  1. When using the Compact bulbs do you need to use an incandescent bulb or white light with them as well?
  2. I read not long ago on an Aussie website that some of the Beardie owners are having problems with the Compact Flourescent UVB bulbs. They are causing some major eye problems, and there was a specific brand (which I can't remember what) of CF which looked like it was the culprit. One of their vets were trying to figure out what was going on and apparently was in contact with a NZ vet who was also having clients coming in with their Beardies with the same type of problem? I can't find the website I was on but I'll keep looking if you want more info.
  3. I've just changed their water tank to a larger one and I think it does around 45-50 ltrs. 3 dragons at the moment but soon will be 4. I don't have a pic at the moment as we are in the process of cutting it in half to get it through the door as we have just moved house and we can't get it in, in one piece. Hopefully by tonight it will be inside and done.
  4. ok I might have to change as I've just got an old one which does the job but not that great any recommendations on what type?
  5. Thanks for that, sorry to be dum but I have no idea about fish so what are platy's and are these warm water type fish?
  6. I'm wanting to put fish into my wd's water part, can someone tell me what fish will be ok? I'm not too worried if they have some which they can eat, the water tank is approx 800lx400w250h. Cheers
  7. Hi all I have three, 15month old waterdragons and am wanting to get a forth what would be the smallest size I could go to without the others thinking it was food? My ones range from around 48-55cms long nose to tail. Cheers
  8. I know someone who uses Ivomec for quite a few of her reptiles and she's never had a problem with it but after I read up on the internet about it for water dragons I decided I didn't want to risk something going wrong. I called a vet and he gave me Panacur which is considered to be safe and a widely used drug apparently.
  9. It looks great!! That's my next mission I've finished my indoor enclosure now to start on the out door one.
  10. I've just finished making a new water dragon enclosure and I've added a moonlight bulb. I tried it for the first time last night and 2 of my dragons wouldn't go to sleep with the "moon" on. The new wd I bought recently (which has been in an outside enclosure) was asleep pretty quickly. At 10.30pm I turned off the "moon" and literally within 10 seconds my other 2 wd's eyes were closed. What would be the best way for them to get use to the moonlight or is it better to have it on for some of the evening then turn it off before I go to bed or earlier?
  11. I bought another water dragon in the weekend and the guy I got him off has I think 2 or maybe 3 adult Beardies for sale, or he could be interested in a swap?? I'm pretty sure they were all female. I don't know anything about Beardies but the one I saw up close was friendly and tame and looked really healthy. If you want his number just flick me a pm.
  12. Wow they are really cool, I've never see them that little before.
  13. Wow reptilenutt she really is red!! I have heard that you can dna by taking a small piece of their tail and getting that tested but not sure how true it is.
  14. Thanks for that  what would be the best product to use for sealing?
  15. Hi all I'm in the process of making a water dragon enclosure, and I just need to do the back of the enclosure, I've got loads of treated ply and wondered if I could use that, but coat it with something to stop it from being so toxic?
  16. Does anyone have ideas on sexing water dragons? I know you can do it by the coulour of the chest size of head etc, but I have heard of females like this as well and uncoloured males also.
  17. I've been in there quite a few times she seems really nice and quite clued up, lots of reptiles in her shop for sale, deffinately worth a look.
  18. I rang quite a few different vets today and most of them weren't quite sure whether to worm or not, some said no because there is no need but I did talk to one vet who said yes there is no harm in worming!! They have an "over the counter" worming paste for reptiles. The vet said generally reptiles won't get worms but it is possible, for WD's they are more likely to if they are in a high stressed environment and bad husbandry their immune system can become low because of it and then pick them up. I had contradicting info on the insect thing though one vet said that insects won't carry parasites where as this one said yes it is possible for insects to carry the eggs that the parasites lay. The only risk for the worming paste which he knew of for reptiles is they could have an allergic reaction.
  19. :bounce::bounce: Great stuff they are very cute
  20. No I could find out tomorrow though. Yeah they were both quite firm about not worming that the parasites were a good thing which surprised me. Neither of the vets were actual reptile vets sooo maybe a vet which has more knowledge in that area has a different view and knows alot more :-?.
  21. I talked to 2 vets and they both said not to worm water dragons as they have parasites which they need and worming them will kill that. One of the vets I spoke to has a water dragon and has never wormed him the wd is regularly (ever day basically) fed "wild" bugs. :-? :-? Do other types of dragons get wormed, there seem to be alot of beardie owners here what do you guys do???
  22. Will do thanks for that, I don't think mine have worms but just wondered if there was a need to worm reptiles since most other animals are wormed regularly
  23. Hi all since parasites can be a problem with reptiles is there a way of worming them? I did talk to someone who has many years experience with dragons, and she uses ivomec to worm them, just 1 drop orally then again in 10 days time. I looked up on the net and it seems as though ivomec is quite risky. Has anyone wormed their dragons and with what or know much about the ivomec?
