  1. I'll start. Bearded Dragon : 1. Water Dragon : Blue Tongue Skink : Any Turtle : Leopard Gecko : Other :
  2. Hey, just trying to find out what sort of quantities of different animals some people keep. I'm thinking of creating some products to cater for different breeds and just want to see what numbers are out there. So if you could just tell me how many of what kind of reptile you have, you would be a massive help. Lets add frogs to that list too, i have a few ideas that might interest frog keepers also. Copy and paste the below text if you like, Bearded Dragon : Water Dragon : Blue Tongue Skink : Any Turtle : Leopard Gecko : Frogs : Other : Thanks Tyson Genc
  3. I think your asking for trouble by trying to mix species. The guy selling them on trademe is awesome. You might be paying $500 for the dragon but the amount of help and knowledge you get from him is awesome. I bought my dragon from him in February and she is gorgeous. She has a base colour of yellow, with red legs, a red tail, red spikes, and she has blue stripes down her back. PM me for pics if you like, also if you have an enclosure and need help, or if you need an enclosure pm, cos i might be able to help you there.
  4. Take your dragon to the vet and get an x-ray. If you are in Auckland i recommend Lynfield Vet Clinic.
  5. They used Avondale spiders (aka Huntsman's) in the movie. And yes they were introduced from Australia.
  6. cheers for clearing that up:) hope you find a good home for them
  7. 5-6 cms is really really tiny, have they just hatched yesterday? Only breeders or really experienced people should buy Dragons that young. And i hope you as a seller will make that clear to any prospective buyers. Why you selling?
  8. Madagascan Day Gecko's by any chance?
  9. Lizards stolen from Hamilton Zoo 21/10/2008 15:00:02 Four valuable lizards have been stolen in a smash and grab at Hamilton Zoo. Thieves smashed a glass panel and cut through chains and padlocked doors on Friday night to get inside the reptile enclosure. Zoo director Stephen Standley says they snatched a pair of Madagascan Day Geckos and a pair of Bearded Dragons. He says while they are not endangered, the Madagascan Day Geckos can only be held in zoos in New Zealand. Mr Standley suspects they have been nicked to be sold on the black market, where he says they can fetch up to a couple of thousand dollars each. Taken from NewztalkZB website. Stupid thing to do really. Why would you waste your time stealing beardies? Might see some Day Gecko babies on trademe soon though eh?
  10. If I were you, I'd stop right there. The last thing the iggy situation needs is to be publicized again. Good to know though, thanks.
  11. Yea i'd say so, i don't really believe in keeping 2 together, i've heard too many horror stories. But if you have to, id make it as long as you can and have a equal basking spot at each end, and the cool part in the middle, that should kerb any dominace issues, also have 2 hiding places so they can get away from each other. That way they hopefully won't fight for the dominant perch. Arm waving and black bearding might look cool, but it's not behaviour you want to aim for. How old are your dragons? and what sex? Tabz
  12. Previous enclosure: 1800 x 600 x 500 Current enclosure: (looks different inside now tho) 1500 x 600 x 600 Length is more important than height. If you make it too high you will have problems with your dragons getting enough UV. You can get mega-rays but they are hard to source in NZ. To get the most out of your UV lamp your dragon needs to be able to get within 6 inches of it, without being able to touch it obviously. I did some research a while back, and having a dragon under UV lamp for a week, is the equivalent of having it in the sun for an hour (approximately). Not a lot when you think about it. 1200 x 600 x 600 is recommended as the minimum for 1 adult dragon. bigger is better.
  13. To my knowledge it is generally not a good idea to breed until after a year old, the male matures faster than the female, and can cause a lot of stress to her. I've heard that a lot of female dragons have been lost like that. Not trying to scare you, just making you aware. I'd separate her, so that they cannot mate again. I suggest that you look in the forums at http://www.beardeddragon.org at the breeding section and get as much info as you can. And pinkies...Not a good idea til your dragon is fully grown (around 2-3 years old). Also they are really high in fat so should only be fed as a treat. Hope that helps. Tabz
  14. I mentioned before that all dragons carry parasites, it only becomes a problem when your animal becomes stressed etc, and they reach a dangerous level. I understand this completely, and it's not about keeping them in a bubble, its about being a responsible keeper and providing the best that you can to the best of your knowledge. I don't buy cultured locusts, I buy crickets from one person, I have seen his breeding set up, and i know that he does his utmost to breed them to the best of his ability. You are never going to be 100% but you can try.
  15. I'm sorry, but your dragon is hardly going to learn a lesson from getting really sick, it was said in a previous post, a dragon will eat what ever it can catch. It doesn't stop to assess whether it's a good idea to eat it or not. If you give it something with parasites to eat, and it gets infected, its your fault. The dragon will eat the same thing next time if fed. I like how that when someone gives their opinion, they get smacked down for it. Really makes me wanna hang around. Peace
  16. no, not a drama queen, i'd just rather know exactly whats going into my dragon. Cockroaches are hardier than you think, if they had just crawled through a bit of poison, i doubt they would die straight away. I'll agree with the 'catch today feed tomorrow' rule, if you really insist on feeding stuff out of the garden. Oh, and in the wild, dragons have a life span half as long as in captivity, also they harbour a lot of parasites, in higher numbers than what ours do in captivity (all dragons have parasites in small numbers), and they also have a an immune system built up from birth to deal with them, unlike ours in captivity. You gotta let go of the 'in the wild' thing, your dragon is not in the wild, so give it the best you can. peace
  17. I would definately, definately, definately NOT feed them to your dragons. You don't know where they have been, they could have crawled through old cockroach poison, eaten rat bait, eaten all kinds of horrible stuff harbouring parasites, which will end up in your dragon. In general feeding your dragons stuff out of the garden is a pretty bad idea in my opinion, it may be cheaper, but you don't really know what you're getting. I'd isolate dragons and locusts, and get the exterminators.
  18. The breeder who I got my dragon from wont sell his until they're 6-8 weeks old, depending on size. That sounds right to me too, at that age you have a good idea that the baby you are selling is healthy.
  19. coffee cup has never seen coffee. came with hash browns in it actually.
  20. He's in the bottom of a coffee cup from BP, if that gives you an idea of size. id say 10cm from nose to tail i think. Some kind of skink, the common variety i think.
  21. Saw this guy on my parcel shelf about 2 weeks ago, tried to catch him but he was too fast. Went to the shopping mall last week and he was on the passenger seat when i got back in the car. With a little help from my girlfriend we managed to catch him. Let him go in the garden.
  22. yes, the inside of their noses do shed, you should just be able to pull the tube out of their nose if it bothers you, however it should just work its way out by itself. Dont worry about it
  23. That is so cool. No sympathy for the dude that got eaten, obviously shouldnt have been where he was when he got tagged. Sad (other word edited) that they killed the croc though, i hate that mentality. Doesn't solve anything, the guy is dead either way. that last photo is pretty cool, that lump of meat in the bottom right looks like it was a head once, i think you can sees the guys teeth.
