transcritus are hanging around so I presume these are the parents. I will try to get some pics and post them.
  11. The back ground is made of poly covered in sand and coloured cement then painted with resin it's different shades of grey when not covered in algee. There are tropheus, leleupi, transcriptus and bn's in there. There is also a cory sterbai and a herlequin which I used to help mature the tank before I put the rest in, I presumed they would not last but are both still going strong, look a little out of place but are ignored by the africans.
  12. And another sorry pics not so good I'm not the best photographer.
  13. Here's a pic of my tropheus tank. I used flat pebbles from the local rivers.
  14. I have 19 T-Dubs just starting to mature now all 5 to 7cm

    New Tank Setup

Thanks all, Yes I made the background poly covered in render and painted with resin, The auto change is run off a garden watering timer connected to a 10" water filter which removes chlorine etc and goes directly into the tank through a rena smart heater to take the chill off it. The sump has an overflow so when the extra water is put in the tank it just runs out of the overflow in the sump. I am still tweaking it but trying to set it for about 10% a day.

    New Tank Setup

I've been working on this project for a couple of months now. Finally picked up the Tropheus Duboisi from Lynn last week. Heres a video of the setup Its an 1800mm long 600 high and 500 deep tank. Stocked with 20 T Duboisi, 3 Leleupi, 2 Transcriptus, 2 BN's. There are also a couple of my daughters fish that need to be removed soon which I used to help kickstart the filtration. I still have to finish the cabinet but it's just fitting the doors. The setup has an auto water change system so maitenance is just gravel vaccuming a couple of times a week. Vids not great and someone was cleaning in the backgroung so I would turn the sound off. I will post some pics later.
  17. Hi Stella, If it was the end or the week it would have been OK as we are moving on the 25th, the new place has a spare room, we are currently a little pressed for space 3 kids and a small house. Sorry
  18. Hi Stella, What dates are you coming up for we may be able to help.
  19. I decided to go the epoxy route just to be sure. Heres a pic some of it has been coated and some not hence the differant shades. Havn't set the tank up yet it's being delivered on 5th november.
  20. Hi, I dont know much about Julies saw this on TM is it a Transcriptus as stated Thanks
  21. I think it realy depends on how often you do the 10% changes I am planning on setting up an auto water change system doing approx 10% a day on a timer and filtering through a carbon block removing chemicals. I thought this would be quite effective along with a couple of gravel vacs a week.
  22. Yes it does .... Extract from the book "This slender mbuna somtimes known as the 'Likoma island Elongatus' has largely displaced the true PS Elongatus commercially." It is apparently much mellower than the PS elongatus. Juveniles are a golden beige colour and females eventualy become a duller version of the male in the picture.
  23. Pic from the book is here http://i315.photobucket.com/albums/ll47 ... inutus.jpg
